Rochor Original Beancurd You Tiao OK Aug 10, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Multi-Concept | Desserts and Cakes

My friend and I ordered a you tiao and it was rather crispy and expanded-looking. I tried eating it with the cold beancurd and
they did not go well together. Normally people would dip it into hot soya bean milk so that it would not feel so dry. We both had the cold beancurd as that day the weather was rather humid and hot. It was soft and silky and it went down our throat easily. Not a perfect dessert if you wanted to take your own sweet time. I noticed that the syrup used was orangy in colour (why??). I was glad that it was not overly sweet too.

Hua Nam Restaurant Smile Aug 10, 2012

Lks and I decided to meet up for breakfast at around 10am. I seldom want to wake up that early but sometimes the early bird catches the worm. For this case, this small and squeezy coffee shop that is located along the streets of Upper Thomson is often crowded during breakfast period. We reached the coffeeshop and started ordering dim sums. Besides dim sums, this place also have cze char and roasted meats.
I found the char siew pao not too bad. If the flour was thinner, it would be just nice for me.
I ordered this soup dish as I think that at least with soup around, it would not be too dry. It was more like a giant shui
gao and it tasted meaty with crunchy bits of water chestnuts inside.
'Har gao' was nice and quite moist. It was one of my favourite dim sums.
The xiao long pao was different. For those who loves soupy xiao long pao, you will be disappointed as they don't
contain any soup inside. I supposed they were meant to be dry.
I found the siew mai too dry and not 'juicy' enough. I did not feel any pieces of prawn inside while chewing them.
I liked juicy mushrooms. If you are not a fan of it like Lks, don't order.
Inside the soft skin was a chunk of meat. Basically, most dishes we ordered had meat in them (should be the same meat),
but tasted slightly different from each other.
The fried dumplings were too dry for us. We just have to dip them into the chilli sauce and they tasted better.
Lor mai kai disgusted me. Not that it tasted horrible (Lks thought that it was not bad), it freaking reminded me of my army
cookhouse food (breakfast). I think I had generated a phobia for lor mai kai because of the stupid cookhouse, and I got
nausea whenever I see one.
For drinks, we both ordered the home-made barley. We both felt that drinking barley while eating dim sums was a total mismatch (like drinking sake while eating laksa). The barley was thick and had plenty of barley bits blended inside (like 'cum' from a male's reproductive organ).

IKEA Restaurant Smile Aug 10, 2012

One of the most common dish ordered was the fried chicken wings. Ocf and I ate 2 each while Wll and Wcy ate 1 each. I
found it rather oily and I followed Wcy wiped off the oil before eating! Ocf on the other hand ignored the oil and just
enjoyed it. Crispy! I could say that IKEA's most popular dish was the meatballs. We ordered 40 meatballs and each of us had 10 balls each! These meatballs were deprived of sauce and we had to ask for 2 cups of extra sauce. Chunks of potatoes were also served with the meatballs and they were soft and easy to eat. (We ordered the halal meatballs which was available in this IKEA.) I found the sauce too diluted and watery. The sauce could not even 'cling' onto the meatballs and would drip off quickly. There were also lingonberry jam given with the meatballs. Wll and Wcy found it weird eating the meatballs with jam. I enjoyed the mild sweetness of the jam which made the meatballs more savoury. After chatting for over 3 hours, the place was still crowded. We decided not to leave this place yet without trying the desserts. As girls are afraid to get fat, they shared this chocolate slice. As for Ocf and I, we ordered all 3 slices of pie. Wll and Ocf preferred this the most as maybe the chocolate felt thick and 'shiok'. Wcy and I preferred this nutty slice with strong butterscotch taste. The strong fragrance of the butterscotch made me addicted and wanting for more. If you want something less sinful, you could go for this. Apple pie! The chunks of apple would make apple lovers drool. We should have eaten this first before eating the other two pies as it felt tasteless with our mouths overwhelming with chocolate and butterscotch sweetness.

Ramen Ten Cry Aug 10, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen | Kids-Friendly

I tried the spicy salmon ramen and the spicy level was just right for me (no excessive perspiration). The salmon was
minced and had a slight fishy taste which demoralised me a little.
Lzw had the teriyaki beef ramen which looked not too bad. The soup had the beef taste.
Hzy had the spicy miso chicken ramen. Nothing special anyway.
Swj had the spicy chicken karaage ramen. The soup was already spicy, but not spicy enough for him. He spammed the
spices which caused me to cough upon drinking it.
Cql had the japanese curry katsu dry ramen. This was the only dry ramen dish among the 6 of us. Being dry has its own
tastiness. Surprisingly, it was rather tasty.
Gbk had the oyaku chicken ramen, which was an almost non-spicy dish. Soup should be those normal type, with the
added flavor of the chicken in it.

My dad order his grilled fish set and his chawanmushi came the first. I have always liked the silky and custard-like
texture of chawanmushi. Grilled fish was never my liking as I always thought that the fish meat would always be hard. I was
wrong this time as the meat was rather tender and fragrant, without any hint of being burnt.
My mum ordered this special ramen. The bowl was rather interesting as from the top view, we could not see the ramen at
all. All we could see was a rather thick broth with crab meat, spring onions, mushrooms and traces of oil. The noodles
were hidden at the base and it felt like eating ramen from a shark's fin soup. Both my brother and I order the black pig don set. Uncover the pile of eggs on top and you will be amazed by the quantity of black pig meat. The meat were thick and fragrant and coated by a casing of crispy flour. I really loved chewing the meat and it sure tasted better than the first time I had eaten black pig from another restaurant. At the end of the meal, each of us were given some complimentary slices of fruits and a warm cup of brown rice tea. The tea had an earthy flavour and it was said that it would aid in our digestion.
