disappointing! Cry Aug 21, 2012

Categories : Roasted Meat

After feeding on kenny rogers for many years, this is the first time i am writing a review for the restaurant. One word summaries my experience of the many restaurants dotted around our little island. "Inconsistent". Well i guess inconsistent is better than terrible right, so at times it is not too bad. Anyway the experience here was bad. Chicken was served cold, the skin was stripped off the chicken. The thigh was dry and tasteless. One might have mistaken it for chicken breast if you ate with a blindfold. The best part of the meal unfortunately has never been the chicken but the baked beans. I love kenny rogers baked beans, not sure what goes in the sauce, but it sure is different from the usual beans, very tasty, not too salty. In fact it goes well with the muffins. Okay i know it is gross, but really both actually is a strange complement of each other. Usually i would have 2 servings ofe baked beans but for the first time i decided to go with the chicken vegetable soup, it was alright. Ironically the worse part of the meal is the chicken!

not so good Cry Aug 21, 2012

Had groupon vouchers for gurney drive/culture, so here we are. Difference between gurney culture and gurney drive is that the former is halal unlike the latter. We had the penang laksa which unfortunately came out luke warm. Would have preferred it serve hot. There was not enough sardines in the penang laksa, which was a pity. The prawn noodles was also mediocre, i thought the taste of the yellow noodles was too pungent, too alkaline. Again the noodles was served lukewarm. Char kway teow was okay, not fantastic, just edible. The other side dishes we ordered were penang rojak, chicken ngoh hiang and kang kong cuttlefish. The rojak was probably the redeeming factor of the dinner, the rest were all poorly executed.

I had higher expectations Cry Jul 30, 2012

Hmmm this is one those breakfast stalls that i frequent. It used to be much better when it first started, standards however ard dropping. Maybe it is a sunday thing, but what happens is that the carrot cake a pre-fried. When i ordered (not the first time) my black carrot cake, instead of seeing it being fried on the spot, it was already pre fried and placed in a packet. All the guy said was, 'We just fried this.' I dont care whether he just tried or tried 10minutes ago, the fact is that the carrot cake was no longer warm when we open up the packet. Sighh what a disappointment, what a waste of my calories. I should have order the 'white' version which he was currently frying. K so i guess warning... place your orders depending on what he is frying at the moment.
To reiterate... It used to be much much better....

Oh in case anyone is curious about the price, it is $2.50

was much better Cry Jul 28, 2012

This was the matrix from 7th heaven. Those were the days when seventh heaven was much much better. Anyway it was a hideout for my friend and I, just the two of us would be able to polish off the matrix. So whats the matrix, it is a platter of 12 scoops of ice creams. They still do serve the matrix but it is more expensive and you could no longer choose the flavours. Okie then again in the past we were not suppose to choose flavours but because we were there so often that we got acquitted with the people there and thus had the privilege of choosing the flavours. Now that it has expanded, the place has become more impersonal.
So conclusion, 7th heaven is no longer worth the calories. While they used to be well known for the alcoholic ice-cream, the alcohol content in the present day ice cream had be reduced tremendously, probably making it more kid friendly but less welcoming for adults.

Eewww Yucks Cry Jul 26, 2012

huffy Horrible horrible horrbile! Three words to describle the burger here! Tasted very artifical, whatever meat patties they used for the burger it was gross. Very dry, tough and tasted very strange. Sort of had a rubbery, plastic taste to it. Te towering burger looks pleasant on the eyes though. But please stay away from this.

If you must come to Mad Jack, stick to safer options like the chicken chop. It is not fantastic but well... edible.
