Complacency Cry Jan 23, 2013
Categories : Seafood

While the place still bears the nice old restaurant feeling by the seaside, the food quality has definitely drop way off the mark. The usual crispy pork knuckle is not crispy and smells hint of bad quality pork. The soy sauce steam fish is decent while the steam egg crab was too bland to my killing and it was only served after all other dishes was finished. Its probably my last visit there. i would go to the Yishun outlet from now onwards. BottleTree, please do not disappoint me again...please.

Long Queue can be deceiving Cry Jan 18, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Chinese Soup

The reason why there are long queues is there is only one person cooking and only 2 bowls at a time, nothing compared to the Ban Mian style where they can manage 4 to 5 bowls at a time. Food wise, i feel its pretty normal and no significant difference to any other stall. Maybe i had too much expectation from this stall after seeing the long queue always. Return to Eat: Nope

Noodle Expert - Just Noodles Cry Dec 05, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Shanghainese | Noodles

Visited this joint for the 1st time using Groupon $15 for $30 worth voucher. This place is more of a cafe style than restaurant at the basement two, so you are not bounded by 3 or 4 walls but surrounded by fellow diners including those from adjacent food stalls like sakae tepanyaki and ji de chi desserts. The semi open concept kitchen does provide viewing pleasure of the chef "pulling" out long strand (their signature dish of single strand noodle) of noodle into the hot water to be cooked.

Our order included chicken soup ($8.50), dandan noodle ($8.50), Spinach Ginger ($3.50) and Tomato & Egg Noodle ($7.80). Both our noodles were the dried version, i would rate the noodles 7.5/10, the noodles tasted home-made, not like those factory made standard noodles. Ingredients wise was a bit little though. The plain soup that accompany the noodels were a let down, being very bland and tasted like the water that was used to scald the noodles. I also wouldn't rate it highly for the chicken soup and spinach. Both were below average especially the spinach which taste cold and bland. Those that prefer local style of vege with oyster sauce better not order this.

Customer service wise is pretty ok except that they forgot my order of beef slices.

Korean - can't feel it Cry Nov 22, 2012
Categories : Korean | Food Court | BBQ

Came by for lunch, this food court was super crowded so my choice of food is decided by the proximity to the seat my friend found and the stall with the shortest queue. I ordered hotplate sotong ($6), hotplate beef ($6) and also a seafood toufu soup ($5). Presentation wise is pretty typical, with anchovies and kimchi as a mini side dish and seaweed soup bowl each. I'm quite disappointed with the taste, its bland and doesn't leave me wanting for more. The sotong has no spice factor to it, the toufu soup had no hint of korean flavors as well. Now i know why there is a shorter queue than the other stalls. Service is fast though perhaps that's how the quality was compromised. Pricewise its ok though.

Expensive Plain Nasi Lemak Cry Oct 25, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indian | Coffeeshop

Was out hunting for late night supper after my friend dropped by. We settled for Alif since its the usual prata fix place around this neighborhood. Not the most pleasant experience because of the price of the Nasi Lemak i was charged. One chicken wing and one egg and it cost $3. The menu had a picture of the nasi lemak chicken set priced at $3.50 and showed ikan bilis, egg, chicken wing and ikan kuning. When i question the server, he say that standard nasi lemak doesn't have ikan bilis and that my set of chicken wing and egg was discounted to $3 because there was no kuning fish available. When i further inquire about the set prices and the photo, they were not sure themselves. i gave up in the end. They did try to offer me back ikan bilis but i couldn't be bothered anymore. But speaking fairly the coconut rice is fragrant and nice but the chicken wing is very average. Chilli is acceptable.
