Best Fishball Noodles! Smile Jul 30, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

This stall sells a variety of dishes from bak chor mee to pig's organ soup and fishball noodles. I really love their fishball noodles because they are very generous with the serving and ingredients. For an upgrade to three dollars from $2.50, you get extra mushrooms and two fried dumplings on top of the normal serving of fishballs and fishcakes. Their combination of sauce is also perfect, sufficient flavour for the entire bowl of noodles. Their noodles are not too wet or dry, good for slurping up! They are generous in giving everything, even the vegetables, both green lettuce and bean sprouts. Very delicious bowl of noodles!! chopstick

Starbucks introduced its new Frappe flavours- green tea latte with red beans and hojicha tea with earl grey jelly. I was deciding between the two that day, because I was quite bored of the normal Frappe flavours so decided to get the ice green tea latte with red beans. There was a whole chunk of red beans added into the drink which overwhelmed the green tea ): all i could taste was the red beans which was not particularly nice. I thought the red beans would just be a small portion of topping, adding a tinge of extra red bean flavour to the drink but disappointedly not. Did not really enjoy the drink very much because I still like the strong original green tea flavour.

Kueh Lopes Cry Jul 29, 2012

I used to buy Kueh Lopes from this stall at seventy cents per piece and the pieces were not as small as the present one. Now, it is two pieces for $1.20 and the pieces have shrunk ): The glutinous rice is also not as soft as before, a little hard at some ends and not as fragrant too. They give a generous amount of coconut shreds and gula melaka but the rice does not absorb the gula melaka easily so you dont get the juice oozing out of the rice. Quite disappointing. sad

I decided to have dinner with a group of friends at this restaurant which I have heard that the chef learnt from Jamie Oliver and it supports ex-prisoners in giving them jobs at the restaurant. There were not many people in the restaurant which was at a quiet corner of the food court at Fusionpolis during dinnertime as the rest of the stalls at the food court were all closed. They had a student meal which was about six dollars, includes a pasta, drink and a scoop of ice cream. There was a choice of the type of pasta sauce and topping. There was an option for cheese and extra toppings at an additional charge. I ordered mango cream sauce spaghetti with sausages as my topping. The pasta appeared plain and not appetising because there was only one topping but the sauce was very unique. It was sweet from the mango and it tasted a little weird at the start but I got used to it after that. Their other kinds of sauces are also worth trying! The ice cream served was not of really high quality but it was satisfactory enough as a refreshing dessert to end off the meal.

Laksa @ The Supertrees OK Jul 29, 2012

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Food Court

I visited the Gardens by the Bay quite recently and decided to have lunch at the air conditioned coffeeshop at Supertree Dining. The entire restaurant was very well decorated with wooden stools and ceramic tables, even the menus were printed in the form of newspapers! Although i agree the prices of the food are quite pricey, I enjoyed the ambience of sitting in the restaurant, felt like I was brought back to the olden days. There were also pieces of olden kitchen ware that were displayed on the shelves as part of the decoration.

That day, a few of the items on the menu were not available, so I settled for a bowl of laksa. The laksa bowl was in a unique oval shape and it was quite a whole portion of laksa gravy and ingredients. The laksa gravy was very thick with very strong coconut milk flavour. It was not very spicy as the coconut milk overwhelmed the chili paste flavour. There were very huge cockles in the laksa which were fresh and juicy! We also had fried chicken wings which were fried with very strong prawn paste. They were crispy and flavourful but a little bit too oily. Their variety of drinks were similar to that of those in normal coffee shops, from hot coffee to plum juice drink and barley. Again, some of the drinks like barley were unavailable which I was quite disappointed but the plum juice I ordered was not too bad. It was very refreshing!

The food took some time to come because it was quite crowded but when it came, it came all at once, so it really satisfied our appetites. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience in the well-created olden coffee shop ambience but it was definitely a little too pricey to have local fare at these prices because they are nothing very special from those you can find at a normal kopitiam. However, I guess it's the uniqueness of the place that continues to draw visitors to dine at the restaurant. smile
