Desserts @ Ootoya Smile Jan 03, 2013

I love patronizing Ootoya Japanese Restaurant. When i get to know that there is another branch located at Suntec City, i decided to give it a try.It is accessible through nearest MRT station- Esplanade Station and a short walking distance. It is located at the basement water fountain area.Normally when i patronize the restaurant, i will order the main course for my lunch or dinner. This time round is quite different because I ordered dessert! We were supposed to wait for friend to have proper dinner. The desserts were surprising as good as it looks. Simply sweet and delicious!

Zenzai Milk S$6.00 which contains rice flour dumplings with red beans and peanut crush. As you know japanese red bean taste sweeter than ours and it goes extremely well with the dumplings and very chewy as well. Closer look of the dumplings. There are big and Q.

Warabimochi S$7.00 which includes jelly balls with sweet red bean, soybean flour and peanut crush. The jelly is very Q and it goes very with the ice-cream. The cold ice-cream combination with the jelly balls mixed well into your taste buds.

I would say that the standard of Ootoya is quite consistent and it does not disappoint me and my friends. Definitely a good place for nice and affordable home feel japanese cuisine. They also served nice and combination of traditional and modern desserts.

First Lunch of Year 2013 Smile Jan 03, 2013

Ootoya 大戶屋 is a popular teishoku-ya from Japan whish open it's 1st Singapore family-style restaurant in Orchard Central. It is accessible to nearest mrt station named Somerset Station. Orchard Central is just next to 313 Somerset and walking distance of 5 mins. The restaurant is located at level 8 of the building.

I recommended my friends who came for holiday for a quick lunch here. I have been here for several times and the foods here does not disappoint me at all. This time round i am surprised with their new changes of food presentation. Their menu has changed too. Brand new year with brand new look and layout.
Menu

Menu

I ordered my favourite tori salad set that comes with the rice, miso soup, chawanmushi and appertizer. My all time favourite grilled katsu with the salad dressing that i couldn't miss craving for it all the time. The tenderness of the meat and the skin of the chicken was nicely grilled and goes well with the dressing. Everything smell and taste good with the white rice and into the mouth. The presentation was splendid as well. They have the rice set to served in different tray unlike previous (last year).

Kimuchi Nabe @ S$19.90 set that comes with simmered pork slice and vegetable in the kimuchi hot plate. The kimchi hotpot comes with the eggs and also the beancurd. The beancurd is very smooth and u can just sip them into your mouth. I don't take spicy and the soup is just nice for me. My friend love it and it goes well with plain rice.

Shoga Yaki @S$23.50 (Set) / S$18.50 (Ala carte). We ordered ala carte for this. It is sauteed ginger pork which has the taste of chinese cuisine. The meat thickness is slightly thicker than the simmered pork slice. Nevertheless the taste is still as good as it looks. However, the meat is a bit chewy though. She prefer the thickness of the pork slice to be thinner a bit. But overall taste good.

This restaurant also provide free flow ocha and also free refillable rice to customers. The price is reasonable as well. I love the rice. It's super nice and goes well with all other foods. Too bad i'm full after a bowl of rice and i can't even have the chance to request for second bowl.As for the ocha taste refreshing and nice aroma as well. It should be able to wash away the grease after the dinner which i always presume that.

The staffs are friendly and polite as well. They are prompt to respond and attentiveness. They put on smile to serve the customers and i can see the consistency of their services after patronizing them for several times. Their serving time is quite consistent as well. It is within the range of 15-20 minutes.

Overall, it's a nice homely restaurant feel and i will bring my family there if i have the chance to do so.I miss the rice.. smile

Japanese Foods OK Dec 30, 2012

Tomo in Japanese means "friends".This japanese restaurant named Tomo Izakaya located at Esplanade is a nice place for dining. The decoration of the restaurant are mostly in woods and placed origami handicraft on the wall. They also have sake bottles to be used as decorations as well. The nearest MRT is Esplanade MRT station. You can reach there by City Hall MRT station. It will be a walking distance around 15minutes. It is located at level 1 of esplanade mall wich has the outdoor dinning area as well.

Below are the selection of foods that we ordered:-

Zaru Soba @ S$9
I like the cold noodle which taste refreshing. The texture of the noodle is very Q and the sauce that goes with the spring onion, wasabi and sesame is splendid.
A snap of photo after we combine all the ingredients into the sauce taken below for reference.

This is something new to me.Ton-Shabu Salad S$12.50
Thinly sliced boiled pork with onion and mixed salad in sesame dressing. Simply splendid! The thickness of the boiled pork is not more than 5mm and combination with the salad gives the refreshing taste.

Dashimaki Tamago S$7.00
The tamago is something different from the taste one we had normally.
The texture is smooth and not so sweet as well.

Ninniku Jyako Fried Rice S$10.50
We don't enjoy it. The fried rice is dried and we need to drink ocha to digest the fried rice.

Overall the foods here are delicious except for the fried rice.It is quite disappointing though.
However, the staff services are great. They are attentive and prompt to our order. They provide suggestion for our dinning choice as well. Definitely a nice place to dine in with friends.

It was an impromptu dinner affair with ex-colleagues last friday. It was my first time to Marina Keppel Bay and many thanks to Jo for bring me over to enjoy the night view at keppel bay. It was silent romance night view for me. The lights of the cables and the Reflections' Building lights have light up the dark night. Awesome place for romance! Too bad i am with girls not guy.

TCC (The Connoisseur Concerto) has a branch here as well. I also get to know TCC GSS promotion special going on til 22nd July 2012. So why not? It was full house when we reached there around 8 plus and we waited for approximately 15 minutes outside before we can get a seat inside the cafe. One of the service staff was extremely friendly and professional. He served us ice water while we are waiting and chat with us which at the same time recommend the main course to us.

Took a picture of the menu as the staff explained that the branch here has different design of menu and choices as well. Totally match with the keppel by the bay concept smile

Since the promotion is one for one main course, we ordered 4 sets to share with 3 persons. Sound like a glutton here. So they will charge whichever higher price for 2 main courses out of 4 main courses. Awesome isn't it? You get to try different type of it and come back for more next time.

Grilled Kurobuta Pork Loin with Rosemary Wine Jus S$27.80
Combination of kurobuta pork loin, roasted fingerling potato, carrot stick, US asparagus served with rosemary wine jus and apple puree. Fantastic i would say but i would prefer the meat texture is be not to hard to cut/ slice it. I had difficulties to cut it into slices. Although it seems to be hard to cut, but it's not hard to chew. The sauce prepared soften the meat texture of the pork loin and you can enjoy chewing it.

Homely-Style Beef Stew S$20.80
It's the combination of braised beef stew, asparagus and baked new potatoes. The beef was nicely done. The fats or we called it collagen and the meat texture was soft and tender. It blend into the sauce prepared. It was just nice to share among friends as i think it's too much of meat for me. But overall was awesome. I can find the satisfaction for the beef stew.

Jalapeno Salmon S$22.50
Pan-smeared salmon, spicy lotus root, broccolini, baked new potatoes, capscium salsa and jalapeno cream. Not a fan of cooked salmon though but this dish turned out to be acceptable one for me. I would prefer salmon sashimi then. The salmon was medium well done as per requested and the skin is cripsy. The salmon colour is beautiful and so is the taste. I love the jalapeno cream which goes perfectly well with the salmon.

Chicken & Turkey Bacon Lasagne S$16.50
Smoked turkey bacon slices, mozzarella cheese, tomato mushroom sauce and parmesan cheese ring bouquet. The combination turned out to be delicious. It was served hot and you can smell the mixture of cheese and tomato sauce. The ingredients are rich and you can taste the chicken and smoked turkey bacon slices for almost each mouth.

Finally have a nice dinner to end the tiring week. Working has been very taxing with the deadlines and responsibilities. So i told myself to reward myself with good foods.

TCC is also well known with their drinks and we ordered some to try. Forget the name of the drinks but it was recommended by the staff and it turned out to suit my tastebud though.

Ended the friday night enjoying the view from the restaurant and chit chatting all the way. Totally feel relaxed as if celebrating the countdown of weekend.

How to get there: Telok Blangah MRT (CC28) and exit A with a walking distance approximately 12-15 minutes.Alternatively, you can take Bus 10, 30, 57, 61, 93, 97, 97E, 100, 131, 143, 145, 166, 188, 408 and walking
distance of 10 minutes. I would prefer to have own transportation if were to dine here as it is really inconvenience.

Spending: Approximately $25-$35 per pax

Katong Laksa Treat Smile Dec 11, 2012
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Noodles

Sunday is a family day and we (my family members) had a great bonding over the weekend. We also have family bonding session during weekends. So this post is during early march this year.

So,we headed to east coast road for lunch.

Finally have the chance to try Singapore famous 328 Katong Laksa. You never go wrong when u ask around where to try the famous katong laksa in singapore. People will direct you to the 328 Katong Laksa which is located along the shop lots and not easy to find car park there. We need to park at the residential area and walked to the stall to try.

The view of the long list of photos and news reviews that was featured around Singapore. There are many local and overseas actors and actresses featured on the wall. There are pictures of the owner which is the ex-beauty queen, Lucy Koh posing with the celebrities.

It shows how famous Katong Laksa it is and spread around the little island of Singapore.

The shop has two areas with air-conditioned area and non-air conditioned area.

We opt for the air-conditioned area of course. We were being served immediately asking for orders. It was so fast that we yet to settle down and decide although we know that we are here for laksa.

I ordered the medium size of laksa to try. The laksa comes with 3 sizes which are small @ SGD4, medium @ SGD5 and large @ SGD6. The laksa comes with the thick bee hoon, slices of fish cake, cockles, prawn and sprinkles of laksa leaves, fragrant coconut gravy which is not too heavy or spicy. I thought it is spicy type but totally wrong about it and i enjoyed the laksa. Did i mentioned that the laksa is served with soup spoon only? You can totally finish up the whole bowl without the help of a pair of chopstick.

Oh ya..there is also sambal paste on the table to add up the spice of the laksa. But i would prefer the original taste of the laksa.

First time trying and low expectation on how people exagerating the famous katong laksa, it turned out to be delicious for me and my family members. I rarely take laksa but katong laksa really suits my taste bud after all. I am craving for it after the first bowl.
