Wonderful carrot cake Smile Oct 08, 2012
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre

It was Sunday night and my girlfriend and I decided to have some good hawker food and we decided to head to Newton Food centre. We ordered the white carrot cake from Heng carrot cake stall.

The carrot cake was really yummy and the portion was really quite big considering we only bought the $4 portion. It's good enough to share. The down part was that we had to wait quite a while for the carrot cake to arrive as it was really popular. So, be prepared to wait if you are ordering from the shop. Worth the wait though.

lol

Food eaten: Fried Fish with lemon Butter sauce and additional side of fries ($2.50 for main and extra $1 for fries)

Likes: Very wallet friendly prices. Portions were big and therefore filling. Main also came with mushroom soup which was not in the photo. Lemon butter sauce was amazing.

Dislikes: As the stall is very popular due to the good food and prices, the queue and the wait was pretty long. We waited for around 15 minutes for our food. Recommended though. I really love this stall. tonguetonguetongue

Food was good, service was bad OK Oct 06, 2012

Felt a little hungry at night and wanted to have some simple food, went to the Hong Kong cafe at heartland mall as it is opened 24 hours.

Had "Yuan Yang", which was a combination of coffee and tea, chawamushi, fries and stir fry noodles. The food were reasonably priced and we spent only around $20 for the two of us eating. However, the service of this restaurant is found to be lacking. It took forever to get the waiter's attention to order our food. It took another 15 mins for the food to arrive and when my friend dropped her fork and was trying to get a waiter's attention to have it replaced, we spent around 5 more minutes trying to get the waiter's attention.

The food is great, but the service has to match up to it.

Saw this restaurant on deal.com.sg and my family of 5 decided to head down to try their buffet. One of the worst food decisions that we have made so far.

Bad Points:

1. Every deep fried dish had this really bad oil taste and smell that makes one nauseous, probably due to the oil being used for many batches.
2. Xiao Long Bao was more skin than meat and really hard to chew.
3. Even though the buffet was ala carte ordering style, some dim sum arrived cold.

After this experience, our family will never patronize this restaurant again. The only upside that night was the okay service that the waiters and waitresses provided. No reason to go back to that restaurant at all huffy

Delightful BBQ Prawns Smile Oct 06, 2012

Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Brunch

Headed down to Lau Pa Sat to enjoy some wonderful food with my girlfriend. Decided to order BBQ prawns from one of the Satay stalls over there (Juamin Satay)

What we ate and pricing: 5 BBQ prawns and 10 sticks of satay ($2 per prawn and $0.60 per satay)

Like: Prawn was fresh, succulent and well seasoned and wasn't over BBQ-ed. Satay had little fat and was also done well.

Dislike: Seller tried to recommend us one of the set menu, which contained way more food than we could have eaten. Seller should not try to tout and sell more food than what the consumer can consume. Other than that, the food was delicious!
