Coca Steamboat Buffet Smile Aug 12, 2012

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hot Pot | Buffet | Kids-Friendly

Of course the first thing I took picture of was the sauce! It was set nicely on the table for each of us in the private room.
Lucky we had the private room as it was more comfortable and we had more privacy. If your common sense seems to lag,
you will know that we can be very noisy and vulgar (army style). Anyway, back to the sauce, typical Thai style, mild
spiciness with plenty of chopped parsley. I dipped everything into it before eating as it just tasted so good! Worked
especially well as gravy over the noodles too.
Our steamboat pots were arranged in the form of a Bermuda Triangle. (2 chicken stock and 1 Tom Yam) Like the actual
Bermuda Triangle, almost everything that went into those pots to cook, would disappear into our stomach. Sadly except
for those meatballs (shrimp, beef or chicken), they had magnetic field problems which our stomachs repelled. (Explanation later!) We ordered a few rounds of ingredient to add into our 'Bermuda Triangle'. Although the variety was not a lot, it was counter-balanced by the freshness of the ingredients. Time for the meatballs part. Seeing this picture was enough to make me wanting to puke. Not sure why but these meatballs left the most memorable impression for us. We ordered too many of them and ended up for the last half an hour, we had plenty of meatballs in the pots. I myself ate more than 10 of them and totally did not want any more to appear in front of my eyes.

Fancy Delight ($1) Smile Aug 12, 2012   (Related Review)

Not quite sure what time the discount actually starts but the egg tarts were going off for $1 each. They were going off fast!
I managed to buy the last piece of kaya and the apple cinnamon egg tarts. The other 2 were original and which people
were less interested in. (The flavours really enhanced the taste!) The kaya was rather strong and fragrant that it
overwhelmed the taste of the egg. As for the apple cinnamon, it was rather subtle, more soothing to my taste buds,
especially when it was consumed right after it was taken out of the refrigerator. Mentioning about being chilled, these
egg tarts had a cheesy texture and mouth-feel that in confusion, for a moment, I thought that I was eating cheese!

Although the cake was simple, I like it very much. (Sometimes simplicity can be the best!) The
pandan and kaya combination went rather well together, emerging as one unique taste. They were like 2 ores, alloying
together to form a stronger material. (I must have played too much games in the past) Another thumbs up was because
of the alternating layers of sponge and pudding-like kaya, it did not contain any cream! (Do not count the decorations
on its surface; I did not like cream.)
Mum loves coffee and I have already guessed beforehand that she would order the coffee cake. Coffee sponge with
coffee flavoured cream. Everything about it was just coffee. I still preferred my pandan kaya cake!

Egg tarts Smile Aug 12, 2012

My friend choose the green tea and orange chocolate while I choose the double chocolate and durian! Look at the shape of
these egg tarts, so different from the normal ones. They looked like little flower pots filled with egg custards. The egg
custards were really soft and yummy! We split all 4 into halves so that we could share all the flavours. The green tea flavour was the tart itself. The egg custards in the double chocolate and orange chocolate were flavoured with chocolate and orange respectively and as for the durian, real fillings! Our favourite was the durian egg tart. I did not make the wrong choice as before I actually ordered it, I went to ask the sales assistant if the durian was only the flavour. She said no and I ordered it straight away. I felt the real durian flesh at the base as I ate it. Just do not use too much force when you hold your little 'flower pots' as they were either quite fragile or I used too much force.

Crab Shack Again Smile Aug 10, 2012   (Related Review)

The 2 bowls of mushroom soup which we redeemed was not the creamy sort and I liked mushroom soup having its
original grayish-brownish colour. The soup itself felt diluted but the taste was still somehow there. Their baked crab Au gratin really looked so tempting and we both decided to order one each! (We were risking our luck, hoping that it would taste good.) Luckily, it did not disappoint us. Underneath the cheesy layer laid a creamy mixture of crab meat! It made a nice snack while we chit-chat and waited for our other dishes to arrive. It was a little too filling though! We ordered repeated dishes, and the main course which was crab meat spaghetti was free as we hit the 10th stamp! We still loved the cheese and mayo fries due to its generous serving size as compared to KFC or Long John Silver. Last but not least, their soft shelled crab we ordered the previous time which I missed out posting, was one of our wanna-eat-more dish. With mayo as a dip and sprinkled with chicken floss for added sweetness, it was indeed crispy and I could feel the small amount of crab flesh within the shells.
