Horfun OK May 24, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Food Court | Kids-Friendly

What caught my eye was the ribena fried rice. I wonder how would this taste. However, I was not courageous enough to try it.

Instead, I ordered the chicken horfun and they claim to have a chef special gravy for this horfun. Indeed, it is quite special. The gravy is sweet, something different from the usual gravy. The chicken wing is quite tender, but nothing very special. The horfun is well cooked too.

Cheng Teng OK May 15, 2011

Categories : Food Court | Desserts and Cakes

A sweet and refreshing dessert for the hot afternoon. The longan is very sweet and juicy, and is my favorite of it ingredients in the dessert. The white fungus is crunchy and good for complexion, as it is known as the poor man's bird nest. The dessert is not too sweet and makes one crave for more. It is a cheap dessert to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Sweet and Sour Fish, Mao Gua OK May 14, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre

This is a mixed vegetable stall which I patronized when my mum does not cook enough dishes. The mimimum amount for vegetables is $1.70 and for meat is $2.50. There is variety but they always have the same dishes so you will get sick of it if you have to get it everyday. The better dishes that they have are ‘gu ru rou’, sweet and sour fish, shrimps with long bean and ‘mao gua’.
The two dishes that I bought as shown in the pictures are sweet and sour fish and mao gua. The sweet and sour fish is fresh and the sauce is appetizing. The fish is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
As for the mao gua, it is a bit salty if you eat it without rice. It is cooked with carrots and dong fen.

Char Siew Rice OK May 12, 2011

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Food Court | Roasted Meat

This stall sells chicken rice, char siew rice as well as roasted meat rice. I decided to try the char siew rice today and I think the chicken rice taste better. The rice is cooked well as it is not soggy and very fragrant.

I was disappointed with the char siew I received as it was fatty and that leaves me with very little lean meat to go with my rice. The sweet sauce on the char siew was also marinated not well enough.

Char Siew Rice OK May 10, 2011

Categories : Hainanese | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

This stall sells chicken and char siew rice. At $3 per plate at a coffeeshop, I think the price is costly. Furthermore, there is a pretty good chicken rice stall nearby that sells at $1.50 per plate and the serving is pretty similar. The char siew is not the best that I have tried but at least it is not full of fats and not difficult to chew. I find the marination on the char siew not good enough. To give some credit, the rice is still pretty fragrant and they use chicken rice.
