Located along Seah Street, this is one brunch spot that that’s absolutely stellar! I recommend going for the set brunch ($35++) which includes a main, dessert and beverage. Do note that a top up of $5 is required for Fully Loaded and Cow’s Nightmare, and $15 for the lobster croissant. There’s no skimping on serving portions for the set brunch, making this an excellent, value for money option.
An insta-worthy dish, The Lobster ($36) impressed both in terms of presentation and flavors. Hubbed between a buttery croissant are generous chucks of succulent lobster, lush scrambled eggs and bacon. Its sidekick, mesclun tossed with truffle honey vinaigrette was superb as well.
Another item that captured our hearts was the 62 °C Egg ($19). Sautéed wild mushroom lie on a bed of velvety truffle mash, and is accompanied with a sensuous sous vide egg gently placed in the centre. In addition, prosciutto and seasonal truffle slices lend punches of contrasting flavours, whilst edible flowers add a dash of attractive colours to the otherwise earthy colour palette.
We wrapped up the meal with French Toasts. I’ve always liked French Toasts. Comfort food! With truffle, even better! Bridge’s Truffle Honey French Toast ($18) charmed with its sweetness balanced with a savory edge. The salted milk ice cream had the uncanning ability to bring out the truffle notes from the truffle honey. This is a unique French toast creation that should not be missed!
We also had Espresso ($4.50) and Matcha Latte ($6.50), which we found too subtle.
Service wise, the staff were friendly, prompt in responding to our requests and refilling our water glasses. Overall, we had a fantastic brunch experience at Bridge and would highly recommend it. Lobster Croissant portions are limited, hence do write a note in the remarks section so that the staff can set one aside for you when booking via HungryGoWhere.

Meatless cuisine goes luxe at Joie by Dozo, a restaurant located on the roof top garden of Orchard Central. The plates offered here will change the most common conception of vegetarian cusine. My dining companion (who’s vegetarian) and I were blown away by the presentation the execution of the dishes. This was our first encounter with vegetarian fine dining in Singapore.
The elaborate menu, filled with attractive descriptions, makes one desire many dishes. Go for the set menu, which allows one to sample a myriad of creations for $38.80++ (6-course lunch) or $68.80++ (7-course dinner).
The restaurant is decked out in a contemporary fashion in grey and champagne tones. Once we settled down in the comfy armchairs, the staff handed us a fancy embossed menu and proceeded to recommend the signature dishes.
Complimentary Pastry Sticks and Passion Fruit Smoothie. Do wait for the ice to melt a little before sipping the refreshing beverage.
The Chef Platter comprises of a trio of intriguing bites. We were advice to being with the middle item, Carrot Terrine with Seaweed. The smoothness and appearance of the carrot terrine reminds me of smoked salmon. Pop the Raspberry Sphere into your mouth and enjoy the burst of sweet juices. Finally, we munched on the Seaweed Cracker, jazzed up with Shimeiji Mushroom and wasabi.
A play on crispy and soft textures, the Tempura Platter on Mash consists of charcoal coated yam, eggplant, apple, and banana, brightening up with orange sesame dressing.
The Matsutake Cake exudes an earthy aroma, courtesy of the steamed Japanese Mushroom. The rosemary gel, crème patisserie and pistachio crumbs add an interesting dimension to the dish.
Vegetarian Sashimi? I thought my ears failed me! Joie’s Vegetable Sashimi on ice with Quail Egg Glass Shooter is presented just like regular sashimi, however, the ingredients in focus are thinly sliced coconut, konjac, aloe vera and pear, while blueberry pearls represent caviar.
Structured in a striking manner, the Zucchini Tower, accompanied with beetroot sphere, is sure to catch your attentive even from afar. The zucchini tower is stuffed with crème cheese, truffle mayo and finished off with a medallion of puff pastry. Flavours are delicately light in this dish, and I could hardly detect truffle.
Ordering mushroom soup amongst other soups is a no brainer for me. The Infusion of Cepes and Truffle was a great choice! The mushroom soup was perfumed with white winter truffle oil and black truffles. We found the robust flavors and truffle notes irresistible and slurped it down to the very last drop. Soul-warming!

Both of us had mushrooms, which are loaded with nutrients to help boats energy and repair cells, for our main courses. The Bai-Ling Steak on “Pu-Ye” Hot Stone arrived sputtering, with a train of smoke lingering in its trail. Aside from its gobsmacking presentation of the mushroom steak, tempura fan (angel hair pasta) and creamy mash, what took my breath away was how juicy and delectable the mushroom steak was. Even though the Bai Ling mushroom packed a punch when dipped into the accompanying mustard sauce, it was well-seasoned hence, delicious even on its own.

The dessert we tried, Warm Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream was in line with the high standards demonstrated by the savouries. The molten lava is smooth and intense!

Sip on Joie’s captivating concoction of beverages for a relaxing finale to the meal. Both the Ice Mallow Apple Melody (blend of mallow flowers, apple and guava juice) and Ice Fruity Refresher (blend of assorted fresh fruits) were equally delightful.

Joie by Dozo is exceptional in aesthetics, taste and execution. We’ve gotta hand it to the chefs and friendly staff for the one-of-a-kind dining experience.

Café by day and restaurant at night, Symmetry’s offering are inspired by Australian casual dining culture and French cuisine. Brunch plates here exemplify timeless comfort.
The venue is very small and was so packed during the weekends, so much so that I was unable to take any nice pictures of the space. Generally, the vibes are good. Expect rustic, slightly uncoordinated decor, loud music, noisy chatter and energetic, efficient staff.
Dull in presentation but not in taste, the Crisps Baby Squid ($17) is one of the better ones I’ve tried in recent memory. Perfectly fried and well-seasoned, the crisp batter gave way to chewy baby squids. Dip it into the accompanying black pepper aioli for optimum enjoyment.
Symmetry is well-known for their truffle fries and I’m glad to say that they did not disappoint. The Potato Fries ($15) with truffle oil emulsion emanates an earthy aroma, and rewards the palate with a depth of flavors that made me want to chase every bite with another. The portion is generous, good for sharing between 3-4 diners but for 2 people it’s simply too much (hubby and I were struggling to finish them). Wished Symmetry made these fries available in small and large sizes.
Everything is better with an egg on it, unfortunately for us, the sous vide style eggs in The Flan ($24) failed to flow as they were overcooked. The combination of melt-in-the-mouth Berkshire pork cheek, mushroom ragout, low temperature eggs, soubise sauce, mashed potatoes, pommery mustard and argula makes for an atypical brunch treat, a welcomed change from predictable brunch dishes.
I was craving for something sweet and Symmetry Waffles ($16) caught my eye. Stacked aesthetically, the waffles are spruced up with summer berries compote, peanut butter, hazelnut, maple syrup, Chantilly cream and berries ice cream. The waffles themselves were good- the exterior brown and crisps while the insides remain moist and plush. Satisfaction guaranteed!
Although prices veer towards the higher end, the ingredient quality, creativity and execution is worth the price tag. IMHO, Symmetry is one of the better brunch destinations in Singapore.

JPOT, part of the Jumbo Group, was founded in 2009 and in my opinion, is one of the best steamboat restaurants in Singapore. Even though Hai Di Lao service standards and frills are absent, service is nonetheless polite and efficient and the food standards are comparable.
JPOT employs the use of technology to speed things up and free staff for other tasks. When you arrive, get your queue number from an automated machine. A wait staff will lead you to your table once your number appears on the screen. Upon seated, you can proceed to browse and order from the electronic menu on the iPad affixed to each table. The system will calculate the total spending (excluding GST and service charge) which we find helpful to curb overspending due to over-zealous ordering.
Condiments are displayed a la buffet style and include chilli padi, fried garlic, fresh garlic, ground peanut, roasted sesame, chilli oil, garlic oil, sha cha sauce, sesame oil, sesame peanut sauce, garlic chilli sauce, soya sauce, Chinese parsley, spring onion and leek.
What we like about Jpot is how hygienic everything is- individual pots and thongs are provided for each diner. Unlike large sharing pots where you can opt for 2 soup bases, at JPOT, you only get one. However, with individual pots, you have total control, and do not have to coordinate cooking times with your dining companions. Soup base choices include Superior broth, herbal bak ku teh, silky porridge, laksa, tom yam and vegetarian. I hope that they’ll have Mala soon!
The quality of the soup bases are excellent, and the ingredients sparkling fresh. I had the Herbal broth ($5.80), a calming, comforting soup with layered flavors. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive; we had Seaweed ($2.50) and Tang-O ($4.80).
Fishballs ($5), Sliced Toman Fish ($7.80), Vermicelli ($2) and Sea Cucumber ($9.80).
Grain-Fed Ribeye ($12.80) and Prawns ($10.80) deshelled and deveined for convenience.
Fried items and dim sums are also available to give your palate a break from hotpot food. Spinach Beancurd ($4.80) and Fried Shrimp Dumpling ($5.80) never fail to grace our table when we are at JPOT.
Not only does JPOT have a wide variety of offerings, the food is utterly scrumptious too! We could eat here again and again, without getting tired of it. To stretch your dollar, go for the set lunches which start from an incredible value-for-money $16.80++. The Vivocity outlet is particularly crowded on weekends, hence do make reservations well in advance!

http://madamechewy.com/2015/06/03/les-patisseries/
Les Patisseries is a French inspired cafe nestled under a HBD block about 7 minutes walk from Toa Payoh MRT. The premises itself is tiny but cosy. The bakery cafe does not accept reservations so do come early if you’d like to avoid queuing.
The brief menu is written on a chalkboard behind the counter and brunch is available from 8am to 3pm.
Instead of the usual muffin base, Les Patisseries Eggs Benedict ($11.90) is served with freshly backed mini croissants that won our hearts with its buttery flavour and flaky texture. The poached eggs, bacon and hollandaise sauce were decent but it was the amazing croissants that left and indelible impression.
Served on a black tile, the shoestring Garlic Fries ($7.50) were crisps and appealing.
Les Patisseries stand out from the crowd with its unusual waffle flavours, namely Hoffles and Waffle Ispaphan.
Hofffles ($9.90) is essentially Horlicks waffles. A familiar childhood favourite but uncommon flavour in the waffle-sphere, this is a must-try just because it’s so distinctive. Other reasons to check this out-buttery waffle with a crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior.
Taking inspiration from Pierre Hermes creation, Waffle Ispaphan ($12.90) is constructed with rose-flavoured waffles, raspberry sorbet, and pieces of raspberry and lychee. Although intriguingly unique, I was lukewarm towards this. While the waffle had lovely floral flavour and aroma, it’s texture was too limp and soggy.
Ah…salted caramel never fails to brighten my day. Les Patisseries does a meanSalted Caramel Waffle ($9.90) with an excellent balance of sweet and salty, teaming up with warm, crisp and buttery waffle. Definitely one of the better ones around!
Despite the long journey, I was glad I made the trip to try Les Patisseries. Thumbs up for the quality food and desserts, at wallet-friendly prices. You’ll be glad to know there’s no gst nor service charge.
