Ambush set lunch Smile Aug 08, 2012

Categories : European | Pasta | Paella

My friend and I both had the lunch set which includes a drink and the soup of the day. The menu was rather interesting as it was designed like a newspaper. (Like an article!) I loved the minestrone soup although the tomato taste was kind of subtle. It has plenty of chunky and soft-till-melt-in mouth ingredients in it. When I asked for all types of sauce, they gave me these! Chilli, tomato, mustard and mayo. 1 word - Generous
My friend's main course was the fish and chips. The fries were evenly flavoured and tasted like potato chips. The slice of thinly battered fish was crispy on the outside and really tender inside. The serving size was really generous too! As for me, I had 3 different types sausages together with mashed potato. The creamy sauce was rather lacking and it nicely formed a pool on the potato itself. As for the 3 dogs, they had slightly crunchy skin and juicy meat! I kept eating them in alternating sequence to constantly have different taste in my mouth.

A lunch set Smile Aug 08, 2012

Categories : Italian | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant

It was my friend's birthday and I decided to give him a treat, a treat that he could remember as it was his 21th. After
meeting up with him, we walked along Bugis, trying to find the restaurant I had in mind. Unfortunately, we lost our way,
even with my phone's gprs. (I have a bad sense of direction sometimes). We ended up entering this atas looking italian restaurant.
We were not greeted well at first, partially due to our sloppy dressing. We were stunned when we were led inside, as we
did not expect this place to be so classy. After we were seated, we both picked the lunch set. We also ordered 2 bottles of sparkling water unknowingly which cost $9.00 each glass bottle (pure spring water, you can google for 'aqua panna', some water from Italy which tasted so refreshing). The environment was really comfortable and classy and we loved the atas feeling of fine-dining in such an awesome restaurant. After ordering the lunch set, we were served bread, olive oil and vinegar dip. The plain bread itself tasted excellent and crispy. The bread was free-flow and I asked for another slice. We both picked the crispy fish as our appetiser. It was crispy on the outside, fresh and tender inside. The mayonnaise dip made it less dry. My friend's main course was the slices of tender beef. He complained that the portion was too little as the meat was too addictive. For my main course, I tried the white tuna. Each bite from my tuna can feel the
freshness. It was tender and broke down easily in my mouth. I really hope the piece would enlarge itself by 10 times!
There were vegetables found below my tuna. At first, I stared at it as you know some vegetables teenager like me do not want to touch at all. Since I was paying for it, I just tried 1. Unknowingly, I loved the taste as it was really flavourful, full of herbs taste and I finished up all. While we both had tea, we watched the waiter pushed out a trolley of 3
different types of cake. He cut the cake on the spot and served us the cake of our choice. I had the tiramisu and I loved the creamy and smooth texture of it. My friend had the lemon cheese cake. There were jelly-like cubes within the
cake itself. Maybe they were to enhance the lemon and cheese?

Kki cake (dome shaped one) Smile Aug 08, 2012

Heard about this outlet from a friend's facebook post. I never knew around the corner of Ann Siang Hill would have such lovely and cosy place which sell cakes. I happened to go to China Town with 2 friends to change currency for my coming Taiwan trip, and decided to drop by k-ki to have a dessert. You are at the right place when you see this red mailbox. The young lady was polite and soft spoken. Her smile was as sweet as the cakes! (I have not tried the cakes yet, LOL) I ordered this dome chocolate cake which tasted really heavenly. Before I took my time enjoying every bite of it, I spammed quite a few shots as the lighting was rather compromising as I sat outdoors. She gave me a glass of water too. We are also allowed
to pay after we have eaten. What a perfect looking dome! It looks too nice and cute to be eaten. I was rather reluctant to take the first bite that would spoil the perfection. Finally tried it. So creamy and sweet. Felt the sponge and crunch inside. I took my time savouring this piece of joy. By the way, there is the little drom store which shares the same shop space as k-ki. It sells many knick-knacks.

Ice cream! Smile Aug 08, 2012

Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

After our dinner, my friends and I headed to Marvelous Cream for our ice cream indulgence. Among all the 3 ice cream, we all agreed that my choice of the strawberry was best! When I placed a spoon of ice cream into my mouth, I felt a sense of icy chill than instantly refreshed me, while the strawberry flavour slowly crept out after the chill wears off. I loved the small little chunks of banana and strawberry which added more texture to the smooth ice cream. However, the sad thing was that the ice cream always finish much earlier than the waffle basket. 2 of my friends shared the chocolate flavour, with banana chunks and chocolate sauce. A rather chocolaty mix which I got sicked of over time. The ice cream really melted rather quickly as by the time I took the picture, it was already in that melty I-don't-let-you-take (picture of me) state. The other 2 friends also shared the chocolate ice cream with milo powder and chocolate bits. Another rather thick and fudgy mixture and no wonder they kept digging into my not-as-sinful strawberry ice cream!

2 person set Smile Aug 08, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Roasted Meat

We ordered the 2 person set meal and it consists of the following dishes. The pork ribs came before our rice, and I was
already separating the bones from the flesh, and at the same time savouring the sweetness of the sauce. The vegetable dish did not really interest me as I attacked the other dishes first. My priority normally goes to the meat dishes, and thankfully my friend enjoyed the vegetables! Each of us had a bowl of lotus soup and I loved the sweetness and the taste of it. Within a couple of minutes, my bowl was already empty. The 'Dang Gui' duck came slightly late and by then I had already finished half the bowl of rice (The pork ribs were too yummy!). The duck did not lose out to the pork ribs as its tender flesh was infused with the herbal essence which made it stood out. Overall the dishes were really Chinese style and I quite enjoyed the meal.
