The legend of pandan cake. Smile Sep 05, 2013

Categories : Peranakan / Nonya | Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

Apparently, this has been a perennial favourite of tourists to Singapore. Especially the ones from Hong Kong. So I had a request to buy 6 of these full sized pandan cakes.

Shocking? I never bought so many at once before. Nor have I tasted it for a long while. I asked for it to be sliced and the lady over the counter advised me against it as it would cause the cakes to become dry after a period of time.

The one that I bought for my own consumption however, she gladly sliced for me.

Look at that! The pandan fragrance wafts through my plastic carrier. The soft spongey delicate texture was something that cannot be replicated in the factory made pandan cakes. This was a morning delight for breakfast. smile

It's been a long while since I've had pandan cakes from Bengawan Solo and I was hooked. Get yourself one this weekend!

Raw! Smile Jun 28, 2013

This is the real deal, served to us raw in a paper hotpot waiting to be boiled to our preferred level of doneness. This set came with a small bowl of teriyaki chicken don, a side of salmon sashimi, chawanmushi and fruits. This was shared by my mum and I. It was a set filling enough for two people on a light lunch option. We also had a serving of the cream horns. One vanilla one chocolate. I love these. Smooth creamy delights encrusted in a flaky pastry shell. MMM! smile

salty sweet Smile Jan 31, 2013

So i've grown up eating this.

I kid you not.

I walk into the kitchen these days just to talk to the lady with black mod glam plastic glasses.

She's a mainstay here.

And well, she can vouch for me. I used to rush down after school back in secondary school just to grab some with a cup of hot milo before they closed on a weekday.

I always ask for the salty ones. Although some days i can't decide and ask for a box of ten mixed.

The pastry shell is always so buttery and flaky it melts in your mouth.

And the bean paste is just the type that I like.

Call me a food snob. But THIS is the only kind of tau sar piah I like.

brilliantly inexpensive brunch Smile Jan 31, 2013

And i've long had it with $22 brunch ideas that have now become commonplace just because everyone is willing to pay that amount for two eggs, some bechamel sauce, two pieces of salmon fumee, a piece of toast and some greens. EGGS. seriously.

So I decide to have brunch here at neil road. Where the rosti goes for $7 and add ons cost between $2-$3 extra. I could have a feast with $22! smile

They have egg sets here too but the eggs ben was definitely less than $20.

Next time round I'd do desserts!

Recommended Dish(es):  rosti with cheese sausage

On a cold, wet and rainy day.

I took refuge at Sembawang Hills Food Centre for a lunch date with my girlfriend who works further down the road.
And there was no question about it.
My choice of food that is. (Amazing, I know smile)
Fish soup. With rice no less.

Instantly,
It made the world look brighter.
Two simple things.
A good meal. Awesome company.
