Times change and Prices fly OK Jun 05, 2013

I entered Republic Poly in 2007 and left in 2010. This place has maintained the same standard for the past few years that i have been there. All i have to say is that when i first entered and as a new student, you are getting used to the food and the new place you can't decide on where you are going to have your breaks or your lunch. The first day that i came here, i ate at this very stall. Back then it was called "Indonesian BBQ" with $2.80... ayam bakar (Grilled chicken and sweet sauce) with rice.... It was served with egg and the coconut curry as i can clearly remember.

Before i left school, I had the dish again and tried the ayam penyet. (Fried Smash chicken) served with the same items and the sambal wah... sedap la sia... Sedap to the max but... there is always a but in here.... It costs up to $4.50 before i left. That was the last of what i saw back in 2010.

Good days as Times change and prices fly....

Not consistent OK Jun 05, 2013

I have come to Serangoon Gardens many times to find out that this place has a very fluctuating standard of service.

I have been coming here for years and i have been hoping that its service will improved and sometimes i feel that it has been improving and it has been better and at times it has been declining in its standards of service.

For example during March this year, i was heading there since one of my friends is residing around that area. A simple meet up at a relaxing location was ideal for a Saturday night! The service was sub-standard and the food was below par.

A couple of weeks later i decided to head there again and their service was fantastic, very prompt and a lot of initiative was taken by the staff. Do take note, i will be very fair when it comes to service and comparison, with the crowd being about the same and the service staff being equal in strength. You can tell when a service staff is busy and when it isn't. Working in F&B, you might probably know..

To further prove my point, i went there a couple more times because the "chill" factor was there, an array of up and down service was being presented to us. Just booze and beers were consumed during the visits. We ordered a constant however, and that was the nachos chips with the cheese and salsa dip.. Cold cheese and nachos do not really go well together and furthermore, the dip was a measly squeeze and when we asked for a top up with payment, it was lesser and the reaction was priceless...

However, if you are looking for a chill here, just come order some booze and beer because the ambience is good, it is dark and there is English Premier League that plays on Saturday night.

Delivery from Spize Cafe Smile Jun 05, 2013

Celebrating my friends 21st birthday, we decided to order 2 types of food. One was pizza from Canadian Pizza and the other was from Spize Cafe...

We ordered a few items to celebrate our friends birthday. One was the Nasi Goreng Pattaya (Fried Rice in omelet), another dish was the Mee Goreng Seafood, 2 egg prata, 1 Rose syrup with milk (Bandung) and 1 Ice Milo....

I tasted quite a bit of this food, the Mee Goreng was not that oily, quite tasty and well mixed filled with the egg and a very sweet tomato sauce to accompany the food. One of the key things that it included was the seafood of course! It had the squid rings, the squid rings were not as rubbery as i thought it would be. The prawns were also juicy and quite fresh. Seems the standards were quite good and it remains quite food...

The Nasi Goreng Pattaya was really good. This dish was very surprising and it was quite good because a lot of this dish disappoints me a lot. It was quite moist and the portions were quite big for the price we paid around $7 for it... The omelet was covered well and the rice was warm when it arrived.

The Egg Prata was good big as well. Quite funny see to 4 persons to eat 2 egg prata.. But in the name of friendship everything funny seems pretty good... it comes in a brown wrapper for the delivery..

Lastly, we ordered 1 Bandung and 1 Sprite... to fit the basic order of the delivery. Now you may ask what i am talking about.

Spize restaurant has a delivery service in which they have a criteria to fit. Under this criteria, there are 2 checklists. One is minimum order and one is delivery charge. We ordered to a total of $27 for the food and drinks and since i was in zone 3, i had to pay $8 for the delivery charge coming up to a total of $35... Such an eventful day with some good food..

Din Tai Fung! XIAO LONG BAO! Smile Jun 04, 2013

Categories : Dim Sum

Just before my ORD, a couple of my friends and i were headed over to this outlet to try out their food. Located at the basement of Raffles City, this place is very busy! So i went earlier to queue up for my place. No reservations were allowed especially on the weekends. Unfortunately for us, we went on a Friday! I waited for about 30 minutes before seats were available. The one thing this place does is that for a table of 4, they fit in 6 people! Quite smart...

Anyways, this place was something i wanted to try for quite some time. I ordered Xiao Long Bao and Fried Rice with the deep fried pork chop. I spent around $25 including some drinks...

The Xiao Long Bao comes in 10 pcs... Juicy and tasty especially with the stew inside the dumpling. It has been said that it takes a special skill to make the XLB... Tasty but clearly not the best that i have tasted. Maybe it is due to overwhelming response so anyways, it is pretty goood for me.

The service is good and i actually put my chinese speaking knowledge to good use. They were pretty jovial about it but they were pretty Okay and served us quite well....

After Easter, my friends and I headed over to one of my friends place. Was recommended by my colleague to try out this place by delivery. It was 1 am at night and we were quite hungry. KFC and Pizza hut was closed... So was Canadian and Pastamania!

Our next choice was to actually order from this place. Having the 6 of us there, many of us actually ordered different things, my recommendation to them was actually to ask them to provide me with a simpler menu choice and so we saw the chicken. We ordered a whole chicken, cheese fries and drinks... The drinks.. i tell you ar some people really nonsense so i just ordered for everyone sprite and coke and they could argue over it.. We are all guys afterall...

We paid $35 for all the food... Tasted really good and tasty, if i am not wrong, i think we ordered some chicken wings as well to cater to our meals....

The southern chicken was tasty, juicy and also a bit oily. One of the better chickens that i have ever tasted... The fries were cheesy and oozy just like the name states oozy cheesy fries.

They came a bit late because the driver was a bit lost. He stopped at towner Road but we were at Whampoa Road...

Will definitely be back to order some more food from this place.
