Xin Cuisine's Mooncake Smile Aug 21, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Hotel | Dim Sum

Was invited to the moon cakes food tasting by OpenRice at Xin Cuisine, Holiday Inn Atrium. A great hospitality to the guests from Holiday Inn as not only they provided the star of the night - moon cakes for the guests to try, there's also some really good bite size food available.

Tried their signature roast duck, scallops, chicken roll and roasted pork. My favorite is definitely the roast duck as the meat is roast perfectly and the meat is so tender and soft. High possibility that I will be back for the sake of this roast duck dish. The roasted pork belly is done nicely too. Though I am not a fan of that but still, I think it is one of the best I had tried.

One of the highlights of this food tasting is definitely the wines! We got the privileged to sample some really good red and white wine together with the moon cakes. I would say that my favorite is the Riondo Prosecco with its fruity and bubbly texture, pairing it nicely together with either the snow skin moon cakes or traditional moon cakes.
The boxes are so attractive!

Honestly this is the first time I tried the moon cakes from Xin Cuisine and it was good! Even better than the one I used to get from some other hotel. I love their custard egg yolk traditional moon cake. It is sweet and not too thick thus you don't feel very jelat after that. As for the snow skin moon cake, my favorite are the black sesame paste with peanut and chocolate and also the peranakan durian.

Overall a enjoyable night with good desserts and wine and company!

I love yam-flavored cakes and it's so rare to find in Singapore... So when I get to know that Angie the Choice has got this flavor on their shelves, I decided to get order that cake for my sibling's birthday. she was pretty happy with how beautiful the cake is and when we cut and tasted the cake, it taste really good! The yam paste in the cake is not very sweet and is recommended to elders at home who is has a strict diet but still wants to taste a bit of some sweet food. This will definitely be in my list if I were to get another cake for other occasions the next time.

Starbucks Smile Jul 11, 2013

My favorite ice blended frappe among all other beverages sold in Starbucks, the Green Tea Ice Blended Frappe. I like the richness of Matcha (green tea) flavor in it which makes the whole drink very thick with the flavor. Blended with ice cubes and milk (Full cream milk the best!), the greenish cup of goodness is so hard to resist. This drink is suitable during hot and humid weather, not too sweet and definitely will cool you down without feeling more thirsty!

YUMMYLICIOUS FOOD! Smile Jul 09, 2013

Introduced by my lovely colleagues, I decided to lunch here as I've heard about the really cheap and awesome food served here at Jamboree Bar. It is call bar with a reason cos the beer here is really indeed very dirt cheap. Cost only $4.90 from 11am - 6pm, not even $5! Happy hour wise is even more cheap than outside, it only costs $6! A place to consider to chill out after work!

I had the Fish & Chips Set which comes with soup and drinks and guess what? It only costs $16! Note that the price is NETT, so you don't have to worry about 7% GST and 10% Service Charge even though the service is not up to standard. The fish and chips is beer battered and guess what? The beer taste is so fragrant and make the whole dish sweet! It is also very crispy yet soft inside and the combination is so yummy yummy!

The soup wise is nice too! Add more pepper and salt for more flavors! Too bad it can't be refilled not I will definitely have many many many bowls of it!

Wintermelon milk tea... yucks. Cry Jul 09, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Taiwanese | Chinese Desserts | Bubble Tea/ Tea

So I ordered this drink, Wintermelon Milk Tea from this outlet because I was thirsty. I was looking forward and expecting it to be something very milky yet refreshing (since wintermelon tea and milk tea are my favorite) but when I finally got my drink, the color looks like muddy water. I got a funny feeling about it and poke in my straw to have the first taste. It tastes nothing like a milky taste and instead what I am tasting is a super diluted winter melon tea with only 10% of milk in it (which explains the color).

The large cup was filled to brim with the muddy water and I guess I can only finish like 1/15 of it and threw the whole thing away. I heard from my partner later that the person inside who was making the drink doesn't know how to make it! This was supposed to be one of the hot selling item and yet... I'll rather just spend $1 at Bugis Village to buy the diluted watermelon juice and it will still taste as good. huffy
