Ramen Champion Bario Smile Aug 12, 2012

After pondering through the menus and descriptions of each individual outlets, I decided to choose BARIO - The filling,
manly ramen! Nyx also ordered from the same outlet as me.
Nyx ordered the normal size bowl while I had the half bowl. As I disliked eating hard cabbages and beansprouts, I
requested them to be removed, to save the trouble of me picking them out. The first thing I did was to drink a spoonful
of soup. At first, it certainly was extremely thick and flavorful and we enjoyed it. However, prolonged drinking caused
our throats to get slightly irritated. (I added some spices and plenty of chopped garlic to boost the flavour even more.)
As for Nyx, the whole bowl of ramen made him really bloated because the ramen noodles were not those usual ones but
were rather broad, thick and chewy. (Luckily I took the half bowl!)
Forgot to mention, the half bowl of ramen which I ordered did not have any flavoured egg in it. I ordered one separately,
found it irresistible (the runny yolk!) and decided to add on another. Even the bowl had the 'nan' (male) word slowly
revealing itself as I drank up the soup. I would want to go back to Ramen Champion again to try out the ramens from
other outlets.

Wafflelicious Smile Aug 12, 2012

Ocf had the passion fruit waffle with green tea gelato. At first I thought that the waffle come with fruits and then realised
that it was actually waffle being flavoured by syrup for the extra taste. As for the green tea gelato, it was just those
typical ones that had a slightly bitter aftertaste. (Although I love green tea, I did not want to order the same flavour.)
As for me, I had the banana waffle with creme fraiche gelato with the accidental ordering of additional longans as
topping. I just felt that banana have a strong distinct flavour and goes well with ice cream (maybe from the impression of
the common banana splits). Creme fraiche gelato tasted like yogurt and had a slight sourish taste which I enjoyed. As for
those longans, I paid $1 for them as toppings by accidental ordering. (Could not helped it but to repeat the word
'accidental'!) Anyway, freshly made waffles are always crispy and a great pairing for ice cream.

Suanthai Buffet Smile Aug 10, 2012

The salad and dessert section was self service.
*Thai style chicken satay was tender and juicy. Each a stick and it was really well seasoned that we wanted more.
*Stir fried mixed seafood with basil & long beans arrived and we felt like we ordered a 'cze char' dish. It was simple and yet delicious, especially when the ingredients were fresh.
Rice cracker that were supposed to go with a special sauce. We made a mistake and used that sauce for our stuffed
chicken wings instead! Anyway, we went to dip this cracker into the green curry as it was rather tasteless by itself.
Pineapple fried rice was really tasty and we ordered 2 plates of it. There were pineapple cubes and spices which added
flavour to the rice. This was my first time eating rice in a buffet. (I usually avoided rice as it was meant to fill people up
quickly.)
*Tom Yam soup with prawns was a dish that we did not enjoy. Firstly, this harmless clear looking soup was really super
spicy and I coughed after drinking a mouthful. Try it if you enjoy spicy.
*Boneless stuffed chicken wings was one of our favourite. These thick looking wings looked really satisfying even
before I tried one. Before I knew it, I bit into the thick fleshy meaty piece. Beneath the charred skin were stuffed minced
meat I supposed. This was what I called meat extension!
Thai Fish Cake was just average to us. A little too hard and spicy for me.
Thai Spring Roll was not too bad. I treated it as a snack.
*Chicken wrapped in pandan leaf was another really yummy dish. I think that we enjoyed all the 3 1-time-order-only
chicken dishes the most! Juicy, tender and infused with pandan fragrance and flavor.
Green Curry with chicken was a common Thai dish. Luckily it was not spicy and we managed to clear it up.
With so much food, we needed a cool palate cleanser and each of us topped up $3.50 for free flow of lime juice. It was really a refreshing drink (not too sour and it did not make my saliva sticky after drinking).
Chicken with basil leaf and eggplant. This dish as well as the following few felt like 'cze char' too. Nothing bad about
them and we just wiped them up.
Chicken with cashew nuts was rather simple. We did not order any beef as Nyx could not eat due to religion.
Penang curry with sliced fish fillets. Each slice was coated evenly with the thick curry sauce, making the taste strong and
flavourful.
Deep fried fish fillets with sweet, sour and spicy sauce. A typical Chinese style dish I supposed.
The Thai red ruby and just so-so. I found the ice too coarse and the chestnuts were too large in size.

Skk ordered the Grilled Fillet of Fish with Salmon Mousse. At first, it was the first thing that caught my attention too, but
luckily I changed my mind. The fish had a slight fishy smell and the flesh was not tender enough. We did not know
about the mousse part until Skk pulled open the centre. (We did not read the menu thoroughly) The mousse was creamy
and went well with the fillet. Surprisingly for a non-vegetables eater like Skk, finished up almost all the vegetables. Either
the vegetables were soaked with the sweet sauce that made him eat or, like me, eats vegetables only in more 'atas' place.

As for me, I ordered the Xpresso Baby Pork Ribs, which was a recommended dish. I was a little reluctant to take ribs as I
thought that ribs would not be filling at all, but it turned out likewise. The ribs was well flavoured evenly, reeking of a
fragrant coffee and charred taste which I enjoyed. A slow food works well when you want to have a catching up session
as you can slowly 'clean up' each rib bones individually (while your friend had to watch you after he finishes his food).
The meat was also tender and not so stick-to-the-bone. My ribs also have a side serving of potato wedges and coleslaw and salad. The coleslaw was quite sour but still tolerable. The wedges were fragrant and tasted not too bad to me while Skk loved it so much that he kept praising it.

My dad order his grilled fish set and his chawanmushi came the first. I have always liked the silky and custard-like
texture of chawanmushi. Grilled fish was never my liking as I always thought that the fish meat would always be hard. I was
wrong this time as the meat was rather tender and fragrant, without any hint of being burnt.
My mum ordered this special ramen. The bowl was rather interesting as from the top view, we could not see the ramen at
all. All we could see was a rather thick broth with crab meat, spring onions, mushrooms and traces of oil. The noodles
were hidden at the base and it felt like eating ramen from a shark's fin soup. Both my brother and I order the black pig don set. Uncover the pile of eggs on top and you will be amazed by the quantity of black pig meat. The meat were thick and fragrant and coated by a casing of crispy flour. I really loved chewing the meat and it sure tasted better than the first time I had eaten black pig from another restaurant. At the end of the meal, each of us were given some complimentary slices of fruits and a warm cup of brown rice tea. The tea had an earthy flavour and it was said that it would aid in our digestion.
