Dough Culture Smile Aug 10, 2012

Categories : Singaporean

Walking past dough culture made me turn to look at their display of golden looking series of mostly fried snacks. Upon
looking, I found myself craving to order and munch on one (which I did). Among all the variety of snacks, my favourite
was always the tapioca-cake. I did not wait any longer and sank my teeth into it to take my first bite after ordering. The
batter was really light, crispy and you can even see that proof from my picture. Beneath the golden revealed the neon
green encased within which was chewy and had a certain satisfying thickness. It wasn't filling and excessively oily too.

Chill.. Smile Aug 10, 2012

As usual, Tsa ordered a cup of tcc's Premium. He always ordered coffee or tea and I was not surprised when he ordered
that. As for me, I wanted something light and soothing. I decided to try out the Berry Bed of Roses. It came in a curvy glass and the drink was pale gayish pink in colour. A concoction of red berries puree, milk, yogurt and rose syrup. It tasted rather milky and had light yogurt taste, with very light rose flavour. The blended ice actually made it difficult to drink and drained most of the taste away. I kept stirring and hoping that the ice would melt faster! As for my dessert, I had the strawberry yogurt roll. It was strawberry sponge cake roll with yogurt cream fillings inside. The strawberry chunks inside felt like they were soaked in yogurt till they were soggy and tasted super odd. I actually removed some of the cream on the cake's surface to reduce my sinfulness. I was not sure why I was so into yogurt that day!

Ah Teng's Bakery Smile Aug 10, 2012
Categories : English | Bakery

A warm-looking interior greeted my eyes upon entering Ah Teng's Bakery. The aunty (staff) was really friendly and
provided excellent service to us, customers. Although the place looked messy, it was messy in a positive way, which
gave me a sense of being welcomed to a home. Tsa always ordered coffee or tea. This time was tea, and I was quite surprised that they served TWG English Breakfast tea bag.
Tsa decided to order the cheesecake to try which surprised me even more. Since when he eat cheesecake? The
cheesecake was nicely shaped as the exterior looked rather smooth as compared to elsewhere (more pleasing to look at).
I liked the cheesy texture of the cheese and found it quite normal while Tsa found it too heavy for him. I was so glad to
be offered all the plump, juicy and sweet blueberries as Tsa did not like fruits! (The size of those blueberries were about
the size of 10 cent coins!) Besides the cheesecake, Tsa also ordered the kuih lapis. It comes in 2 flavours, pandan and original. This was the original and it tasted really tasty although it was only mildly sweeten. I think Ah Teng's Bakery baked it themselves. As for me, I decided to try out their carrot muffin crumble. The crumble was crunchy and sweet which my sweet tooth loved! Munching into the muffin itself uncovered chunks of thin carrot strips, raisins and walnuts. The balance of the muffin was great and there was no one time when I felt that the flour was too much or too plain. (If you preferred soft muffins, this would not be your liking.) Upon seeing that Tsa ordered a cake, I decided to pick one too. I decided to try out the chocolate banana cake which was the last slice on the display. The layered of sponge, cream, banana and chocolate were nicely stacked on top of each other, making it looked compressed. I found that the sweetness of the chocolate balanced out the other layers itself. The banana was slightly mashed and looked a little blackish which I tried not to be bothered by its colour. The bad mistake I made was not ordering a drink and the sweetness of both desserts almost suffocated me! (Exaggerated a little)

Lks ordered a slice of Classic Marble Cheesecake. It was indeed a rather huge piece, a nice slab of cheese ready to make
our mouth sticky from all that cheesyness.
I ordered the Milky Choc Mousse with Raspberry Coulis. The outer coating of 'brown sand' was not perfect, with many
uncoated gaps around (I photoshopped it to make it looked better). Anyway, it looked atas, with dried up chocolate
staining on the side of the plate itself. Adding on with a twirl of thin chocolate and berries at the side. As for the cake,
pratically chocolate mousse entirely, was creamy, light and it was a decent dessert. However, I could not detect any hint
of red tea which was stated in the menu. (Too mild I supposed)
Wcy decided to indulge a little into something sinful too, and ordered the Cappuccino Cheesecake Dream. I thought that
the chocolate sauce at the base was quite messy and it spoilt the overall appearance. The chocolate ice cream with its
cocoa streusel went quite well with some cream (not all the cream!) and the cappuccino cheesecake.
As for Wll, she decided to try the Perfect Pairing which I had tried before. However, this version was slightly different
from what I had experienced back then. The cheese was served defrosted and felt like soft cream cheese instead of my
frozen solid one which I had trouble eating.

Seventh Heaven Artisanal Desserts Smile Aug 10, 2012

Gbk ordered the 'Listen to your heart' tea, which was a combination of fruits and flora. Not sure why he wanted to drink tea from a dessert outlet. (Must be the name of the tea that attracted him.) Beside the tea, he had a scope of Black Russian ice cream. It was an obvious alcoholic ice cream from its name as a cocktail had the same name. Not sure if the bitterness was
from the chocolate or from the alcohol. He did not really seems to enjoy his bitter choice!
As for me, I had a double scope. One flavor was the Lychee Martini which I was totally addicted to. It has a creamy texture with a slight hint of alcohol and mild lychee flavor. Every spoonful felt rather soothing and refreshing to me. The other flavor was Butterscotch and Pecan. (Another white ice cream) It was too sweet for my liking and it contained bits of nuts. The really bad thing about double or more scopes of ice cream in a cup is that if the flavors crash, it spoils the taste. Both Gbk and my ice cream came with a small glass of palate cleanser. It was Passion Fruit Sorbet that was quite sour and it helped to wash off our ice cream taste that lingered in our mouth. I accidently toppled the glass as the base was rounded. Luckily nothing spilled out as the sorbet was still in its icy form.
As for Lhy he had Wild Strawberries ice cream in a chocolate cup (I forgot the exact name). His dessert arrived and it
really made us laughed! It looked really gay, pink ice cream in a little distorted chocolate cup, with a strawberry resting
on a pile of cream on the ice cream. A supposing wise choice for females who wanted to act feminine. The wild
strawberries flavor tasted just like any other ordinary strawberry flavour. I guessed he got scammed by the extra word
'wild'!
