Sister brought back a box of beancurd tart from Le Cafe Confectionary & Pastry few weeks back. The shop has a long history and is one of Singapore's oldest cake and pastry shop. They have over 50 years of history with a reputation for their quality product.

Laksa Choices OK Dec 13, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Fusion | Restaurant | Noodles | Kids-Friendly

My friend and I were walking around NEX Serangoon mall deciding what to have for dinner until we walked pass Laksania located at basement B1.The restaurant was full house at that moment and we smelled the laksa fragrance that attracts us to give it a try.

We were assigned to our seating place with menu and order form by the staff. After flipping through the menu, we made our decision. My friend went to the counter to place the order and make payment.

I goggled a bit of the history of the restaurant. Laksania is a stop where customers can expect to see different versions of Laksa originating from various parts of Malaysia, and of course not forgetting the local version of laksa.

Modern interpretations of laksa include the Laksa Lasagna, which I reckon will be a huge hit amongst youths. It is composed of taupok, pasta sheets, chicken, mushroom and cheese.

Each of us had our choice. My friend ordered Laksa Goreng S$7.50 which has the strong laksa aroma when it was served.

Lasagna S$8.50 was my choice as I find it quite interesting combination of laksa and lasagne. The ingredients composed of taupok, pasta sheets, chicken slices, mushroom and cheese. The combination gave me a ‘Wow’ expression when I first tried. The master behind this creation did a great job of mixing the fusion cuisine together.

Thanks to Ladyironchef for inviting me as one of the lucky ones to join his Christmas Party with Pizzahut. The dinner starts at 7pm til 9pm at Pizzahut, City Square Mall. There are bonding session going on while waiting for the foods to be served that night.
Here are the ‘Pizzahut Xmas Menu’ that were served that night:-
Menu

Menu

Sparkles Drink (Emerald/ Berri / Summer)- I chose Emerald Sparkles Drink which is a mixture of soda drink.

Christmas Platter comes with spicy BBQ drumlets, baked cheesy potatoes and crispy tempuras. The spicy BBQ drumlets truly tasted spicy so beware when you take the first bite.

Criss Cross Fries which tasted cripsy and crunchy while it is still serving hot.

Double Sensation Pizza which is the highlight of the night. It comes with 2 layers of savory toppings. Pizza comes with 4 types of cheese, turkey pepperoni, adam cheese and turkey ham to name few of it.And you will never expect it comes with mango sauce to provide sweet punch of the overall taste. I only knew about this sauce during the Quiz session throughout the event.

Truffle Mushroom Baked Pasta which was served pipping hot and cheesy creamy sauce. There are slices of button mushrooms and turkey bacon dipped into the creamy sauce.

Roasted Chicken Leg which looks appetizing from it’s presentation. The chicken texture was smooth and tender with the glossy golden brown roasted skin.

Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownies which marks the end of the dinner session. Everyone was served a cup of it and I enjoyed the sinful treat!

Dessert After Dinner OK Dec 01, 2013
Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Brunch

My friend recommended Marmalade for dessert after dinner when we met up so coincidentally at Ion Orchard. So my sisters and friends headed to the bistro cafe located at level 3 of the shopping mall. The cafe is an open dinning concept in the midst of luxuries retail shops in the mall. Black & White colour theme makes the overall place looks classy. The open concept of dinning allows customers to have an overall 360 deg view of the surroundings.

We ordered Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge Cake @S$7.00 per slice. The slice portion was generous. The fudge is very thick and rich to savour. The sweetness wasn't overloaded and just nice and I think chocolate lover will love it. However, it is slightly dry though. We paired it with the choice of tea to smoothen our throats after a few bites.

The Marmalade Carrot Cake @S$7.00 per slice comes in a generous portion too.Texture of the cake is moist and not too dry compared to the chocolate fudge cake. The carrot cake tasted was delicious as it suits the tastebuds on everyone of us.

As for the drinks, we ordered different selection of Gryphon Teas from the range of S$6.50 to S$7.00 per pax. The teas are re-fillable. So, we managed to try on White Tea- Peony Jade, Green Tea-Sakura to name a few. All comes with unique taste and we pretty enjoyed exploring the tea to pair with the cakes.

Service wise wasn't too friendly though. The service staff was not friendly and did not put on a smile. We have difficulties getting their attention when we are requesting for services. Total bill inclusive of service charges and GST charges.

Zi Char Dinner OK Nov 29, 2013
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

Our team was at Keong Siak Road for a training session and it ended just nice around 6.30pm.So, it’s time for dinner so we decided to have ‘Zi Char’ at Kok Sen Eating House. The coffee shop tucked away in a little street is a winner of Green Book awards for many years. This old coffee shop has no air-condition and always crowded and some of the customers will have to eat at the dark back alley. No much of renovation of the coffeeshop but the foods served here are delicious and affordable price.

Here are the dishes that were served within 15 minutes time. I would say it is quite fast and efficient with the quality of foods served.

Golden Dragon Chicken. It is highly recommended by the staff and only available during the weekend. The chicken meat was removed and replace by seafood paste and deep fried. I would suggest to try it with the sauce to make the meat taste flavourful. Otherwise, it would be quite bland taste.

Claypot Yong Tau Foo which is one of the specialty dish. Most of the tables are served with this dish. Yong Tau Foo is deep fried and simmers in puckering bean paste gravy. Fish paste filled in brinjal, chili and beancurd pockets were not soggy at all. It absorbs the sauce well and it is best to enjoy it with a bowl of rice.

Soupy Chinese Spinach with salted egg and century egg. This vegetable dish most commonly served at zi char’s stall. The stock was rich and vegetables are soft and tasty.

Fish curry served with lady fingers and brinjals. The curry sauce does go well with plain rice. Taste wise is just fine only.

Spring Onion and ginger frog legs is a well-known dish to be try at Geylang. The dish was quite dry and the frog leg meat was moist and crust. Not recommended to order as I think Geylang’s version taste better.

Bittergourd with Braised Pork with the wok hei taste made the dish taste delicious. The bittergourd was not bitter as the sauce blends into it. The meat texture is tender and soft and compliments well with the thick sauce.

Overall dinner was pleasant as the waiting time was short. The dishes are served within 20 minutes. Thus, this explains their turnover for dinner time was quite fast. People don’t really need to queue for long to get a seat in the coffeeshop.
