Finger Licking Chicken OK Mar 11, 2014

Categories : Korean | Fast Food | Halal | Korean Fried Chicken

4 Fingers has been a hit in the social platform since it opened it’s outlet in Singapore. I always see long queue whenever I passed by. My sister and I decided to give it a try one day when there is no long queue.

This fast food chain of restaurant is well-received among the youths. The popular Korean Fried Chicken comes with flavours of soy garlic, spicy or mixed in the menu gives wider choices when you place an order. The seasoning is tasty and you will slowly lick the sauces off the skin and your fingers.

DBS was running a promotion exclusively for DBS/ POSB Credit & Debit Cards for 18pcs chicken wings/ drummettes combo @S$19.95 (UP: S$21.95). Total of S$2.00 off for the set and we (2 of us) decided to have it. I still can’t believe both of us finish the 18pcs that night with a pack of fries.

Order and payment are to be made on the counter. The waiting time is approximately 15 minutes time which maybe high possibility that they prepare upon ordering. The chicken is delightfully thin and crunchy with it’s skin but I find the meat is slightly hard. I like the fries as it was generously served with seaweed, sea salt, paprika and chili flakes. The combination of the ingredients gives the fries a rich flavorful taste.

Total bill was S$21.90 which includes two cups of sprite and 7%GST charges. If you are a chicken wing lovers, you might want to give it a try!

Impromptu Dinner OK Mar 07, 2014
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Evelyn and I had an impromptu dinner on one of the weekdays after work.We decided Bishan Junction 8 to be the meeting point. It is situated conveniently at Bishan MRT Station. Since she is craving for ramen, we headed to Watami restaurant for dinner. It was a late dinner around 9 pm. We get our queue number from the queue machine in front of the restaurant while waiting patiently for the staff to call us in.

It is an hour away from closing time. Thus, the restaurant atmosphere was quite quiet and cosy. I usually dine in during peak hours and I can hear noises coming from many different tables. It was a perfect moment for us to have a cosy chit chat session.

Here are the choice of dishes we ordered :-
Kara Miso Ramen

Kara Miso Ramen

Kara Miso Ramen @S$13.30++
Spicy miso ramen with pork slice served in a big bowl. The serving time is within 10 minutes. The soup broth was thick enough. Although it is called spicy miso ramen, we do not really taste the spiciness. Nevertheless, the overall taste suits Evelyn’s taste bud. She doesn’t feel too greasy or creamy after finishing the whole bowl.
Ishiyaki Steak Don

Ishiyaki Steak Don

Ishiyaki Steak Don @S$14.30++
Short Ribs rice in sizzling stone pot. Usually dishes served in sizzling stone pot will have slightly longer waiting time. So, if you do not want to wait, you might consider other choices available in the menu. I love the tenderness of the short ribs marinated with the sauce. It is quite juicy and compliments well with the rice served in the stone pot. The stone pot is still in hot temperature when I whipped off the dish.

Hot Ocha were ordered to go with the meal. Service staff was quite prompt re-filling our green tea. Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience.

Total bill was S$32.50 which includes 7% GST & 10% GST.

Sister and I decided to have our dinner venue fixed at Nex Mall.As I was craving for fish meat, we decided to have Fish & Co. that night. There wasn’t any queue around 7pm and we managed to get the seats within minutes. The restaurant is apparently full house once we got seated.

The server was a young lady who explained the on-going promotion and also the soup of the day when she gave us the menu and iPad. This is first time I used iPad to order from Fish & Co..I didn’t realize that Fish & Co. has changed the ordering system. They are relying more on the technology and reduce the manpower on the service line. Nevertheless, the ordering system using iPad was user-friendly and straight forward to me. Once we placed the order through the system, the service staff will print out the order list and confirm with us on the order. Our foods are served within 15-20 minutes time.

I ordered Fish & Chips @S$15.95 with additional S$5.50 to complete the meal with a soup and a drink. One of the recommendation in the menu. The presentation of the main course is as delicious as it looks. The fish is crispy in the outer and soft in the inner. I love to have it with tartar sauce. The soup of the day was Seafood chowder and I ordered Ice Lemon Tea for my choice of drink.

Sister had Baked Cod with Spicy Teriyaki @S$18.95 with additional S$5.50 to complete the meal with a soup and a drink. Flaky Atlantic Cod Fillet baked and topped with spicy teriyaki sauce. The sauce was widely spread all over the cod fillet topping when it is served. There are options for two sidelines and sister decided to go with the coleslaw and rice.
Total Bill was S$54.02 inclusive of 7% GST and 10% Service charge.

Mentaiko Spaghetti-My Favourite OK Mar 07, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Pasta

Menu

Menu

Kabe No Ana Restaurant has a long history of its own. It was established in 1953 and they invented the mentaiko spaghetti and is the original Japanese Spaghetti House. We have the first outlet here in Singapore which is opened by RE&S Enterprises Pte Ltd. It is under the same group with Ichiban Sushi & Ichiban Boshi but with different concept of restaurant. My sister and I decided to give it a try on of one our dinner date after work.
Menu and order sheet were presented to us once we are seated. We flipped through the menu and placed our order through the order sheet. The service staff will then process our order accordingly. Serving time was approximately 15-20 minutes.

Mentaiko Salmon Avocado @S$15.90
Spaghetti Salmon & avocado with spicy cod roe sauce was served in a big plate which looks very appertizing. The portion was quite valuable with the price offer. Mentaiko sauce was strong and can’t really taste of the avocado in it.

Hotate Mentai Cream Sauce @S$15.90
Scallop and shimeji mushroom with spicy cod roe carbonara sauce was definitely a good choice of the day. The creamy sauce compliments well with the spaghetti. Smooth creamy thick sauce well absorbed into the scallops and mushroom gives a tasty taste.

There is a side menu which stated Add on S$2.00 to upsize the pasta. Few options are available and we decided to go for mini salad & soup @S$2.50. The mini salad and soup was served before the spaghetti which we think it is a good start for the dinner.

Total bill was S$43.20 inclusive of 10% service charges and 7% service charges. Usually we asked for bill and the service staff will come with the bill but this is not the practise in this outlet. Payment is to be made at the cashier counter. Dinner was decent with the price offer.

Must Try Baked Bun @ Tim Ho Wan Smile Feb 16, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Noodles | Kids-Friendly

When my friend is in town, we went to Ho Tim Wan for a quick dinner. When Ho Tim Wan opened it’s first outlet at Plaza Atrium, the queue was dramatically crazy. People are queuing for hours to get a seat. This is the second outlet located at a walking distance from Toa Payoh Interchange provides heart landers to have a chance to try the Michelin-star restaurant.

We were quite lucky on that day as there isn’t any queue at all when we arrive around 6pm. Order sheets were given to us to place our order. So, here goes the foods that we ordered that day:-

Baked Bun with BBQ Pork (3pcs) @ S$ 4.50++. This is known as the 4 Heavenly Kings and this dish is well-received by many. It is identical to Hong Kong’s and it is best to have it while it is hot. The baked bun is crumbly and combination of sweet and salty taste.

Steamed Beef Ball with beancurd skin @S$4.20++. This is something different for us as we never tried the combination of it. Surprisingly it tasted delicious as it flows smoothly into the throat. The taste was not overwhelming or strong beef taste for us.

Congee with lean pork, century egg & salted egg @S$4.20++. HK style congee suits my taste bud.I love the light taste of it. Overall. I can’t really taste the lean pork but more of the century egg and salted egg.

Rice with Beef & Fried Egg @S$6.00++.The beef taste alike the steamed beef ball.

The empty Vermicelli Roll with Sweet and Sesame Sauce @ S$4.20++ wasn’t too bad. The vermicelli roll is thin, soft and moist. I like the sesame sauce but it can get too salty if you eat it too much.

Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Petal Cake (Cold) (3pcs) @S$3.50++. This is my favourite dessert and best served cold. There are elements of flowers in the cake gives the refreshing taste of it.

Receipt is printed immediately upon ordering and placed on your table. When you are done with your meal, proceed to the cashier counter to make payment. The service staffs are quite efficient in processing the orders. Serving time is within 15 minutes time and they are quite attentive in customers’ attention.
