Heard a lot. and says it all. OK Oct 29, 2013

Walking into the shop, I find myself surrounded by tables of the locals dining with shochu at the end of their work day. Frazzled faces, loosened neckties and a cup in hand.

This would be authentic wouldn't it?

the most memorable item on the banchan were the mayonnaise buttered corn. i LOVED this. and no, there were no seconds on this. imagine my face when i see the table next to me not touching theirs and it had to be cleared out -just like that- when they left. sigh. the kimchi however, needed a longer time to soak in the flavours.

we were here solely to try the meats and there's a minimum order of two types of meat before you get the charcoal grill going. otherwise, it'd just be cooked and served.

the staff do the grilling of meats for you but not that they keep track of timings. they just do it as they walk past. so still do watch out for your own meats.

the signature red pig pork was marinated with a reddish sauce and the eventual meat tasted like char siew. it was good but not overwhelmingly so.

the short ribs were savoury and went well with the lettuce and hot sauce provided. Mmm. smile

Swirls of happiness Smile Oct 29, 2013

I've always had my cheesecake fixes at certain establishments and this would be one of the more infrequent ones. I usually just have my coffees here. But this was a very sweetsalty surprise.

happy teacher's day! smile

my favourite boys they came up with an impromptu attempt to celebrate education with me. haha.

the cheesecake was equally dense as the CBTL ones but less smooth. i loved the raspberry swirls that gave a sour fruity tang that was more refreshing than jarring.

i liked it. smile

Too many to decide! Smile Oct 29, 2013

There were milkshakes of all sorts of fancy names. celebrity names, that is. And of course i highly doubt they drink milkshakes like i do, in place of dinner. And what did I do? Ask the server.

He recommended one then two and then it came to so many i gave up and told him to narrow it down for me.

It was between a dark chocolate banana and matcha. Guess what he served?

this had a good amount of matcha powder infused into their sweet cream ice cream. if zen was sweet, this would be it! smile

thick and good till the very last sip.

Light bites Smile Oct 29, 2013   (Related Review)

Popped in for some light bites.

portugese egg tarts.
these babies are only yummy piping hot so if they aren't served hot then your dining experience would be much compromised. i liked the filling. it wasn't too sweet and held together well enough for me to share this with my friend.

this prawn and mango rolls had a strong fruity taste. which went well with the savoury wrap and prawns. dip this in mayo. you have to. smile

these spring onion biscuits were very green. much greener than i remembered them to be.
dip these in the vinegar chilli oil dip that's served alongside. and you'll finish them faster than you remembered them being on your table at all!

Not just chocolate. Smile Oct 29, 2013

The plan was for dinner before we indulged in dessert.

Truffled fries ($15)

these thick straight cut fries were tossed in white truffle oil and flavoured with truffle sea salt. a substantial portion served with mayonnaise and bbq sauce. perhaps instead of bbq, they could change it to a curry or wasabi mayonnaise dip.

This was a good starter and as hard as it is to share, these carbo laden deep fried foods taste best when shared. smile

we had a chicken mushroom crepe. we were impressed when it was served. it was bigger than we expected. and every cut had an ample amount of chicken and mushroom. the side salad looked like christmas came early. with a handful of walnuts and dried cranberry giving a much appreciated twist to the usual boring side salads. there was also a lot of cream sauce which was a drawback since it was liberally drizzled and made parts of the crepe too soggy. i'd probably try making this order again with the sauce on the side next time.

and the desserts? we were rushing off for our musical and by the time we were done about 1030pm, the restaurant was already doing closings. sad
