Red Bean Pancake Smile Aug 30, 2011
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre

The pancake is soft, not overly starchy and has a light sweetness which makes it very tasty. Further, the edges are also crispy which makes it a joy to eat. The red bean filling is thick and the sweetness is just right. The red bean paste is evenly spread across the pancake and you could taste some red bean grains too. This is a good snack to go with coffee or soya milk.

Cheng Teng Smile Aug 30, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

Cheng Teng is a common dessert in Singapore which is known to dispel heatiness. This dessert can be served hot or cold depending on individual liking. I loved the cold ones due to the hot weather in Singapore. In the dessert, one can find dried longan, barley, lotus seed, white fungus, gingko and Pang Da Hai. There are lots of ingredients in it which made it one of my favourite dessert. The one from this stall is not sweet and has a nice pandan leaves aroma.

Kueh Lapis Smile Aug 30, 2011

Kueh Lapis is a nice snack to go with coffee. The kueh lapis has a very strong butter taste and it is not very oily. The butter fragrance makes it very addictive and does not make one get sick of it. Additionally, it is not very sweet too. It is freshly and skillfully made judging from the soft texture.

Tori Maru Cheese Wazen Smile Aug 30, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

I was craving for some Japanese dinner and decided to give this a try as it always has a pretty long queue. I ordered the Tori Maru Cheese Wazen. It comes with a cheese teriyaki fried chicken, soft shell crab, chawanmushi, rice, miso soup, a bowl of rice and two slices of oranges. The teriyaki chicken is tender and soft. Coupled with the sweet teriyaki sauce and cheese, this is a unique combination which is delicious. The chicken also comes with some mushrooms too. The chawanmushi is very smooth and the soup in it is sweet. The chawanmushi contains mushroom, chicken and gingko. I was a little disappointed with the soft shell crab as it has a little fishy taste which I think maybe due to it being not very fresh. The sauce given for the soft shell crab was not good and I dipped it with the teriyaki sauce instead which made it taste better. Overall, this is a very filling dinner.

Fried Carrot Cake Smile Aug 30, 2011
Categories : Hawker Centre

The carrot cake is evenly fried with egg and is very soft on the inside. It carries the fragrance of egg and also “chai po”. It is well-fried to golden brown and the egg is slightly crispy. The chilli and spring onion compliments the taste too. Further, the carrot cake does not make one thirsty after eating. The serving is pretty huge too.
