Thanks to the great folks at Faber Peak Singapore, I won $100 Faber Peak dining voucher in their recent Facebook Valentine's Day contest!

A brief background - Located at the top of the hill at Mount Faber, the premise was given a complete make over and transformed into a bright and colorful F&B joint. Spuds & Aprons (what a unique name!) brands itself as a fun and playful F&B joint serving up yummy east and west dishes. My wife and I patronized this lovely place on 21st February 2015 (3rd day of the CNY). Upon stepping into Spuds & Aprons, we were warmly greeted by their service staff and bought to our reserved seats promptly. To make eating a comforting affair, you can opt to chill out at the air-conditioned Dining Room or relax at the alfresco Garden. Whatever you choose, both locations offer breath taking view of Sentosa and the alluring city.

We opted for the a seat by the side in the alfresco garden as we like the gentle breeze and the open environment. We made the right choice with dinner in the late evening as we managed to catch the beautiful sunset from the comfort of our seats. Our neighbour diners were caught busy snapping photographs using their smartphone from their seats too!

Perhaps the best feature of Spuds & Aprons is the scenic view of the cable cars. Lights from the surrounding buildings and cable cars in the sky made the view even more picturesque. If you come to this place on a Saturday in the evening, you get to enjoy a bonus i.e. 8pm firework displays at Universal Studios Singapore. It was spectacular and awesome to watch the fireworks during CNY !!!

So much for the ambience, let's get started with the food and drinks!

For the starters, at the recommendation of the friendly service staff (Wingo), we ordered the Chilli Crab in a Tux. This dish was so appertizing! We did not realize that we finished it so quickly! The chef prepared hot chilli crab and stuffed it in potato skins. It was really delicious and if this is your first visit, I would recommend that you should try this dish.
Delicious! Must Order

For the main dishes, again at the recommendations of Wingo, we ordered Oven-roasted mustard marinated chicken and Crispy Pork Belly. The chicken was massaged and roasted till golden brown and served with homemade gravy and mashed spuds. The pork belly was soaked in a hot tub and slowly cooked until fork tender. It was perfectly crispy and yet tender. It was served with homemade pineapple pickle and roasted spuds.

For the desserts, we were undecided between two recommended choices i.e. Chempedak Bread and Jar of Happiness Ice cream. Finally, we left it in the good hands of Wingo who insisted that we should try something different. We ordered the Chempedak Bread & Butter Pudding. It was a croissant with creamy custard and chempedak (hot) served with Haagen Dazs Vanilla ice cream (cold). We ended the night with a nice and sweet comfort food.

For the drinks, we ordered the non-alcoholic mocktail and smoothies. My wife tried their famous Spuds & Aprons' Sodas With Nata D' Coco Jello  and wild berries. I tried their Minty Mango Madness. The soda was refreshing and fruity! My smoothies was a fushion of mango mix, mango sorbet, yogurt and mint syrup. We enjoyed ourselves very much by sipping the drinks slowly while enjoying the beautiful sunset!

Special thanks to Ms Jaslyn Toh who helped us with the prize collection, reservation, excellent customer service, recommendations and "best view" seating arrangement! In addition, special thanks to Mr Wingo for his friendliness, hospitality, excellent customer service and food and drinks recommendations at Spuds & Aprons.

I was delighted to be invited to attend Hotel Re! @ Pearl's Hill media brunch launch on 2nd September 2014.

I am not new to Hotel Re! as previously I have tried their renowned Abalone Seafood Laksa which is really amazing. Hence, I look forward to try their new brunch which will be launched on 6th September 2014.

For those who are new to Hotel Re!, it is really a modern retro themed hotel situated at the base of Pearl's Hill, on Chin Swee Road. Hotel Re! encloses guests in a serene environment and it is just a stone's throw away from attractions like Chinatown, Clark Quay and Orchard Road.

Hotel Re! will launch healthy and nutritious brunch food and the new menu was specially crafted by Executive Chef William Ang. Here are the five detectable creations:

1. Classic Breakfast
Must have English breakfast

Must have English breakfast

As the name implies, this is really a classic breakfast for those who like the must have English breakfast items such as hash browns, chicken sausage, baked beans, toasted bread and turkey bacon. I love the turkey bacon the most. It is not salty and it is extremely crispy.

2. Salmon Bagel
Very interesting presentation!

Very interesting presentation!

Indulge in smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and grilled tomatoes. I love the mesclun salad the most. Don't you think the presentation is very interesting?

3. Slipper Lobster Croissant
Best Croissant! I love it!

Best Croissant! I love it!

This has to be the highlight of all the dishes presented. Nothing is short of premium when this delicious croissant is generous filled with a mixed of grilled slipper lobster tossed with celery, chive, tomato in Japanese dressing and tobiko. It is Chef William's best creation in my opinion. For repeat visit, I will order this dish. You must definitely add on the truffle fries! You will keep asking for more as it is really irresistible!

4. Egg-citing Benedict
Amazing poached eggs resting on toasted English muffin base!

Amazing poached eggs resting on toasted English muffin base!

I learnt that it took countless weeks of experimenting to perfect this recipe by Chef William. These poached eggs rested on the toasted English muffin base, layered with generous serving of turkey ham or smoked salmon, mushroom and grilled baby tomatoes and mesclun salad will make your breakfast really memorable.

5. BeRe!Licious Pancake
Delicious pancake - a favourite comfort food!

The berries and strawberries are fresh and sweet. The pancake is drizzed with chocolate and strawberry sauce. However, you can opt for butter and maple syrup for a healthier choice. Very nice.

Hotel Re! will start serving the new brunch on 6th September 2014. The weekend brunch starts from 10am to 2pm. You can treat your loved ones to all five detectable creations at 20% off in September 2014. For reservation, you may call 68278226.

I would like to thank Executive Chef William Ang, Marketing Manager Eunice Nicole Lim and Marketing Executive Cordelia Liau for their hospitality during the media brunch.

Thanks to Chef's Noodle Singapore Facebook, some of us have a chance to be up and personal with award winning Korean Celebrity Chef Choi from "The Starking Series" at the newly opened Chef's Noodle outlet in Jurong Point.

Appetiser 1 : Buchu Saeu Twigim, Mandu Twigim Gamja Goroke
These are popular side dish and Korean street food. Buchu Saeu Twigim are chives and shrimps fritter. I found the serving too generous and I have to break it into small chucks. Mandu twigim is deep fried seafood dumplings. It tastes like fried wanton but the difference is the special wasabi dipping sauce which is hot hot hot! Gamja Goroke is deep fried croquettes. I like this savoury sweet appetiser the most as it is made of potato and yam paste.

Appetiser 2 : Bossam
This is pork belly wrap. The vegetable is extremely fresh. The pork is juicy. I was told to prepare the wrap by placing pork belly, special Jang condiment, sliced raw garlic, sliced raw chilli and kimchi pickle in the large lettuce. In Korea, it is common to eat bossam in one gob!

Main Course 1 : Chef's Guksoo
This is their signature noodle dish! If this is your first visit, it is recommended to try this main course. I enjoy the soft textured noodles cooked with a concentrated broth! The logo on the egg pancake is personally hand-stamped by the Chef to retain the original Chef's Noodle logo. It requires dedicated skills to do it. Other ingredients include fresh vegetable garnishes, pork, beancurb, chives, silver sprout and seafood. This is really yummy and delicious!

Main Course 2 : Chef's Bibim Guksoo
This is their signature dried noodle which is loaded with delicious sauteed prok bulgogi. The shredded seaweed (imported from Korea) is simply awesome and fantastic! For those who love dried chilled noodle, you will enjoy this dish. I was told that in order to accommodate to our local Singaporean's taste, they have actually reduced the amount of chilli! In Korea, it will be much hotter for the same dish!

Drink : Iced Rubus Tea
Our meal will not be completed without this special iced rubus tea. I was told it was made with a special type of berries. It is light and sweet and it is a good compliment to the food.

Conclusion
My experience with Chef's Noodle is positive! If you are looking for traditional Korean food  mixed with a modern fushion twist, this is the place to go!

Highly recommended!

Food Tasting Smile Jun 26, 2014

I was happy to be invited by Nightdowhat and Openrice for a food tasting event at Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro (QSFB) in Sentosa. I met up with another 2 OpenSnap users (Shermaine and Yun Hwa) and the 3 of us had a good time yesterday. My review are as below:

QSFB
This place has a wonderful cozy, fisherman themed atmosphere. I love the beautiful yacht scenery during sunset. This place attracts people who are into Mediterranean cuisine.
External scenery

External scenery

Rekorderlig Cider

The cider is pink with amazing inviting strawberry aroma. The taste is sweet with a subtle lime under tone. I found out Rekorderlig ciders come in at low ABV which makes this an exceptional refreshing drink.

Tuna Tataki

The cut of tuna fish were fresh and the sauces that complemented it married well. I like the pear crumble which Shida told us has a special yuzu taste.

Baked Barramundi

They served the barramundi whole and I love the red wine poached pear with lobster butter sauce and fried chorizo. There is a modern twist on the traditional dish which highlighted barramundi versatility.

QSFB's signature chilli crab linguine

Hey presto! I really whacked the whole plate of sweet and chilly linguine! The soft shell crabs are not overbattered or overfried and the crunch comes from the fried batter.

Homemade Tiramisu

The menu reads "The best in Sentosa, some say Singapore!" The rich rum and coffee-soaked lady fingers layered with generous custard and whipped cream leaves me wanting MORE! Really awesome dessert to wrap up for the day!

In conclusion, I will give a thumbs up for this great restaurant! Not only is the food wonderful (and aesthetically pleasant looking), the people are friendly and customer oriented and the atmosphere is pretty awesome as well.

Give this place a try!

Thank you
Special thanks to Reka (OpenRice), Eli and Sharon (Nightdowhat) and Shida (QSFB) for the invitation and hospitality and hosting us for the sumptuous dinner!
