Yong Tau Fu Smile Jan 25, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Food Court

I frequently patronise this stall when I'm dining in this fooodcourt.
I feel the quality of the yong tau fu is higher than most other stalls.

Firstly and most importantly, this stall has a wide variety of items to choose from. From deep fried stuff to the normal fishcakes that you put into soup. bowl

Furthermore, they fry the fried food again before serving it to you. For example, I like their fried hard-boiled egg which has a crisp layer on it.

I enjoy my noodles both dry and soup. Their soup is really tasty! smile They give a lot of noodles which makes me always extremely full after finishing this meal, although I usually order only 5 items. You can ask for less!

Although the queue might be long at times, you need not wait that long because the stall helpers are very efficient.

A very full and delicious lunch meal! smile

Satisfying plate of chicken rice Smile Jan 24, 2011

Categories : Hainanese | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

It was lunchtime, felt like eating chicken rice. So my friend and I decided to try out this stall which has a HAO CHI sign.

There was no queue when we ordered and the service was quite swift.
I ordered the roast chicken rice while she ordered lemon chicken rice.

The portion of chicken and rice was reasonable for the price of $2.50.
The rice was fragrant but a little mushy. The roast chicken was a little dry so i added black sauce over it and it was much better.
They served a bowl of cabbage and radish soup which was very tasty. It saved me from the spicy chilli sauce!

Delicious bowl of Ban Mian Smile Jan 22, 2011

Categories : Fujian/Heng Hwa | Food Court | Noodles

This is my all time favourite ban mian stall. smile
Firstly, the noodle is soft and well-cooked. And the soup is clear, unlike some other stalls where the minced meat causes the soup to be quite messy. Most importantly, the soup is very tasty.

They cook the noodles right in front of you so you can ask for more vegetables or less meat! If you do not want your soup to be too oily, ask for less ikan bilis and shallots.

For a takeaway, you can ask to separate your noodles and soup so that the noodles will not turn soggy later on.

It's reasonably priced at $4 for a meal in air-conditioned comfort. 10% discount if you use a BANQUET discount card.

Its slurping goood! (: chopstick

New Year's Day Dinner OK Jan 25, 2011

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Seafood | Zi Char

My grandfather decided to have a change of restaurant for new year's day dinner this year. It was great since we had been patronising the other restaurant for about four consecutive years. I was excited to try out the new food at this restaurant!

Since there were about 20 of us, we were offered to sit in the private room where there were 2 tables. It was very exclusive. smile

We were served dishes from the Chinese New Year menu, which included the cold dish, sharks fin, black garoupa, coffee pork ribs smile, sea cucumber, work fried beehoon and dessert.

The individual serving of cold dish was quite a small portion and the sharks fin soup was normal, not really fantastic.

I really enjoyed the coffee and fruit sauce pork ribs. It was one of the unique dishes which was not served in the other restaurant before. The coffee flavour was very strong that I could not really taste the pork (thankfully, since i dont really like the taste of pork!).

The steamed garoupa was flavourful however, the meat was a bit tough.

Dessert was pumpkin and coconut cream which I felt was a weird combination but it was quite refreshing and tasted like honeydew sago.

Overall, the food was pleasant but normal and I was not really full by the end of the eight course dinner. So, I guess the servings there are quite small.
