Was this the same store as the one in Toa Payoh market?

I decided to give it a try. There was after all, a queue. Typical Singaporean behaviour.

Skipped my usual ban mian and went for their sheng mian, dry. The three people in front of me all made orders for this.

So.. was it worth the leap of faith?

For $3, this was a substantial bowl of noodles. their mix of chilli sauce was a good flavour burst for the noodles. What I didn't like though, was their use of dark sauce that overwhelmed everything else and if you mixed it through, it'd make for a really unappetizing bowl of noodles.

Their noodles had a springy texture with a lot of bite. And i loved that they had prawns too. smile But this wasn't the same as the taste of the stall at toa payoh. I didn't want to ask though, seeing as how long the queue was.

The soup though, was what the noodles were cooked in and that was a bowl of alkali tasting starchy bowl of soup. skip that.

I'll be back to try out their ban mian.

Too many people at the food court it was just painful waiting for seats. so we went on over to the corner place for some bimbimbap loving.

this was $8.80 ++ for bimbimbap buffet. it sounded like... too much rice.

thankfully not so. a very patient filipino staff got ready our tables and explained what our buffet included. which was basically the cooked meats, fried glass noodles, prawn crackers and all their ban chan salads. Rice and seaweed soup too of course. smile

That's my round one and round two! The marinated meats are actually all really quite good. smile tender slices of pork chicken and beef. my favourite's the pork though. and i love their brilliantly green cucumber slices. perfect palate cleanser.

they also have preserved spicy radish cubes, kimchi, beanstrips, beansprouts with mushroom and raw lettuce. eating my greens smile

For $10.90 nett, the food isn't half bad considering a bowl of bimbimbap outside retails for about $6-9 already. But the lingering smell of bbq is a bit of a concern especially if you're coming here right after a bath.

We finally made it here for a second helping. And this time, for the savoury ones.

We only had the pannekoek from Belgium the last time so let's go!

Just in time for their last set lunch order which offers 5 selections with a mini fruit salad and soft drink for $9.80++. I wanted a chicken and she got herself some sausages smile

Provence.

The dish was not very palatable. Seeing as how my provencal styled tomato sauce was dumped in an ugly heap atop my chicken and cheese. Sigh. This made my pancakes soggy too. They really should just served the sauce on the side. Or at least leave the pancakes out of this. The wedges had a frozen taste to it and were served lukewarm. Honestly? I wasn't hungry anymore.

To be fair though, the chicken was a substantial portion. The sauce was savoury but I felt a pinch of sugar might've brought out the taste a little bit more. Since the cheese basically imparted all the saltiness and overtook the tangy taste of tomatoes in the sauce.

Barcelona.

Galette, made of buckwheat flour and paper thin. A pretty biscuit base but tasteless on its own. This was a slightly better option. The sauce and it's presentation was a lot better than the former. But the scrambled eggs were a dry pile looking entirely out of place on this pretty galette. *frowns. Quite the smattering of sausages and cheese. I loved the mushroom sauce and of course I'd have loved more of it. smile

The service was lacking though. We were one of the two tables dining at 3pm and our orders were left waiting on the counter, not served immediately. Our requests for water were delayed for as long as another two polite requests were made.

It wasn't like that on my previous visit. So what happened?

It was a toss up between medz and this.

As a no brainer. I voted for ramen. And so did the rest. Why we voted in the first place?

I had the basic chashu ramen.

It was satisfyingly salty. And the pickled spicy beansprouts a perfect accompaniment to my otherwise boring broth.

While I love my ramen and its texture, the soup is always just a tad too salty... only on hindsight.

I'd rather much head to the other outlets with hardboiled eggs to take the edge off the salt.

Worth every single drop of sweat? OK Sep 04, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Coffeeshop | Noodles

It was a swelteringly hot day and our cars were parked over at Stadium Link.

We decided to take a break from the usual food courts and head over to prawn noodles at the start of Geylang Road.

The walk under the mad oppressive heat of the sun seemed like a terrible decision.

And adding fuel to the fire?

There was no more ngoh hiang left. sad

Well then, leaves me no choice but to get my bowl of prawn and pork rib noodle soup.

A beehoon mee combination doused in much too little broth, a few pieces of short ribs and two prawns split lengthwise.

Five buckaroos.

Worth my sweat? The company definitely was. smile

Just a tip though. Stay away from the air conditioning vents.

Those are just HEAT radiators.
