Lunch @ CBTL  Cry Apr 04, 2013
Categories : American

I expected more for the main courses at CBTL. They were really very disappointing huffy

I ordered chicken and mushroom fettuccine and the fettuccine came undercooked. They were still hard that they can't even be chewed. I informed the staff but yet they still served another plate of undercooked fettuccine. My mum was so disappointed that she stopped eating after a few mouthfuls.

The ultimate breakfast was okay albeit I didn't really like the scrambled eggs. They wasn't the fluffy scrambled eggs I had in mind. The patty and bacon was steamed and hence weren't too greasy which were light on my palette. A more healthy option.

Overall, I wouldn't want to order the main courses ever again to avoid huge disappointments.

Swensen's ice-cream buffet  Cry Mar 05, 2013

This is my first time ordering pizza at Swensen's and I think that the pizza was quite delicious. The crust was thin and crisp which was the kind of pizza I prefer. But the pizza was very oily on top. I guess it was the cheese that resulted in the amount of oiliness. Perhaps the pizza wasn't made freshly and was heated up instead because the amount of oil is really too much.

I had ice-cream buffet after my main and I was very disappointed with the ice-cream buffet. I guess this will be the last time having ice-cream buffet because the food of the ice-cream buffet was very disappointing. The rainbow bread was hard and stale, the cakes were passable and some of the flavours of the ice-cream were stored for so long in the freezer that ice crystals were formed on top of ice-cream. Despite having a huge variety of flavours the taste of each flavour was too subtle and wasn't too intense enough.

Decided to end my Friday by having a good dinner with my friend at Jcube.
We walked around aimlessly and can't make up our mind. But in the end we decided to give Capricciosa a try since neither of us have eaten the food there.
After visiting the restaurant, I only have 1 word to describe how I felt, which is DISAPPOINTMENT.
I was even a little angry because considering the price I paid I think I should deserve better food. huffy
The last time I had fettuccine was quite some time ago and I wanted to eat it again for quite sometime, naturally I chose Fettuccine with eggplant and streaky beef in tomato base. The fettuccine was under cooked and chewy. It didn't has the expected smooth mouth-feel when I slurped it. sad
The streaky beef didn't tasted like beef at all, when I looked at it, I thought it was bacon and again it was chewy too. Chewy to the extent that I had to spit out because I couldn't break down the meat.
I was satisfied with the eggplant though. Under cooked eggplant can be really disgusting and difficult to swallow.
I am not going to return back to Capricciosa even though I like the service there. The staffs were quite friendly.

Eggplant and streak beef fettuccine - $15.90

The bill came up to $18.80 per pax after splitting the bill with my friend.

Being a huge green tea fan, I was tempted to try out one of the new cakes that Starbucks has introduced recently - Red Bean Green Tea Cheesecake. The contradicting point here is that I dislike cheesecake.

But for green tea, I'm willing to give in everything. I plucked out my courage and ordered the slightly pricey Red Bean Green Tea Cheesecake at $6.50. I was anticipating burst of strong green tea flavour, but when I took my first bite I was very disappointed. sad There isn't any green tea flavour at all. All I could taste was the sweet flavour which came from the red beans. The cheesecake isn't really cheesecake after all. Between the layers of supposedly cheese cakes, lies a layer of sponge cake. This may be the only point which benefits me since I dislike cheesecake. But then again, why is it called cheesecake when it doesn't taste like cheesecake? shocked

The cakes may appear delicious, but they are after all appearances.

BROWNIE.  Cry Jun 27, 2012
Categories : American

I was craving for brownies and the first place that came to my mind was The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Although I didn't have a very good impression of the cakes and drinks in coffee bean but I thought I should give it a try in case the cake will blow my mind away. I will never know unless I try.

I went to coffee bean after school to grab my brownie and of course do some work. With the exams around the corner, coffee bean was slightly crowded with JC students and was a little noisy, something I didn't expect until I saw the crowd shocked

Honestly, the cakes in the cake bar all looked very deliciously and tempting. I was a little shaken and contemplated if I should try other cakes. But I stuck to my plan and decided to satisfy my craving and ordered Boston Nut Brownie at $5.50

The first mouthful of the Brownie was awesome because of the layer of chocolate ganache atop the brownie. However, as I continued, the level of disappointment began to increase. My ideal brownie should be dense and has a thick cocoa flavour. But the brownie from coffee bean was like a normal chocolate cake with a layer of ganache. I began to suspect I was eating a chocolate cake instead of brownie.
DISAPPOINTMENT sad

Lesson learnt: Looks can be deceiving sad
