Hard Rock Cafe celebrates World Burger Month with a exclusive food and beverage menus, available only from today till 30th June. This year, Hard Rock chefs around the world were given the freedom to create burgers that captures the flavours of their city and after reviewing more than 160 burgers, Hard Rock Cafe Sentosa will be offering 4 scrumptious varieties.
Diners can anticipate high quality meats (certified Angus Beef patty, no less), fresh toppings, delicious sauces and rich, melted cheese, and pillowy buns. Let’s start off with something close to our hearts, shall we?
The Satay Burger ($25) features distinct local flavours rendered by the sweet Asian peanut sauce, as well as crunchy cucumber planks, arugula and sriracha mayonnaise for texture and hints of spicy oomph. Take one firm bite and savour the blend of flavours. Yummsss!
A burger (looks more like a sandwich to me though) that won’t look out of place at breakfast, lunch or dinner, the Golden Gate Burger ($27) is constructed with sliced salami, grilled onions, gooey Swiss cheese and pickles and thousand Island dressing, sandwiched between crusty sourdough. An appetizing burger thanks to the piquant, peppery flavours.
The Giardiniera Deli Burger ($30) is a glorious stack of beef patty, sliced roast beef (yes, MORE beef), roasted red pepper, giardinera pepper and melted provolone cheese. I can see this being a hit with carnivores!
Filled with all the good things from fried mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, sautéed mushrooms and pizza sauce, the massive Big Little Italy Burger ($27) will definitely gratify the growling tummy. Highly recommended!
To complement the delectable burgers, Hard Rock Cafe Sentosa also offers a range of appealing cocktails, perfect for winding down after a long after long, hectic day. There’s no doubt that a hearty burger and some alcohol are instant mood lifters, so don’t miss the chance to check out the limited-time only menu, which will be available till 30th June 2016.

Ultimate Crab Feast 2016 Smile Jun 10, 2016

The popular Ultimate Crab Feast has returned to Plaza Brassiere at PARKROYAL on Beach Road for the 5th year and will be available till 26th June 2016. Fans of the crustacean can anticipate a tantalising line up of crabs, prepared in 8 different flavours, that will send you on a licking spree!
In addition to the 6 evergreen flavours, Executive Chef Jackson Goh introduces 2 new flavours this year- Spanish Crab and Mediterranean Crabs. I especially love the latter, where bold flavours and spicy notes enthral the taste buds.
Other perennial favourites include: Chilli Crabs, Cereal Crabs, Honey Rock Crab, White Pepper Crab, Black Pepper Crab and Salted Egg Yolk Crab.
My favourite was the robust White Pepper Crabs with the creamy Salted Egg Yolk Crabs, a close second.
I like how the crabs were fresh, meaty and succulent. If you’re the type that go for pincers, there’s no need to dig around for the prized body part as every chopped piece of crustacean has one.
For a taste of India, don’t miss the Roti Pratas, flipped a la minute, paired with Crab Meat Masala. Superb!
Apart from crabs, the buffet also offer the usual works such as:
Chilled Seafood with an assortment of sauces ranging from wasabi mayo, sweet Thai and Salted Egg Yolk.
Sashimi is cut only upon order, hence maintaining pristine freshness.
Cooked dishes are Asian delights such as Nonya Chap Chay, Lamb Curry, Nasi Briyani, Roasted Duck and Roasted Pork Belly. Children will enjoy the Tempura Prawns and Fried Chicken Tenders.
Head for the Noodle Live Station, where the chef whips up a mean Prawn Noodle Soup. The broth was soo good, I could not resist having a second helping.
Desserts are mostly revolved around Asian flavours, with some creative twists. The Peanut Mille Feuille was a standout, while the hazelnut obsessed will take comfort in the Hollandaise Nutella Tart.
Apart from confection, the buffet also offers an series of chilled shot glass desserts (my top pick is the Oreo one), as well as hot and chilled Asian desserts such as Bubur Pulut Hitam, Green Bean Soup, Red Bean Soup, Cheng Tng, Iced Jelly Peach and Chin Chow Lychee.
The Ultimate Crab Feast buffet is definitely worth the calories (AND cholesterol), plus, the best part is that it’s only $68++ for lunch (Sundays only) and $75++ for dinner (daily). What excellent value!

Black Rice Yummss Smile Jun 09, 2016

Opened by Michelin starred chef Carles Gaig, La Ventana is located in Singapore’s dining enclave, the tranquil Dempsey Hill. The restaurant offers traditional Catalan recipes that will evoke a sense of nostalgia to Catalans. Diners who are unfamiliar with the cuisine will be able to experience authentic Catalan fare at La Ventana.
La Ventana has an attractive indoor dining space, as well as enchanting alfresco set up with lush foliage as a backdrop.
To start, we had crusty baguette with light-textured olive oil produced in Spain, which can be purchased at La Ventana. Do note that the pictures in this blog post feature tasting portions.
Next, a trio of signature tapas was served. The Foie Gras Terrine Cookie ($18/4 pcs) was something new to me and I love how the flavours and textures, contrasted, yet worked harmoniously -savoury Foie gras terrine is sandwiched between flaky layers of puff pastry, then topped with sweet apple compote and red fortified wine. The crisps homemade Croquetas ($14/4 pcs) breaks open to reveal a creamy interior consisting of potato and roasted chicken, while the Cod Bunelos ($18/6pcs) core comprises of flaky snow-white flesh.
Prepared in accordance to Gaig family’s recipe which has been handed down for 4 generations, the Canelon Since 1869 ($26) is essentially rolls of pasta stuffed with seasoned beef and pork, then blanketed with oh-so-fragrant truffle cream.
While Canelon Since 1869 was good, it was overshadow by the Octopus ($32), paired with potatoes a dash of Spanish smoked paprika. I’m usually not a fan of the tentacled creature, but this slow roasted rendition won me over with its amazing tenderness. You’ve got to sink your teeth into this to understand what I mean!
At this point, the amicable Chef Gaig presented Black Rice ($38), an enticing dish of carnaroli rice infused with squid ink, and topped with fresh slipper lobster, clams and fish.
We also had the opportunity to sample a seasonal item, White Asparagus ($28) seasoned with white vinegar and Parmesan slices.
Our Catalan “Creme Brulee” ($14) is unlike any other crème brulee I’ve encountered-this has a dreamy texture that reminiscent of clouds. The layered sweet treat starts with a golden zesty syrup at the bottom, followed by a scoop of toffee ice cream, airy espuma, and finally, torched sugar. Excavate from bottom to the top, so that you can get all the components in one spoonful, then savour it slowly to appreciate the dessert’s intricacies.
On weekdays, take a break from the hectic office by indulging in an afternoon tea treat at La Ventana. The restaurant offers a 3-tiered Spanish afternoon tea set ($76++ for 2 pax), filled with freshly prepared canapés and dainty sweets.

For pictures and full review, pls visit:
http://madamechewy.com/2016/06/09/seorae/
Established in South Korean in 2007, Seorae has gone from strength to strength, with currently more than 260 outlets in Korea and other cities such as Tokyo, Jakarta and Hong Kong. Chef Chul Park, the Founder of Seorae, attributes the success in the highly competitive market of Korean BBQ, to the company’s basic philosophy of providing diners with the best quality ingredients and produce, while maintaining the art of Korean barbeque. Another unique aspect is that Seorae serves Galmaegisal, which translates to “skirt meat”, a cut with minimal amount of fat (great for waist-watchers) while possessing the perfect ratio of tenderness and juiciness. A fully-grown cow or pig only produces about 250g of such prized meat, which was in the past, was strictly reserved for Korean royalties. Now, you can savour Galmaegisal at Seorae Singapore, located conveniently at Plaza Singapura.
Despite it being a weekday, there was a queue already forming at Seorae’s entrance during dinnertime.
Ease into the evening with some alcoholic beverages. Have some fun and action with the Soju Bombs ($20/2 glasses, $29/4 glasses, $39/6 glasses, $49/8 glasses) or for something refreshing and also great for sharing, go for the Watermelon Soju ($25.90) or 5-in-1 Makkoli Mix ($39.90) which comprises of Blue Hawaii, Green Apple, Lychee, Mango and Strawberry flavours (also available individually at $12.90).
Seorae’s signature Galmaegisal is available for individual order or as a platter. For first-timers, I recommend going for the combination platter, so you can sample all 3 different marinades. The King Galmaegisal 3 in 1 ($29.90/270g, $49.90/ 500g) comprises of US pork skirt-meat marinated with Korean spices, Spicy Galmaegisal and Garlic Soy-sauce Galmaegisal. My favourite was the lattermost, which was beautifully flavoursome and tender. Only charcoal is used for grilling, which gives the meats an additional dimension of flavour.
A close second is the Wagyu Jinkkotsal ($37.90), which melts in the mouth. Just look at that marbling! You’ve gotta be crazy to say no to this!
A must try is the complimentary Grilled Egg, which boast a silky texture. For more oomph and gooeyness , add in some cheese!
Apart from BBQ meats, Seorae also serves traditional Korean favourites such as Tofu Stew($14.90), Seafood Pancake ($17.90) and Kimchi Pancake ($17.90).
Round up your meal with Seorae’s tempting line up of Bingsoos. My top pick is the Cheese Bingsoo ($14.90), which features delicate savoury flavours from the cheese shavings, cheese sauce and cheese cake, balanced harmoniously with sweet notes from the Vanilla ice cream.
The Namdaemun Bingsoo ($12.90) was also superb, and will definitely satisfy those who like a dash of alcohol and coffee in their dessert. Another strong contender is the Matcha Patbingsoo ($9.90) where bitter green tea ice cream contrasts with adzuki, heightened by crunchy cornflakes.

http://madamechewy.com/2016/05/15/man-fu-yuan-dim-sum/
One can’t help but feel cheery upon stepping into InterContinental’s Man Fu Yuan. Unlike most Chinese restaurants decked in dark woods, reds and golds, Man Fu Yuan has romantic yet nostalgic interiors of Peranakan louvered windows shutters, butterfly chandeliers, oriental lattices in light woods and velvet lavender seats. One of the more chic Chinese restaurants, I must say.
Even the fine tableware matches the restaurant’s theme! Now, onto the food. We welcomed the amuse bouche, refreshing Drunken Chicken atop Winter Melon marinated in Orange Juice, with much enthusiasm as we were starving and it took quite awhile for the dim sum to be served as they are only cooked upon order.
Minced Pork Dumpling with Scallops ($6.80/3 pcs). Siew Mai alone is oooo, with scallop, I’d be all ahhhh…Man Fu Yuan also aced the Traditional Prawn Dumpling ($6.80/3 pcs) , which was delectable. Crunchy, juicy prawns bundled up in thin, semi-translucent skin. So, so difficult to resist!
The Honey-glazed Pork Buns ($5.20/3 pcs) scored points for its on-the-spot-sweetness and chunky, tender meat, while the our tongues revelled in the smooth texture of Rice Roll with Fresh Prawns and Yellow Chives ($8.80).
The ooze game is strong in the Steamed Salted Egg Custard Bun ($12/6 pcs). Thumbs up for its fluffy exterior and rich salted egg yolk flavour. Just when you thought that life can’t get any better, Man Fu Yuan raises the bar further with a deep fried rendition! The Deep-fried Salted Egg Custard Bun ($12/6 pcs) is undeniable decadent but, worth every calorie!
Bean Curd Skin Roll with Shrimps ($6.80/3 pcs) didn’t make a memorable impression but was overall alright. The Radish Cake with Preserved Meat ($5.20/ pcs) fared better. The smooth and soft radish cake was generously studded with Chinese Sausage which added textural variation, as well as punches of savoury flavour.
Don’t miss the lusciously smooth congee, which is available with a variety of ingredients-Fish($8), Minced Pork with Century Egg ($8), Seafood ($12) and Bird Nest with Dried Scallops($32).
At the end of the meal, the staff served complimentary mini glasses of Sour Plum Juice, which did a great job of cleansing our palates.
At Man Fu Yuan, you can feel a lot of attention does into every item to offer, plus, their ingredients, execution and service is top-notch. One note to keep in mind though-because the items are freshly cooked, do try to order everything you want at the start of the meal. We ordered the radish cake halfway through our lunch and had to wait 30 minutes for it to be served.
For those who like buffets, Man Fu Yuan offers a la carte Dim Sum Buffet Brunch on weekends at $58++ per adult and $28++ per child.
