The salted egg fried fish skin Smile Jul 28, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Zi Char

Well I got bought this dish at the singapore favorite food event at the marina bay sands area when I noticed that moi lum is one of the winners for the voting session. of cos I have to try their famous salted egg fried fish skin as this is recommended by so many people. the auntie was very friendly and proud of her dish and indeed it is no disappointment. the fish skin is fried to perfection, very crispy and not oily. I think I can just eat the fish skin like keropok non stop this is seriously very addictive. the salted egg yolk sauce make the dish smell even good, but a little salty in my opinion. I will definitely order this in their restaurant the next time I visit them!

Apa rojak Smile Jul 28, 2013
Categories : Food Court

Got this rojak from apa kitchen during the Singapore favorite food 2013 event at marina bay. ordered the $4 plate and the plate was filled with the usual rojak stuff such as you tiao, tau pok, pineapple, cucumber, apple and turnip slices. I like their special rojak dark sauce which is mixed together with the mentioned ingredients and it tasted sweet and addictive. The roasted chopped peanuts gives an extra crunchiness to the dish and also to make it smell nice too!

Secret recipe Smile Jul 28, 2013

Lunch was at secret recipe with my friends. I was quite surprised to find asian dishes being introduced in a what seems to be a western restaurant and so I decided to give the asian menu a try. I ordered the laksa noodles and was pleased with the light laksa gravy. the gravy is the watery version, not thick at all but it tasted flavorful, with the coconut milk and spices well blend together. what I dislike about the dish is the thick cut of the fish cake which makes the dish look cheap. Prefer it to be slicedthinly and lay it on the top of the noodles to make the presentation more presentable.

Awesome tze char Smile Jul 28, 2013

Introduced by a friend of mine, a group of my friends and decided to head down to this branch at sin ming and see if the standard is similar as the one at commonwealth. the place is actually a stand alone block and is inside the very ulu HDB estate. but we managed to find the place though. had the usual butter pork ribs (must order!), 2 plates of the drunken cockles, herbal chicken soup, spinach with 3 eggs, prawn paste chicken and cereal prawns. well my favorite this time round is the herbal chicken soup, which tasted so flavorful and the chicken is very tender and soak in the flavor of the herbal. the butter pork ribs is nice as usual. the prawn paste chicken got snatch up so fast that we ordered another plate to satisfy our craving. as for tje drunken cockles, it was supposed to serve first as appetizer but I think they forgot about it until I ask for the dish. it wasn't as nice as the other branch as the cockles is still very raw and didn't soak in much of the garlic and chili padi sauce. Overall verdict- I think the other branch at commonwealth is better smile

Cupcakes! Smile Jul 28, 2013

Categories : Desserts and Cakes

A new shop selling cupcakes at far east plaza and decided to try it out. as we cannot settle for which flavor to choose from, we gladly take the 6 mini cupcakes bundle which is the exact miniature of the regular size cup cakes on shelves. We chose flavors such as nutella chocolate, key lime, strawberry cream, bonafide, double chocolate and banana. I was surprised to find that their cake based tasted so homely! It is moist and fluffy (to me) and I guess some might prefer the more commercial one outside. but to me this is the best cake based I had. Among the flavors my favorite is the key lime and strawberry and cream. The cream cheese topping is very creamy the the sweetness is just nice. Now I know which flavor I like, I guess I will be going back to get the regular size cupcakes!
