what's your beef? Smile Jan 31, 2013

I wanted soup and I wanted something substantial. So I got the beef nabemono and an add on option of udon and an egg.

More slices of beef than I thought. This was good. Very good in fact. The beef was fatty enough to make sure that the beef stayed tender after being cooked in the broth.

The vegetables made the soup stock sweet and of course there was just ONE solitary flower mushroom. oh my precious one.

Aside from that though, this was a good dinner option!

Let's not take sides on this and agree on the fact that this, my friends, is definitely a pretty sight for an Asian salad. Only available during the Lunar New Year period.

This version at Haachi Tei is an awesomely generous portion and even more generous on ingredients. But still, these take second place as compared to the warm hospitality of the owner herself. Walking into the restaurant will put one who isnt forewarned of the volume at which she speaks and closeness of how she ushers you to your seats, ill at ease.

To be frank, your salad might not look like ours.Girlfriends who've dined there for a period of two years gets us complimentary sharks fin. Which I would gladly skip but appreciated her kind gesture. Portions of fish were ample and fresh. The sauce is premixed, a sort of wafu dressing in which she kindly coaxes you to add in a knob of wasabi to add a different dimension of flavour to the dish. Thats not all. She stands next to you to initiate the rite of tossing. Rehearsing a shout of Huat AH! Her infectious spontaneity makes dining an unusually special affair. Definite stress reliever.
For $36 nett and more than enough for the 7 of us.

Shanghai special! Smile Aug 07, 2014

Special Shanghai Tim Sum with a history that dates back to the 1940s used to be at Margaret Drive is now at Maxwell Food Centre.
And still as good.
If not better.

Their Shanghai Nian Gao with seafood.
This is the small portion at $4.
It isn't big on seafood.
But that isn't the main star of this dish.
Their sliced nian gao is and it shines through.
Delightfully chewy yet easily digestible.
The gravy is lightly seasoned and encapsulates wonderfully umami seafood flavours within that makes one want to finish up every last drop of this!
Seafood hor fun is my favourite cze char dish but it's definitely taking a backseat to this.

And how can one not make an order for their legendary dumplings?
I went for their healthier option steamed dumplings today.
Served piping hot.
They steam only upon each order.
Generous servings of minced meat mixed with some chopped ham for that tinge of pink peeking through its translucent skin.
Perfect with ginger and vinegar.

what's in season? Smile Oct 31, 2013   (Related Review)

There's been rave reviews of the chococro original croissant.

But that's the classic that'll always stay.

So I got myself a mix box of 5 croissants with three chococros and two matcha daifuku chococros.

Matcha anything gets my attention and boy was this good. red bean paste and matcha cream in a mochi and brilliantly wrapped in their buttery croissant. OHYUM.

meat heaven Smile Oct 31, 2013

And what should i order?

In a panic, I googled on goodwood park's signature recommendations.

"For those who prefer meat dishes, one outstanding choice is the Duo of U.S. Wagyu Beef –
Braised Wagyu Beef Cheek and Grilled Fillet in a Bordelaise sauce with root vegetables.
The cheek is very tender, thanks to a 24-hour soaking process in red wine and a further 24-
hours of oven cooking at low temperature."

And that was exactly what I got. The beef cheek was fork tender and fell apart without much use of the knife.
The grilled fillet was juicy yet tender done medium well. Both pieces of meat were delicious and I alternated between them for satisfaction for my carnivorous appetites on different levels.

At $52++, this didn't come cheap but well worth the price.

Spending per head: Approximately $60(Dinner)
