Waffle Session Smile Mar 29, 2014

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

Waffle Slayer is the new trending waffles café under Stranger’s Reunion. The shop space was expanded next to Stranger’s Reunion. You can read my dinning experience with Stranger's Reunion here.
Waffle Slayer offers varieties of sweet and savoury waffles on top of the existing waffles offered by Stranger’s Reunion. Although the café is mainly on waffles, they do served Stranger’s Reunion menu as well.

I had ordered Apple Almond Crumble Buttermilk Waffles @S$14.90++ for dessert after dinner (Date Visit: 7/3/2014). The waffle texture was soft to our liking but overall is delicious. The crumbles and bits of almonds add in the crunchy taste of it. Combination of the caramelised apples with vanilla ice-cream to compliment with waffles do work wonder to our taste bud.
As for service wise, I felt that there are short handed people for serving. We have difficulties getting attention from the staffs. Nevertheless, the staffs are quite friendly and put on a smile to customers.
The total bill comes with 10% service charges.

Brunch Session OK Mar 27, 2014
Categories : European | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant

My perception towards District 10 was “Oh, it’s a chill out places for drinks”. But I was wrong. This place does serve brunch session as well. District 10 Bar & Restaurant in UE Square mall serves modern European cuisine, quality food and affordable drinks.

Outdoor area

Outdoor area

The restaurant has recently undergoing revamping end of last year and they have a private dinning room now. The private dinning room can fit up to 12 pax and reservation is required. You may have special request for your menu as well. District 10 also has more tables to its outdoor area to chill out which is still under shelter.
On weekends, you will see a large bouncing castle set up next to the outdoor restaurant for brunching families with kids. It is a brilliant idea as the parents can enjoy their brunch while the kids can have fun at the same time.

I started off with a refreshing drink called Antioxidant S$13++ serve with peach, green apple, mango and strawberry.

Pizza with Wagyu Beef Cheek Rendang S$29++ served in thin crusted layer of pizza with localized taste of rendang.
District 10 Brunch Beef burger S$20++ was our favourite pick of all. The serving comes with charcoal grilled black angus patties topped with fried egg, cripsy back bacon, cheddar cheese on a sesame bun and served with natural cut fries. Loving the tenderness and juiciness of the beef patties and it compliments well with the combination ingredients.

Hoegaarden Battered Fish & Chips with Mint Mushy Peas and Tartare Sauce S$22++. Battered fish was nicely done with golden brown crispy skin and soft and smooth texture in the inside.

District 10 Eggs Benedict S$16++ served with poached eggs on toasted muffin and sauteed spinach, smoked salmon & hollandaise sauce. Poached eggs were nicely done with smooth flowing egg yolk that flows on the toasted muffin.

Pandan Coconut Pancake with Gula Melaka Syrup S$9++ that comes with a big serving for one pax. I personally feel that it can be shared with 2pax as the pancake size is big and thick. The taste of it is very much localized with sweetness taste of gula melaka syrup.
On the other side note, District 10 is having Happy Hour promotion for the 1-for-1 draft beer, housepour spirits, housepour wine by the glass and exotic gin tonics is available daily from 11am to 8pm, with gourmet pizzas at additional $10 nett only.

Breakfast Brunch Smile Mar 27, 2014
Categories : American | Café | Brunch

It has been quite sometime since I last post about breakfast brunch. It’s my second visit to Hatched but to their outlet at Holland Village. The café is conveniently accessible via walking distance from Holland Village MRT station. Hatched is an egg-inspired, all day breakfast place to chill out. The eggs here are served in many different forms such as boiled, poached, baked, scrambled and more.
My sisters and I decided to have our brunch here on of the weekend. The exterior of the restaurant with its floor to the ceiling length glass window and yellow criss-cross bars snaking across the surface gives a creative feeling of the place set up. It has different exterior and interior designs from the one at Evans Lodge.
Sir Benedict S$13.00 (1 egg) or S$19.00 (2eggs) served classic with ham, poached egg and the hollandaise sauce on top of a breakfast muffin. Poached egg was well done as the yolk was done just right as it just flow out smoothly right upon cutting it.The combination of sour and slightly creamy sauce was perfect to enhance the taste of the egg and ham. It comes with 1 or 2 option so sister ordered 1 only and it is quite filling.
Salted Egg Ranch on Potato Spuds S$12.00 beautifully served in a plate.Potato spuds dressed with an Asian twist of salted egg dressing..
Croque Madame S$16.00 served in grilled ham and cheese sandwich with a fried egg on top served with steak fries. Fried egg was nicely done with the yellowish yolk lying on top the sandwich makes the whole dish looks appetizing. Not to mentioned that the steak fries was thick and filling too.
Serving time was within 20 minutes and service staffs are quite attentive to customers. We do get their attention when we need to place order and also refill water. Overall dinning experience is pleasant with the food quality, service and of course companion.
Total Bill was S$63.60 which inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% GST. We didn’t order any drinks as it comes with free flow of plain water. If you are craving for breakfast dinner, you might want to drop by for a filling craving.

Lunch Feast OK Mar 27, 2014
Categories : Italian | Middle Eastern/Mediterranean | European | Pasta | Steaks and Grills

This is my second visit here for lunch. Saizeriya is a Japanese owned Italian-styled family restaurant that is well-known with its price. It is truly affordable price offer which best suits for budget family or group gathering. Thanks to Openrice team, I am able to try more varieties this time round.

Pomelo Salad S$3.90 which serves as an appetizer to start off the meal. Refreshing salad treat as the pomelo were mixed with balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil and black pepper.
Northen Shrimp Cocktail Salad S$4.90 which is a mixture of iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce with north land shrimps and cherry tomatoes. The lettuces are fresh served and the cherry tomatoes are juicy too.
Salmon Salad S$5.90 served with a combination of iceberg and romaine lettuces, mini tomatoes and Norwegian Smoked Salmon best to have them as an appetizer.
Chicken Doria S$4.90 consists of baked rice with chicken Bolognese sauce and white sauce. It would be one of the choice to order if you are a cheese lover.
Paella S$7.90 comes with seafood as main ingredients served. Mussels, squid and shrimp were served pipping hot in a hotplate.
Chicken Wings S$7.90 (8pcs) , S$3.95 (4pcs) were served in hotplate. The wings were quite a hit when it was served. The skin of the chicken wing was quite sticky as it sticks to the pan.
Not forgetting the best seller dish in the menu, Oven Grilled Escargots S$5.90. The taste is quite consistent when I last tried. Grilled with special butter topped with minced garlic enhance the fragrance of the dish.
Bacon Spaghetti Carbonara S$5.90 comes with Italian flavour of creamy egg yolk sauce. It tasted normal to me. But can’t really expect more of the taste since the price you are paying is relatively low compared to other restaurant.
Curry Chicken Pizza S$7.90 is an interesting dish. The pizza comes with curry flavour and notable grilled chicken chunks drizzle with bell pepper. Curry sauce was not too strong though.
Seafood Spaghetti S$7.90 served with classic combination of squid, prawn, scallop and tomato sauce.
Baked Asar Clam S$3.90 is worth ordering. The price is too tempting that you couldn’t want to miss this.
Mussels Marinara S$5.90 served in 8 pieces and cooked in tomato and garlic sauce. The mussels texture were quite chewy and I barely taste the sauce. It would be nice if the sauce is much thicker.
Tiramisu Cake S$4.90 is a dessert that is well-known in restaurants. There are many versions of it and the one we had here is the sponge cake dipped in a liquor and layered grated chocolate and custard. The taste wise is quite decent with the price to pay.
Overall, the foods quality is average with the price offer. Prices listed on the menu are nett and quite reasonable.

Casual Dining OK Mar 12, 2014
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café

My friend was in town for business trip on one of the weekdays so we decided to have our dinner session at Marina Square shopping mall. The mall was newly renovated last year and there are new additions of F&B restaurants available for shoppers and patrons. We were considering which restaurant to try on and decided on Addictions Café at last. The café has a spacious open concept layout which apparently ideal for small gatherings.

Half spring chicken in pommery mustard with french beans and baby potatoes

Half spring chicken in pommery mustard with french beans and baby potatoes

For the mains, I had the half spring chicken in pommery mustard with french beans and baby potatoes @S$19.00. I enjoyed it as the chicken is nicely marinated and crispy on the outer’s skin. The meat texture was tender and succulent. The portion is quite generous and filling for me.
Truffle fries with parmesan cheese shavings

Truffle fries with parmesan cheese shavings

Truffle fries with parmesan cheese shavings @S$10.00 was served as our ala-carte. The portion is quite decent with the value price offer. I personally feel that the parmesan cheese shavings are not equally spread all over the fries. We barely taste the parmesan cheese and truffles halfway through.
Berry Orange Raise

Berry Orange Raise

I had their signature non-alcoholic drink which is the Berry Orange Raise @S$10.00. It has a complex independent taste that includes orange, watermelon, apple and strawberries. However, watermelon was out of stock when I ordered and they add in more orange into the drink. Thus, orange taste is much stronger than other fruits that are in it.
Flourless chocolate cake with coconut cream cheese icing, brandy chocolate ganache and vanilla ice-cream

Flourless chocolate cake with coconut cream cheese icing, brandy chocolate ganache and vanilla ice-cream

As for dessert, we tried the Flourless chocolate cake with coconut cream cheese icing, brandy chocolate ganache and vanilla ice-cream @S$10.00. The chocolate taste was strong and sinful and if you are a chocolate lover, you should give it a try.

Overall, the café provides a wide range of selection from appetizers, mains and dessert which is quite comprehensive. The price and the food quality are reasonable and affordable and it is conveniently located in the shopping mall which is a few meters walk away from City Hall MRT station.
