The cool evening breeze blows across the outdoor seating area of Tanuki Raw as we watched the live band settle into their stage for their set.

A jazzy soothing voice from the lady and the perfect unplugged accompaniment on guitar. They worked well together and stirred up my appetite for dinner.

Skipping all the raw stuff and going straight for the rolls past the happy hour period.

The all time familiar California ($8)
Avocado, crabstick, cucumber and tobiko roe drizzled with yuzu mayo.

And definitely a salmon choice with Rockstar ($10)
Seared salmon draped over a mozzarella stick and covered with spicy salmon roe sauce.

Going for gold with The Love Rocket ($9)
This sushi was fried and deliciously so, with fried oyster coming to you with a sprinkle of ground fish, sesame seeds,
and sugar.

Ten different types of rolls and I've picked just three to try. These rolls were good for neat bites and very filling for two.

Another seven more to try. For the next night out at Tanuki!

for a very happy birthday indeed! Smile Oct 03, 2013

And we purposely made a dessert stop here for the birthday girl.

On request and they will gladly oblige, with a candle and birthday greetings for you.

The Callebaut Warm Chocolate Molten Cake with maple walnut gelato. $14.

The thin candle was placed at the side of the plate so it didn't protrude and drip wax onto the warm chocolate fondant. The outward layer was slightly crisp on the edges and when cut open, revealed a lovely viscous molten chocolate interior. The maple walnut gelato had lovely bits of walnut and had an overwhelmingly pungent smell and taste of maple syrup. I'd rather a simple french vanilla but the birthday girl seemed to like this very much!

Thumbs up for their impressive service (Czar enquired which one of us the birthday girl was and when the dessert was ready, she took care to stay out of sight and lit the candle quietly for that brilliant surprise!) and for making the birthday celebration that bit more special! smile

These owners are our long time family friends. Seeing as how my grandmother used to live around the corner just behind Swee Choon at Desker Road. Last I saw, it's now an antique knick knack shop and Swee Choon has expanded their business to take over three outlet spaces from just one.

It wasn't a long wait even though the queue seemed long. Just go straight to the counter to let the guy know how many seats are required.

The cutest pumpkin shaped dim sum. I cannot resist making an order for this. deep fried and bursting with custard within.

And the deep fried carrot cake. Best eaten hot. Dipped in creamy mayonnaise. The chewy bits of preserved sausages impart great flavour to this item.

a little something sweet. Smile Oct 02, 2013

Traditional breakfasts are made of these.

I used to always look forward to this and a huge yummy dough fritter for dipping.

So here, for less than $2, you get a dessert reminiscent of childhood and to complete the experience? I walked around the corner to get my huge yummy dough fritter piping hot, to dip! Four small pieces of you tiao disappear in no time.

The tau suan was delightfully sweet and contrasted well with the salty dough fritters.

When's the last time you had something like this?

What if you didn't want anything fried here?

Of course there are items on the menu that aren't fried so not to fear.

Building up muscle mass with some carbo here at Monster Curry.

I ordered the shabu pork and omu rice. Making add-ons for sausage and cheese. And a level 5 for curry.

The shabu pork was simply done retaining its original flavours. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and moist enveloping grains of japanese short rice grains.

The sausages came in two pairs. Crunchy sausage casings and savoury pork fillings.

This was much less guilty than the fried options. smile)
