Strawberry strudel Smile Aug 25, 2013

Categories : Bakery

This shop has been around for a long time but it's my first time dining in, instead of takeaway. For a change, I had strawberry strudel ($5.60) to share with my friend. It's quite a huge slice, and instead of the usual apple cubes, this one was strawberry halfs! The sweetness of the cream and the sourness of the strawberries make a good combination, pretty much like the apple strudel. The downside is that it's quite hard to eat it without the strawberries squeezing out whenever I tried to cut into the strudel. The crust is really crunchy and flaky, as such, it's quite a mess eating it. Nevertheless, it's still a good eat! Good to share, because it's a really big slice for $5.60!

There are not many seats inside as the shop is small, so you might have to sit outside. You have to order inside and they will send the strudels to you!

Fishball noodles Smile Aug 25, 2013
Categories : Coffeeshop | Noodles

This bowl of noodles has small to medum sized prawns with fish cakes and beansprouts. Considering the portion and ingredients, I personally find that $3 is worth it. The beansprout is very fresh, unlike at some places where beansprout appears flat and lack of crunchiness, their beansprout is crunchy and nice. The prawn shells are already peeled, leaving only prawn head for you to peel. It's quite hassle-free for people who don't like to peel their prawns! Their fishcake is definitely one of the best that I've ever tasted. The fish cake is well fried, you can taste the fragrance of the skin with little fishy smell! The portion of noodles was sufficient and filling. I would say the only thing that have room for improvement is their soup base which was quite average, not much flavour. But for $3? This bowl of noodles is definitely worth it because of the ingredients used.

Shepherd's pie OK Aug 25, 2013

Categories : Café

It’s surprisingly quite empty even during dinner hours and everywhere else was crowded so we decided to settle for dinner there!

I ordered The Craft Shepherd’s Pie ($14) because it has a recommended sign beside and I really wanted to have some meat for dinner. The shepherd’s pie consists of mashed potato on top and minced beef below. It makes quite a good combination for the first few mouthful but subsequently I got sick of it as there’s too much beef. The mashed potato was good though, not too wet or too dry. The salad that comes with it was quite normal, not plated very nicely and not much dressing. I was pretty much just eating the vegetables on its own.

I would recommend "The Craft Sandwich ($11.50)" which I saw my friend eating, it’s waffles with bacon in between. I think it’s the nicest dish of the night! No GST or service charge, the price on the menu is what you have to pay only. Plain water are complimentary, self service.

Overall, we didn’t really have a great dinner there. I supposed The Craft is better for its coffee, sandwiches and cakes, mains are not their speciality.

Pita Smile Aug 25, 2013   (Related Review)

Categories : Portuguese | Steaks and Grills

I decide not to order the usual 1/4 chicken that I usually order but got chicken breast fillet pita ($13.90 with 2 sides) instead! My sides were wedges and coleslaw. Other than pita, I could have picked from burger or wrap. I’m quite pleased about my choice of pita. It's so nice! It’s like a bread which is very soft and very easy to bite down. The pita was wrapped with 4 small chicken fillets with lots of greens inside like tomato cubes, vegetables. The pita was also lined with Nando’s special mayonnaise sauce and all these really made a good combination. The only downside is that, it’s hard to eat the pita on a whole, I ate my meat and pita separately because everything fell out the moment I tried to cut into half. The wedges were really crisp and good! As for the coleslaw, it’s not too bad but abit too dry.

My second time there, the service still hasn’t improved much. There was no refill of water but there weren’t any signs of Nando’s being understaffed despite being 80% full. And we had to go to the counter to pay for our bill in order to expedite the process, else I guess we would have to wait really long. Good food but lacking in service. If you're looking for something different, do try pita!

Pepperoncino bacon spaghetti Smile Aug 25, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | Middle Eastern/Mediterranean | European | Pasta | Steaks and Grills

I ordered the Pepperoncino bacon spaghetti ($4.9). Just a warning: this dish is not suitable for people who dislike garlic. With a similar frying style to aglio olio, you can also see this dish as “bacon aglio olio”. Saizeriya offers the cheapest spaghetti and Italian food in Singapore. This dish was fried with garlic, chilli and bacon. Although it's a little oily to me, but the spiciness of it is just right for people who don't have high tolerance of spicy food. The bacon is quite little but for $4.90, I've no complaints about this dish. Service was efficient, I got my food within 10mins of ordering!
