Italian Dinning  Smile Jan 11, 2013

Categories : Italian | Restaurant | Pasta

We had a lovely dinner on Wednesday night at an italian restaurant located at 14 Stanley Street. It is a walking distance from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station. It is a recommendation by my friend as the one of the owner is her client. We made reservation before dropping by the restaurant named PepeNero. As shown in their website, PepeNero means black pepper in Italian, which refers back to the most popular and commonly used spice in the world. It finds its way into nearly everything from Indian curries to Italian cuisines.

This is a contemporary fine restaurant located in the downtown area. It is ideal for executives who are working nearby for quick business lunch and after work happy hours. The environment and ambience of the place allows a quiet evening with your love ones or private dinning. The restaurant is decorated with wine bottles and square frame pictures to fill up the apple green wall. Understand from one of the owner, the interior design of the restaurant is done by them. Simple and elegant i would say. Good job for them!

Portebello Mushroom @$S12.00 served as appertizer as well. Love the presentation and the colour combination of it.

Homemade White Truffle stuffed Tortelloni with truffle emulsion light cream @S$30.00 per serving. It's a seasonal dish and we were in luck to try white truffle. The cream taste is fantastic. It's a beautiful piece art presentation which taste as nice as it looks. The white truffles are shaved thinly and stuffed with pork meat into the ring-shaped pasta.

Pan Seared Tuna Goulash with Grilled Leeks and Crustacean Reduction @S$30.00 per serving. The tuna was cooked in a special way as it is presented in cube sizes where you can see the middle part is raw and outer is well cooked. You can feel the difference of the fish texture. Love the combination with the sauce.

Spaghetti seafood in "cartouche" sauteed with white wine and light tomato sauce @S$29.00 per serving. Everyone love this dish. The dish was served in a wrapped bag. The staff unwrapped it in front of us and we can see the vibrant colour of the spaghetti.

Homemade Tiramisu with marinated Cheeries @S$12.00.Wonderful piece of dessert. The softness and smooth layer of tiramisu cake melts into the mouth. The taste is different from tiramisu cake that i had previously.

It was a fruitful dinner as we are educated with the culture and the knowledge of italian cuisine. The staff will approach us and ask for feedback and comments after the dinner. They will treat customers like friends and chat with us to input us with more information about italian cuisine. It is one of the way to educate customers on the cuisine. Understand from them, they will change their menu every 2-3 months. Some are seasonal menu such as the white truffles to give an example. So whenever you drop by the restaurant, they will be something new and surprise waiting for you to explore. The exquisite homemade foods shows the effort of the chef in his job.

I would definitely visit them again with their kind and warm welcome hospitality. It makes you feel comfortable and happy dinning with them. Afterall the food quality is par value with the price. I like the contemporary fine feel to the restaurant and yet not pay through my nose for good food.

Mei Heong Yuen Dessert located nearby Chinatown mrt which is a local heritage dessert shop known by local singaporeans. It is a good place to get the shave of ice to cool ourselves due to hot weather.

It is also in my favourite dessert list in Singapore if i drop by Chinatown. Had an outing with my friend and we headed over for dessert.

The dessert shop is always crowded with customers but the service is quite fast and efficient. We need to pay once the foods are served. They have various flavors to select from especially all kind of fruity snow ice.

A must try-carrot cake which taste yummy when you dip into their specialty chili sauce.
The texture is very smooth and soft.

Mango is always my favourite fruit. We ordered mango shave ice and truly mango taste. Very sweet and fruitful as well. It is just nice for 2 person sharing.

The menu will be placed on the table and the staff will attend to you within few minutes. They will take your order and it is served within few minutes. The process of waiting is very minimal and we will need to make payment upon serving.

Sweet Frutti Smile Dec 12, 2012

I always wanted to try Fruit Paradise as the presentation of the fruittie cakes are way too attractive to me. I finally got the chance as when cousins get together for sweet tooth. Luckily we reserved the cakes because the cakes are selling like hot cakes. I always passed by Fruit Paradise and never really want to try the fruit cakes because i felt the price is a bit pricey.

Even by looking at the photos, my saliva is drooling. We ordered one slice of banana cake and mango cake to try. True enough that the taste is as good as the presentation.Awfully delicious and sinful! I felt so loved!

The mango and banana are nicely filled into the gaps of the cake layers and you can taste the fruit sweetness when you have it with the sponge cake and also the cream. We were so engrossed with the cakes and started to have shooting before we dig in.

The cake slice is around S$6.90 per slice if i remembered clearly. I felt that the price is pricey but the quality of the cake paid off. I would love to try it again.

Lunch Buffet Smile Jul 04, 2014

I have always wanted to try Todai as it is well known as the “Mother of all Seafoods”. Finally has the chance to visit the restaurant as we bought a deal S$38.00nett for lunch buffet on weekdays. We made prior reservation before heading to the restaurant to avoid any disappointment.
The restaurant is very spacious and huge compared to other buffet restaurants that I visited. Each section has their individual open concept kitchen where the chefs perform their tasks. All chefs are busy preparing for the foods and the display are nicely filled with beautiful decorated foods. Basically, chefs are doing their job on individual sections to ensure the turnover of foods servings.
Since it is a lunch buffet, fresh oysters are not served. But snowcrabs are served for lunch though. Salmon sashimi is available as well. There is a chef at the counter slicing the sashimi live to meet the customers’ demand.
I personally enjoyed the salads section. There are quite a various selections for salads and are nicely presented on the display. It is something different from the usual buffets. Different kind of dressings are mixed with the ingredients. This tempts me to try all of it. Unlike most of the restaurants, salads bar does not have choices like these.

Live Italian pasta is available in request. Diners can request for the available choices of pasta of the day for chef to prepare on the spot. Foods are always taste better when it is served hot. Korean section is available with some of the korean specialty foods at the section. Churrasco section has the well- grilled meats that are nicely grilled and juicy taste.Desserts section is not to miss with its variety of desserts available on the counter. Crème brulee and different flavors of mini slices of cakes are available. The portion of the cakes is just perfect for buffet session. This can reduce the food wastage and diners able to taste a bit of everything.
The restaurant has an excellent culinary standard as the chefs delicately prepared the foods and did the art plating as well. Service staffs were prompt with their services. Plates are cleared away after I am back from my next serving. I will definitely visit to try the dinner session next round.

Affordable French cuisine Smile Dec 16, 2012

It was a birthday week on august month. My friend was in town over the weekend and I am in luck. She treated me for lunch and we headed to Saveur after our tour from Garden By The Bay. I always wanted to try it as the cafe serves affordable french foods and I heard many reviews about it. The cafe does not allow reservations and long queue when my sister went over on Friday night. So my friend and I tried our luck on Saturday and we waited for around 15minutes to get a seat in the afternoon session.

They served lunch menu with available choices from starters, soups, mains, premiums, sides and desserts. My choice of the day : Confit of Duck with Orange Segments and Saute Shittake @ S$9.90
The serving was just nice. The mash potatoes are soft and and smooth. The confit duck meat tender is soft and tender as well.I love the taste of the saute shiitake as i blend it with the mashed potato.Overall it is tasty and affordable dish.

Crispy Pork Belly with Poached Egg and diced vegetables @ S$10.90
The pork belly is crispy especially the skin. The egg yolk burst out and it just flow beautifully around the diced vegetables and the pork belly meat. It's not extremely awesome but it is affordable price with the serving as well.

Not forgetting we ordered the all time favourite Angel Hair Pasta with Sherry Minced pork and sakura Ebi @ S$3.90.
This is truly affordable and definitely a must order dish. The pasta is very Q and guess what we just can't get enough of it. Basically every table served at least per serving of the pasta.

We ended our lunch with a nice dessert, chocolate and hazelnut. It is a new dessert for us. The crunchy hazelnut bits and the appearance desserts makes me feel loved. It is sinful and sweet but the amount served was just nice for both of us. I am happy with my choice of dessert.

It's definitely a good place for affordable French foods. If you looking for budget-conscious place and would love to try french cuisine, you can try this cafe. It is a maiden experience if you don't mind queuing for the foods. The staffs are efficient and the serving time is within 20 minutes. It is walking distance between City Hall MRT and also Bugis MRT.
