fresh seafood Smile Apr 10, 2013

Owen Seafood is one of my favorite place to go for some really fresh seafood. In my opinion, I think their food is much more tastier than those big brands outside and best of all you get to choose your seafood right outside their restaurant. There's also a 50% off all live seafood during weekdays and 40% off all seafood during weekends and PH.

I will always order their tiger prawns whenever I visited the place. You get to choose what kind of cooking method you prefer for your seafood and you will never go wrong with their herbal prawn soup served in a claypot. The soup is superb together with the fresh prawns being cooked to perfection. Soon Hock fish is a mush when I am there, and they will help you choose the size of the fish according to how many diners is with you. Tried their chili crabs too - the crab crawl is as big as my palm (no joke). Other than live seafood, we also ordered their prawn paste chicken and some stirred fried greens, which tasted good too.

One thing to compliment is their service - the aunty who is serving us that day is very friendly and fast in cleaning up our dirty plates. Thumbs up!

over-priced OK Apr 10, 2013

I was being warned by my personal food nazi that this place serves over-priced thai food, but still I went ahead with a friend who wanted to try the food there. We ordered quite a bit of food - Green curry, tom yum goong, pad thai, minced basil chicken, soft shell crabs. The soft shell crabs is nice, but try to finish it when it is still hot - once it's not it will be very oily. Tom Yum Goong taste refreshing and not that spicy but very over priced for a small bowl of soup. basil chicken is not spicy and a bit salty. My friend had the pad thai and she likes it though.

Total bill came up to nearly $80. Portion is not even for one IMO and I think I will try to avoid this place next time. I had better and cheaper thai food somewhere else.

Oh, and the service was slow too.

PRATA Cry Apr 08, 2013

Ordered myself 2 egg prata for supper. Their prata is not oily and the egg is not overcooked. The curry to dip the prata is quite diluted, if it's thicker it will be much better. Nothing much special about the prata though.

Also ordered a plate of maggie goreng in pattaya style. A disaster dish I must say. The omelet which wrapped the maggie mee has a very strong chao-tah (burnt) smell. The maggie goreng is very oily and to the extend I feel that it was being soaked in oil... definitely not recommended.

fruit juice mee siam! Smile Apr 08, 2013

i dont usually order mee siam for lunch but since this mee siam is recommended but so many people, I decided to give it a try. The mee siam gravy is definitely not the same as what you have ate from other stalls. It is surprisingly refreshing with hours of boiling with real fruit juice in order to get such unique taste. Also tried their laksa and again, it is light and not oily (definitely not sinful!) at all. I love their cockles - really fresh and not frozen. Serving was generous with just $3 per bowl. If you want extra, you may want to order the $6 big bowl which comes with crayfish (for both mee siam and laksa)

Recommended Dish(es):  mee siam,laksa

Spending per head: Approximately $3(Lunch)

fresh fruits Smile Mar 20, 2013

If I happen to be lunching in Far East Plaza, I will definitely visit this fresh fruits stall for my daily fruits fix. There are several fruit stalls in Far East Plaza, but I find that this stall has sell the cheapest and freshest fruits compare to the others. I love their guava - crispy and fresh, together with the plum powder... it's heavenly. Other than fruits, they have this fruit juice station which prepare your order on the spot after you have ordered. You can mix and match any fruits you want as they are flexible with your order.

There will be a long queue during lunch hour so it's not difficult to spot this humble small shop selling really fresh fruits.

Oh, and the auntie is very friendly too, preparing your fruits with a smile! smile
