Steam crab Smile Jan 05, 2012

Categories : Seafood | Zi Char

I used to patronise the Long Beach at Marina South, and was a big fan of their steam crab. It has been awhile since I had eaten the same version of this steam crab after they moved away. Until my mother told me that the chef from marina south has been stationed at this outlet, I was elated. We always go for the alaksa crab which can be divided into 2 portion, 1 for steam and theother portion was fried with WHITE pepper. The claws were as big as my palm! And yet the meat was soft and sweet. My little girl can finished one claw by herself.. she also enjoyed it like we do! smile

cold soya bean Smile Jan 05, 2012

Categories : Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

I do not know since when that this crazy queue for soya bean started. The soya bean were sold out by lunch time when I go there after my meeting. So I decided to go back to try it on a weekday morning. There is 2 stall selling this bean curd. And the other stall was not opened when I was there. Probably I was really anticipating the great taste from this beancurd, which caused me to be really disappointed after tasting it. It was great but it is the similar bean curd which I had bought from marine parade central. But 51 soya bean do offer flavoured beancurd.Maybe that was the reason for the q....

fresh milk with grass jelly Smile Dec 30, 2011

Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

What a combination! Fresh milk with grass jelly...I never expected these 2 items to match so well. In the first place, I was not even aware that I had ordered fresh milk, as I was looking at the board and make my order...my mind was thinking about milk tea with grass jelly. The first sip was weird, so i walked back to see what i had ordered, but as I continued sipping, I began to enjoy it. Strongly recommended for people who do not enjoy drinking fresh milk as the milk taste is not as strong after being mixed with the grass jelly.

set lunch Smile Dec 28, 2011

Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Restaurant

Decided to give the set lunch menu a miss when we were there and went for some of their signature dishes. The bread was served in a flat "hot plate" similar to those that is used to place pizzas into the stone ovens. We could choose 2 flavours for the bread and went with the olive and macadamia. Apart from the usual butter and olive oil, there was a tube of in-house dipping for the bread. It had a tomato base and some other ingredient which I could not exactly make out, but went very well with the hot piping bread.

Also tried their signature what I call the "test-tube seafood platter", which was advised to be consumed in a certain order from light to heavy tasting so that our taste buds could savour the combination of the starter as a whole. I must say the taste for each "test-tube" was very well thought and each seafood (be it salmon, scallops, or oyster) combined with each different ice-blended fruit mix to perfection. At the end of the sampler, the strongest taste one (the oyster) would let you sit back and savour the taste of the entire dish. Kudos to the chef.

For the main course, we ordered the chicken breast and the grilled fish. As expected, the chicken breast was perfectly done, and when consumed with the accompanied sauce and veg, introduced an entirely new flavour that was very well planned. Even my hubby who doesnt take breast meat praised it. The grilled sol was also perfectly done, and the pumpkin complimented and brought the fish taste to a whole new level. Simply marvellous.

Dessert, a must try is the ice cream (with pepper) and the molten chocolate 'cake', with the hot molten chocolate mixed with the cold pepper ice cream in your mouth, another taste 'explosion' that cannot be described well with words. Lastly, the pana cotta, although not as outstanding as the ice cream and chocolate, was also nicely done, presented elegantly in a cocktail glass with the strawberry sauce revealed with each scoop. Will definitely go back to try their other dishes, and looking forward to it. smile

table for 6 Smile Dec 28, 2011
Categories : Italian | Restaurant | Pasta

The place was rather empty when we entered and there were lots of empty tables around. We were given one of the 6 seater table and we requested for the eight seater as we have a total of 6 adult and 1 child. But the staff refused to give us the empty seat and was told that it was reserved. We ended at around 9, the place was still quite empty. I really find their staff quite inflexible..

I must say that their food were really up to standard without burning our wallet. The soup was rich in flavour and with the right consistency. Calamari was done to perfection, not overcooked and tender to chew. Dessert was probably the highlight of the day, but shouldn't service be better at places like this.
