Too many people at the food court it was just painful waiting for seats. so we went on over to the corner place for some bimbimbap loving.

this was $8.80 ++ for bimbimbap buffet. it sounded like... too much rice.

thankfully not so. a very patient filipino staff got ready our tables and explained what our buffet included. which was basically the cooked meats, fried glass noodles, prawn crackers and all their ban chan salads. Rice and seaweed soup too of course. smile

That's my round one and round two! The marinated meats are actually all really quite good. smile tender slices of pork chicken and beef. my favourite's the pork though. and i love their brilliantly green cucumber slices. perfect palate cleanser.

they also have preserved spicy radish cubes, kimchi, beanstrips, beansprouts with mushroom and raw lettuce. eating my greens smile

For $10.90 nett, the food isn't half bad considering a bowl of bimbimbap outside retails for about $6-9 already. But the lingering smell of bbq is a bit of a concern especially if you're coming here right after a bath.

But no soy sauce forty cents sushi either. That's alright though. We headed straight for what we wanted.

An order for 6 wagyu sashimi sushi. The kagoshimi roasted wagyu had a good marbling appearance. Now all that's left was the taste test. At $4 a pop, this was not cheap. but boy it was good!

It melts in your mouth and there was a slightly smoky aftertaste. It didn't have a gamey taste during or after and the garlic and negi were awesome accompaniments to this. Just a spot of wasabi and I was good to go.

the salmon sashimi was a bright pretty pink and was fresh. melting omega lines. these oils must be good for me. smile

I love this new spacious offering of theirs even if it means travelling a little bit more distance for Itacho. Rather the distance then the queue correct? And another half dozen of salmon sashimi.

He's back from Cordon Bleu in Paris and was craving for some Thai Mookata which couldn't just wait till his Bangkok trip the next day.

So us being the ever accomodating girl pals, we went along with him to Tom Yum Kungfu.

A reservation at 8pm got us seats in 15 minutes while a group of two girls waited for just slightly longer before they got a seat. Apparently from 6-8pm, people wait for up to an hour for seats without reservations. Not that I wanted to ever try.

Food made simple. You choose from set meals if you're having Mookata. Otherwise, there's a whole host of Thai dishes to choose from their ala carte menu.

So this was it. Our best deal set for 3-4pax for $49. No Mama noodles, more veggies please. And we added on a side of pork and pork belly. This was some oink loving going on.

And by recommendation, we got their signature fish paste on bamboo too. But this was a downer. Lacking in taste and bite, this was too expensive to take up stomach space. I'd rather much have my pigs thank you very much.

The art of mookata, soup the soupy ingredients and grill those meats well, crisp the edges and leave the middle tender with the help of their generous lard cubes of course. Ingenious. And takes some skill. Or actually, discipline.

I'm happy just cooking my meats. Who cares about the browned edges or grill marks... until he fed me one done just right. Mmm.

And if you love chilli, their sauce packs a right punch! It left me wanting.

For all that and two rounds of drinks each, it totalled to $99 for us three. Which was a satisfyingly filling dinner for a decent price. smile

It's a quaint and quiet restaurant with Japanese chatter around.

Must be good if the natives are dining here.

It's one of the restaurants under the RE&S group. Yup, the people behind Ichiban chain of dining and also Men-Ichi next door and The Green Pumpkin just opposite. Of course, there was also Ichiban further up from here. They basically monopolized the Japanese food street in Nex. I'm not complaining with all these dining options made available by my favourite Japanese family store.

Let's get some starters shall we?

Just my brother and I, we decided to share a breaded squid balls topped with cheese. It was a pretty sight. But these caps of cheese, if they could just be a bit more melty, I'd have given it higher marks.

The salad was a good palate cleanser but I did wish they had some salad dressing on the side...

We shared a kurobuta pork slice set. Tender slices of pork left to boil on a hotplate with cabbage and savoury sauce. This was a delight to go with rice. Might be a tad too salty on its own.

A couple of slices of sashimi, smooth chawanmushi and orange slices to end off the meal.

It was a good meal, although their menu items might seem a little more expensive than the ones offered at Ichiban outlets, I gladly paid for their quiet surroundings and generous servings.

Time to come back with the parents soon!

We finally made it here for a second helping. And this time, for the savoury ones.

We only had the pannekoek from Belgium the last time so let's go!

Just in time for their last set lunch order which offers 5 selections with a mini fruit salad and soft drink for $9.80++. I wanted a chicken and she got herself some sausages smile

Provence.

The dish was not very palatable. Seeing as how my provencal styled tomato sauce was dumped in an ugly heap atop my chicken and cheese. Sigh. This made my pancakes soggy too. They really should just served the sauce on the side. Or at least leave the pancakes out of this. The wedges had a frozen taste to it and were served lukewarm. Honestly? I wasn't hungry anymore.

To be fair though, the chicken was a substantial portion. The sauce was savoury but I felt a pinch of sugar might've brought out the taste a little bit more. Since the cheese basically imparted all the saltiness and overtook the tangy taste of tomatoes in the sauce.

Barcelona.

Galette, made of buckwheat flour and paper thin. A pretty biscuit base but tasteless on its own. This was a slightly better option. The sauce and it's presentation was a lot better than the former. But the scrambled eggs were a dry pile looking entirely out of place on this pretty galette. *frowns. Quite the smattering of sausages and cheese. I loved the mushroom sauce and of course I'd have loved more of it. smile

The service was lacking though. We were one of the two tables dining at 3pm and our orders were left waiting on the counter, not served immediately. Our requests for water were delayed for as long as another two polite requests were made.

It wasn't like that on my previous visit. So what happened?
