Mini Pork Lard Bits OK Jul 12, 2013
Categories : Food Court | Seafood | Zi Char

it was 10pm and was searching for a dinner place so decided to eat near home instead. Most of the koufu stalls were already closed by now so i'm left with ci char. Ordered the fu jian mian (black hokkien mee) at the counter outside and went back in to wait to be served. waiting time was around 5min, it cost $3.80 actually, quite a funny price. Pretty standard fare with fish cake, lean meat and chye sim, they do used quite a fair bit of small fried pork lard bits though. I was thinking it could have added some sliced fish to enhance this dish. Anyway at 10+, several tables were filled with senior folks drinking beer.

i strongly feel for $4.50, this kway chup dish is probably one of the best value in money. In this semi restaurant style located under hdb flat, Teochew Cuisine Restaurant has since established itself as a popular dining place, especially for supper. My kway chup dish comes with duck meat, big intestines, bean-curd and some peanuts. Its not always about the quantity, the quality justifies its $4.50 price tag. With the kway cooked nicely, the slightly salty soup just opens up your appetite to finish up all the ingredients. The accompany 3 sauces also allow you to explore the different taste combination, vinegar sauce, chilli, and bean paste sauce. Anyway the fish soup and porridge is popular orders here as well. This place recently upgraded to electonic parking, so you just park and eat in peace, no more running after summon aunties smile

I declare Mat Noh a winner Smile Jul 09, 2013

Categories : Malay | Singaporean | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

Went down to try the chicken rice after strong recommendation from cycling friends. Its a shop house type of coffee shop with with 4 other stalls. Mat Noh actually takes up 2 stall fronts, one selling mainly the chicken rice and the other standard nasi padang fare. Self service is the way of ordering your food here. Ordered 2 of the standard 1 person chix rice set and also a plate of mixed gizzards and skin. The set comes with a bowl of soup. The rice is the garlic and ginger flavored chicken rice and not the plain version. The chicken is also topped with the crunchy flour bits from the deep frying. The chicken is meaty and well fried, you dun see the semi cooked redness in it. The fried spare parts are also worth mentioning, especially the skin, never knew it can be fried till orange and crispy. This all goes well with the chilli and dark soy sauce mix. Total cost was $8 for 2 plates of chix rice and 1 plate of gizzards mixed with skin. To me mat noh has even surpassed some of the Chinese hawker. Anyway an interesting sight from this coffeeshop is the make shift barber located opposite which seems to cater mainly to senior citizens, a sight you do not get to always see in Spore now, loved the laid back, heartlands atmosphere here.

Thousand Leaves Cake Smile Jul 08, 2013
Categories : American

Was here to send a friend off so grab a bite while waiting. We bought the mocha ice blended $5.90, ice blended green tea $6.70 and chocolate of a thousand leaves cake $6.10. This outlet you can see the crate design counter that the new coffee bean outlets are adopting, maybe to give an impression of freshly delivered beans from south american countries smile You will still see many tables occupied by students mugging away. The chocolate cake was a sinner , with the multi layered texture, its sweetness ot the max and fortunately its top layer is still not so sweet like mudpie kind.

Bean Sauce Beef Noodle Cry Jul 08, 2013
Categories : Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

Ordered the $5 Bean Sauce Beef Noodle, first I must say it did not smell as nice when it arrived. The beef was also not tender enough and made biting a little tough. The sauce given was more than enough though. have taste a lot more better quality ones than this stall. Anyway you place your order at their counter and wait to get served after telling them your table number. This food court here is quite quiet and it serves mainly the working staffs from the nearby industrial areas.
