very Q meepok! Smile Mar 14, 2013

Amoy Street Food Centre is one of the food centre (or how we locals say, hawker centre) in Singapore where you get to try all sort of local food in just one stop. Amoy Food Centre offer more than 100 stalls of delicacies, be it on the ground floor or the second floor, it will be difficult for you to find a place to enjoy a meal during peak hour, so you gotta be early in order to "chop" the seats.

Was there due to work purpose and was so spoil for choices, so I just follow the queue and crowd for this fish ball noodle - Ah Ter's Fishball Noodle. Ordered the small bowl of mee pok dry at $3.50, comes with 2 handmade fish balls, minced meat, fish dumpling and some fishcake. The meepok is one of the best I had - very very Q and not soggy nor lumpy like how many noodles tends to be after it is being cooked. Their fishball is good, too, and 1 bite of it and u will know it is really handmade and not frozen kind. The soup is very tasty too, without feeling thirsty after I drank the whole bowl.

Now I know why it always attract such a long queue as compared to the other stalls selling the same thing. Definitely recommending it!

YUMMYLICIOUS FOOD! Smile Jul 09, 2013

Introduced by my lovely colleagues, I decided to lunch here as I've heard about the really cheap and awesome food served here at Jamboree Bar. It is call bar with a reason cos the beer here is really indeed very dirt cheap. Cost only $4.90 from 11am - 6pm, not even $5! Happy hour wise is even more cheap than outside, it only costs $6! A place to consider to chill out after work!

I had the Fish & Chips Set which comes with soup and drinks and guess what? It only costs $16! Note that the price is NETT, so you don't have to worry about 7% GST and 10% Service Charge even though the service is not up to standard. The fish and chips is beer battered and guess what? The beer taste is so fragrant and make the whole dish sweet! It is also very crispy yet soft inside and the combination is so yummy yummy!

The soup wise is nice too! Add more pepper and salt for more flavors! Too bad it can't be refilled not I will definitely have many many many bowls of it!

DURIAN PANCAKES Smile Jul 03, 2013

Categories : Malay | Singaporean Chinese

Located just next to the crazy long queue money changer at Chinatown's People Park Complex, this has got to be the best durian pancake you ever get for just... $1.50 - $2. They even have the option of having the normal size one or, if you are feeling very 'durian-ish' that day, you can even upsize the durian pancake to the JUMBO size (which really is, very gigantic).

I had the durian jumbo pancake one of cos, since their specialty is the local favorite, DURIAN. If you doesn't want your mouth to stink after savoring the pancake (or don't make it even more stinky from your original stinky mouth...) you can opt for the other exotic flavors available there. Go see for yourself and decide what you want!

Anyway back to the pancake. The pancake skin is very extremely crispy! I don't know the super friendly lady boss do it but it just taste sooooo crispy till you can hear the "crack crack" sound when you bite into it. Not those very thick pancake skin you buy from outside, cos you will just taste the flour taste and not the star of the food, DURIAN. They are very particular about the quality of their durian used and will changed every now and then once there's negative feedback from their customers. At last a shop which listen to the feedback from the customers!

Well for the durian used, I love it. It is not very sweet like other places (sugar added!) but tasted very natural and original. The durian smell is strong but yet it smell so good (and taste too!)

Not a fan of pancake? Nevermind. They have durian tapioca (what!) too which taste as good. There's even all sorts of durian snacks available to satisfy your craving for durianssss!

Finally there's somewhere I can actually go to in Singapore for some Taiwanese dessert. I saw this shop selling Taiwanese dessert online with a really cute name, Bing Bian which makes me really want to go down and taste it myself. You will be spoil for choices because there's so many dessert with different combination for you to choose from! What make this shop special is that their shave ice has got different flavors in it and it taste really good with it thick flavor. The texture of the shave us is somewhere in between sorbet and ice cream.

I chose to have the taro ice which comes with the yam and sweet potato chewy kind of topping. I even top up to have extra of these and I am glad I did so because it is the best I have tried (in Singapore)! For $4.90 you get yourself a big bowl of goodies, very worth it for sure. The shop owner (whom I suspect is the boss) is very friendly and chatty.

For sure I will be back for more of these goodies!

really good prawn mee. Smile Mar 08, 2013

I love the soup base of this prawn mee as it is boiled with fresh ingredients and is has little (or no) MSG because I don't feel thirsty after finishing the whole bowl of soup. With $4, you can choose from any starch available (Kuey Tiao, Yellow Noodle, Bee Hoon or even Mee Pok if I remember correctly) to go with the generous serving of fresh solid prawns (4 in total) and 2 pieces of pork ribs. Or if you are not a fan of pork ribs or want to save money, you can order the $3 portion which switch the pork ribs to 3 meat balls instead.

The stall owners are really very friendly, smiling at you when you place your order, really make your day with this kind gesture.

Try their dry version of the prawn mee and ask for extra chili powder if you are a fan of chili, you will not be disappointed!
