Visited The Drawing Room at St Regis Hotel with W and I for a drink; had to make use of my $50 beverage voucher from The Supper Club.

The Drawing Room is not a place for art or drawing, as most people may have assumed. From the 18th to the mid-twentieth century, the term drawing room was used to describe a room in a house where visitors are entertained. Located on the lobby of St Regis, the luxuriously decorated venue serves aromatic teas, gourmet coffee, and vintage champagnes. Milkshakes and fruit juices are also available.

I would describe the service at the The Drawing Room to be amiable and warm, but scarce, which is something I would not expect from a luxury 5 star hotel. It was almost full house, but there was only 2 staff on duty; not very good manpower management from St Regis hmph! It took ages for the waitresses to notice us and take our order. We even had trouble getting their attention and had to approach them to get another cup for W to try our teas.

TWG Vanilla Bourbon: Decaffeinated red tea from South Africa blended with sweet TWG vanilla. Can be served warm or iced at any time of the day, and is perfect for children as well. I expected the price to inflated, but was pleasantly surprised to see that it cost $12, which is roughly the same price one would pay for sipping tea in TWG salons. But I would recommend having tea in TWG Salons as The Drawing Room failed to let the tea steep long enough for flavors to be released before serving. Vanilla Bourbon tea is my favourite tea, I drank it numerous times at TWG Salons, Chihuly Lounge at Ritz Carlton and Tea Lounge at The Regent; The Drawing Room has done the worst job preparing the tea.

W ordered a $18 milkshake; we all waited in anticipation to be wowed by such an expensive milkshake. Well, sad to say that it was a great disappointment that it was a PLAIN and ORDINARY glass of milkshake. The ice cream used was Kapiti triple chocolate, a New Zealand company producing fine food such as cheese, ice cream, sorbet and yogurt. Kapiti ice creams has won numerous awards in The New Zealand Ice Cream Awards. Kapiti is expensive which is probably why the milkshake cost $18; none of us felt that the milkshake tasted fantastic though.Presentation shouted minimal effort, which kind of annoyed me as I expected better standards from St Regis.

Chilled out in Arteastiq new F&B establishment, Tea Bone China, on a Saturday afternoon. Tea Bone China opened it doors on the 2nd of August at Millenia walk and currently has opening special promotions. We enjoyed a $2 discount of a $11 ice tea set, which could be shared among 2 persons. The tea set includes either a hot pot of tea, or a vase of ice tea, plus a dim sum.

On weekdays, customers can look forward discounts on tea sets and hot pot lunches. (click on the link above to view pictures of the promotion)

Tea Bone China offers a wide variety of tea and also serves quite a number of cooked dishes: soups, hot pots, dim sum, appetizers and even peking duck.

Service was attentive; there were only 2 tables occupied. I held a menu that was sticky(yucks!); luckily I had wet tissues in my bag. Other than the sticky appetizer menu, everything else was pleasant; the ambiance along with the Shanghai-Tan music was perfect for sipping tea while chilling out.

Ice Pomelo Tea with Char Siew Sou. The tea was refreshing and the sugar level was just right, there was no need to add any of the additional syrup provided . Wished the straw was larger in diameter as sometimes the pomelo sacs get stuck at the bottom of the straw. Hubby and I were impressed with the Char Siew Sou, the filling was tasty and ample while the pastry buttery, soft and flaky.

Since Sheraton Towers Hotel’s Lobby Bar was having a 1 for 1 promotion for afternoon tea, I dropped by with K to give it a try.The Lobby Bar serves English Afternoon tea for $33++ per pax and Japanese Afternoon Tea for $39++ per pax. We paid about only about $19 each; very happy with the bargain!

The ambience was cosy and quiet, with ample space between each table for privacy, making it a perfect place to engage in long catch up sessions with girlfriends. Quality and variety of the food was satisfactory, for the amount we paid. The Manager provided good service; but the others were oblivious to customers waving for their attention.

As the portion of the afternoon tea set is quite filling, I suggest having a very light lunch before visiting. K was struggling to finish up her share of food.

http://madamechewy.wordpress.com/2012/08/14/centre-ps/

My MIL introduced me to Centre PS while I was scouting around for places to make my ROM cake. Her friend, who is(or maybe was) a food journalist from a local newspaper is a great fan and loyal customer of Pattisier Chef Steven Ong.

Centre PS, pronounced phonetically as Centre Piece (it took me ages to get this right, I kept saying P S) was started in 2007. Chef Steven Ong has an impressive resume; he has experience in leading pastry kitchens in Conrad Centennial and Intercontinental hotel, as well as representing Singapore in numerous regional and international pastry competitions.

Virginia was extremely helpful and patient while assisting with the process of choosing my ROM cake. Thumbs up for her personalized service!

Centre PS’s éclairs are to die for! They have set my benchmark for éclairs. Being extremely popular, they just fly off the shelves; I suggest calling 1 day in advance to place a reservation for these babies. All 3 flavors, namely chocolate, coffee and lemon were heavenly. In addition, they are rather dense, which means you are paying for solid stuff, not air.

Pisa cake: Pistachio biscuit layers with raspberry compote and vanilla bean bavaroise. I can never have enough of this. Sometimes I crave for heavy and rich cakes, but get sick of them after a few mouthfuls. Other times I fancy light and delicate cakes, but yet I don’t feel satisfied after finishing them. Pisa cake encompasses the best of both textures; not too heavy yet not too light with perfect amount of moisture and flavor to delight the most fussy tongues.

The patisserie offers customization for weddings, baby first month, cooperate functions etc etc.

I favor mini cakes over cupcakes as I find cupcakes less formal, more suitable for engagement parties. You can choose designs from a catalogue or sketch your own design.

To add a touch of glam to the garden ceremony, I chose 2 tier mini cakes. My apologies for the poorly taken picture; the actual colour of the cake is purple. Centre PS has a long list of pound cake flavors; I selected lemon, vanilla with chocolate chips and green tea.

Yan Ting, located on the second level of St Regis Hotel, is well known for serving the best dim sum in Singapore. The award winning establishment is one of the more authentic Cantonese restaurants providing diners with top notch fine dining experience. This is the to visit if you are looking to impress, or to savor dim sum delicacies.

Yan Ting’s divine dim sum and exquisite dishes were mind-blowing; we thoroughly enjoyed the food as well as the grandeur ambience.

Yan ting has ceased serving shark fin soup since July 2012 and replaced it with double boiled abalone with chicken soup.
