chopstickbowllol I have been trying to find good and inexpensive Chinese cuisine in Singapore but sometimes you're just running out of choice if you're not going to Imperial Treasure group of restaurants in Orchard.

Jia Wei is a new discovery and if we call it a hidden gem it could be fully justified.  We tried some traditional dish like clay pot salted fish with tofu the taste is great and the size and texture of tofu is just right where you could taste the sauce and the silkiness of tofu.  Just that salted fish could hardly be found in the clay pot.tongue

梅菜芥蘭 is fantastic as you could see the chewy part of kale have been removed and only the young and tender parts are served.  Sometimes it could not be found even in fine dining Chinese restaurants.  It's just that the 梅菜 is not good enough.  It shouldn't be related to the way how it is cooked but the ingredient is just not good enough as you could taste a little bit more sweetness from it but anyway it's just not very good it's still quite good.

Soup of the day is great and it's of truly Cantonese style.  Personally I don't like very herbal taste but instead the time spent on cooking the soup is more important.  We had the lotus root with pork soup and it's a good surprise.

Service is great and the waitresses really know what you want as I really hate telling them in every detail - as nowadays even robots are with AI and they could learn from experience.  If robots could do it why we need human beings as waitresses?!

In general we're very satisfied with the dishes and we will come again.

100% Hong Kong taste! Smile Aug 25, 2015

bowllollol It's newly opened at closed to Cuppage Plaza with its good name in Hong Kong one could easily imagine how long the queue is.

If you tried its wonton noodles in Hong Kong you could hardly forget it's soup as well as the shrimp wonton.  I tried the same in Singapore and the taste is exactly the same.  Very surprised.  If you really want to pick fault it may be that the shrimps are slightly less crispy here.

The noodles are well made (maybe simply imported).  No lye water taste.  smile And it's cooked well.  As its thin and and still al dente you could taste the soup favour.

We also tried the spicy minced pork noodles.  It may be adopted to make it a little bit more spicy and the colour of the sauce is darker but still it's a v good match with the noodles.  It's not just thick but the sauce and slightly fatty minced pork are wonderful match with the noodles.

The chives and ginger noodles is also very good.  It doesn't taste pale even though it's so plain.  Chives are so aromatic and ginger is thinly sliced, together with the little soup with the noodles even our vegetarian friends would like it.

What's really great is that the staff are fast and accurate.  It's again a replicate of the speediness of Hong Kong style service.

Great!

lollolmad It's not too close to anywhere but still if you don't drive taking a bus you just need to walk for around 8-10mins.  Located in Pasir Panjang although it's next to some other restaurants, it's very full when I went there on a Saturday morning for brunch.  The decoration is very welcoming.

We tried the signature ricotta hotcake.  It's colour it's wonderful.  Decorated by various fruits and the hotcake is fluffy and made me think of Bill's hotcake in Tokyo.  It's not sweetened with syrup but with the berries.  It made the whole dish much more healthy.

Then we had the kimchi fried rice.  It's a nice surprise as its matched with egg and minced meat which made the taste with more variety than merely came with kimchi.  You could easily finish it as you don't want to stop once you started.

I also ordered a cup of chocolate.  You could see from my picture it's presentation scores full mark!  It tastes also very chocolately as well.

Very good and we would come again.

Btw it doesn't charge 17% so don't forget to tip for its good service!
The egg on it tastes good!

bowlchopstickmadmadlol I just want to find good Chee Cheong Fun in the early morning of Sunday and I searched and searched and found this one.  V comfy decoration and with air-con, it serves Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun, pastries, Nasi Lemak etc.

Chee Cheong Fun is very good.  Unlike Cantonese ones it's slightly less chewy but softer, and dipped with its special sauce as I ordered Anson's special Cher Cheong Fun.  It served with picked pepper and it made the taste with more variety with a good mix of its crispness.  The curry pig skin is rare in other places and the dry curry sauce on it makes the taste very exciting,   We also tried the kaya puff. Really appreciate that it's served warm and its pastry is well made, light and crispy but not oily not greasy.  Kaya is sweet but not exceedingly sweet.

Nasi Lemak is awesome.  The sauce is complicated but not too thick.  Light but with good after taste in your cavity.  Very aromatic coconut rice.  Crispy but juicy and meaty chicken wing,  Peanuts and fish served are very crispy as well.  All things mixed really well which you could not miss.

That's why it stood for 70 years!

Excellent lobster roll! Smile Aug 07, 2015

madlolmad  I know this restaurant when I googled 'the best lobster in Singapore', and after I took away the Chinese restaurants, it's this one.  It's not easy to find another restaurant of similar which could prepare grill lobsters as they do, keeping the lobsters still moist and tender, I.e. Not overlooked.  The lobsters they picked are always very meaty.

This time I tried its lobster rolls, and it's even better!  Packed with brioche with its sweet taste matched nicely with the lobster meats with mayonnaise, and they chose mainly the meat in the claws which are more tender and juicy.

The mix of meat and bread is just right, not excessive meat which would fall from the brioche.

Also don't forget to tip the staff for their great service.  They don't charge 10% service fee.
