Our office is located at The Metropolis. My colleague invited some of us for an early Christmas lunch at IKKI Izakaya Japanese Restaurant (located in the same building)which is within a very short walking distance from our office.

IKKI Izakaya was opened a few months ago by Adam Chen, who has already opened a number of other eateries in Singapore over the years. The restaurant offers 95 seats and the interior design of the restaurant is modern and blended with casual Japanese arts and drawings.

For the lunch menu, there is a wide variety and selection such as Set Lunch, Sashimi, Sushi, Maki Roll, Rice, Udon and Appertizers.

As we went for the lunch as a group, each of us ordered something different. I ordered the Fried Chicken Set. For $12 a set, I was served the fried chicken, a bowl of miso soup, a bowl of rice, a bowl of salad and two slices of watermelon, which was quite value for money. The fried chicken were delicous and the servings were generous with big chunks of chicken pieces.

My colleagues ordered other popular dishes such as Salmon Teriyaki Set, California Maki, Ebi Mayo Maki Prawn Tempura with Mayo and Sesame seed, Udon Broth & Bara Chirashi, Tempura Set, Tuna Sashimi Don, Stir Fried Giner Pork Set etc. The quality of the food was reasonable. It would be consistent with what you can get from equivalent Japanese Restaurant. However, the food were delivered promptly which delighted us. The waitress were also polite and provided satisfactory customer services.

Overall, it is a cool place to hang out, especially since it is so near to our office and we do not need to find car park space during lunch peak.

Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant is centrally and conveniently located at the Singapore Marriot Hotel in Orchard Road. Wao Hao Chinese Restaurant is also famous for serving authentic Chinese food ad my wife and I look forward to their highly anticipated Chinese dinner.

Reservation is required for dining at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant. Upon arrival, we waited for a short period outside the entrance of the restaurant before the waitress ushered us to a comfortable corner seat for two.

For varieties, we have decided to try their ala cart menu instead of their value for money set dinner which is also available.

Double Boiled Chicken With Conch and Dried Snow Lotus
Nourishing and Freshly Brewed!

Nourishing and Freshly Brewed!

For a start, we tried their double boiled soup. The soup is fragrant and rich and nourishing. The chicken meat is smooth and tender.

Hot and Sour Soup With Assorted Seafood and Shredded Bean Curb
Tasty & Appertizing!

Tasty & Appertizing!

Though this is a common soup in most Chinese restaurant, the one served here was really tasty and appertizing. The bean curb were evenly shredded and the combination of hot and sour was very balanced.

Poached Chinese Spinach Assorted Egg Superior Broth
The spinach is extremely fresh and delicious!

The spinach is extremely fresh and delicious!

The spinach vegetables were soft and tasty. Even people who do not enjoy green vegetables will enjoy this dish, if you mix the broth and soupy egg with rice.

Deep Fried Crispy Chicken
The chicken is crispy and the cod fish chips are nice and addictive!

The chicken is crispy and the cod fish chips are nice and addictive!

The chicken were crispy (especially the skin) and complemented the rice. However, the best part of this dish was really the bowl of cod fish chips in the form of sticks. In fact, the chips were so addictive that we finished the chips before the chicken!

Deep Fried Crispy Pan Cake Red Bean Paste
Sweet comfort food as dessert!

Sweet comfort food as dessert!

The servings were generous for the two of us and we couldn't finish so many piece of the fried crispy pan cake. It was okay only but probably we had ordered too many other fried items earlier.

Chilled Mango Pudding
Sweet Dessert for the Day!

Sweet Dessert for the Day!

There were some cocktails in the center of the chilled mango pudding. Another comfort food to wrap up the dinner.

Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant. The waitress were very polite and provided excellent customer services. They frequently checked on our table to ensure that the dishes were promptly served. They also ensure are tea are topped up regularly. I would recommend this restaurant to others.

I was delighted to be invited to attend Hotel Re! @ Pearl's Hill media brunch launch on 2nd September 2014.

I am not new to Hotel Re! as previously I have tried their renowned Abalone Seafood Laksa which is really amazing. Hence, I look forward to try their new brunch which will be launched on 6th September 2014.

For those who are new to Hotel Re!, it is really a modern retro themed hotel situated at the base of Pearl's Hill, on Chin Swee Road. Hotel Re! encloses guests in a serene environment and it is just a stone's throw away from attractions like Chinatown, Clark Quay and Orchard Road.

Hotel Re! will launch healthy and nutritious brunch food and the new menu was specially crafted by Executive Chef William Ang. Here are the five detectable creations:

1. Classic Breakfast
Must have English breakfast

Must have English breakfast

As the name implies, this is really a classic breakfast for those who like the must have English breakfast items such as hash browns, chicken sausage, baked beans, toasted bread and turkey bacon. I love the turkey bacon the most. It is not salty and it is extremely crispy.

2. Salmon Bagel
Very interesting presentation!

Very interesting presentation!

Indulge in smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and grilled tomatoes. I love the mesclun salad the most. Don't you think the presentation is very interesting?

3. Slipper Lobster Croissant
Best Croissant! I love it!

Best Croissant! I love it!

This has to be the highlight of all the dishes presented. Nothing is short of premium when this delicious croissant is generous filled with a mixed of grilled slipper lobster tossed with celery, chive, tomato in Japanese dressing and tobiko. It is Chef William's best creation in my opinion. For repeat visit, I will order this dish. You must definitely add on the truffle fries! You will keep asking for more as it is really irresistible!

4. Egg-citing Benedict
Amazing poached eggs resting on toasted English muffin base!

Amazing poached eggs resting on toasted English muffin base!

I learnt that it took countless weeks of experimenting to perfect this recipe by Chef William. These poached eggs rested on the toasted English muffin base, layered with generous serving of turkey ham or smoked salmon, mushroom and grilled baby tomatoes and mesclun salad will make your breakfast really memorable.

5. BeRe!Licious Pancake
Delicious pancake - a favourite comfort food!

Delicious pancake - a favourite comfort food!

The berries and strawberries are fresh and sweet. The pancake is drizzed with chocolate and strawberry sauce. However, you can opt for butter and maple syrup for a healthier choice. Very nice.

Hotel Re! will start serving the new brunch on 6th September 2014. The weekend brunch starts from 10am to 2pm. You can treat your loved ones to all five detectable creations at 20% off in September 2014. For reservation, you may call 68278226.

I would like to thank Executive Chef William Ang, Marketing Manager Eunice Nicole Lim and Marketing Executive Cordelia Liau for their hospitality during the media brunch.

Flee Away From Your Troubles Smile Aug 10, 2014

Categories : Café

Thank you OpenRice, Nikon Singapore and Flee Away Cafe for hosting the food tasting session for OpenSnap winners and other bloggers on 5th August 2014.

When I first received email notification from OpenRice, I have to confess I was intrigued. What a unique name! Why Flee Away and where is this place? I've never heard of this cafe before.

When I arrived at the cafe, my questions were answered!

Flee Away Cafe brings back a lot of nostalgia and childhood memories - from the store decoration, the toys, the tables and chairs setup, the food and the friendly staff. Though they are not your usual modern and sleek cafe, it brings certain carefree charm and warmth. I felt very relaxed and comfortable dining here.

I found out that Flee Away Cafe was just opened in June 2014 and it is located at 70 Dunlop Street. I parked my car at the nearby shopping mall (The Verge) and within a short walking distance, I found this unique cafe along the vibrant colored Dunlop Street.

Besides food, Flee Away Cafe sells very interesting toys or collectible items. For example, I bought this miniature classic Volkswagen Vintage Bus for SGD16. It was the last piece left and I took it happily as I'm a great fans of classic Volkswagen vehicles.

As I was so engrossed in looking around inside the cafe, I neglected the timing and I managed to try 3 only food as listed below. Opps, Sorry!

Le Char Kuey with Coleslawsmile
This is their signature dish. The owner, Lynn, is kind enough to explain to me why she labelled this dish as Le Char Kuey. She said, imagine this dish like a huge dough fritter or "you tiao" stuffed with local delights such as laksa, bak kwa, coleslaw, etc. She wanted to create something unique in Singapore. Fantastics! I think she did it! I simply love the one stuffed with coleslaw fillings, which is fresh, light and extremely tasty. I will still want to order this dish again for my next visit.
Fresh, light and extremely tasty!

Irish Cream Mud Piesmile
My interpretation of this type of mud pie can best be described as chocolate and coffee ice cream swirled together. A dessert chef and friend told me that to achieve a balanced taste for this type of mud pie, you need to ensure not to have too much chocolate to overpower the palate. Hence, the Irish coffee component plays an important role to balance everything out. This mud pie is slightly too sweet for my taste bud. However, the pie is worthy if you are a coffee and chocolate ice cream lover. I have to praise the lovely presentation though with the layout and random chocolate drips on the serving plate.

Waffle with Gula Melaka Puddingsmile
The waffle was very crispy even though it was quite thick. The sago or tapioca pudding with Gula Melaka syrup is just nice and not too sweet. In fact, it reminded me of my Penang trip many years ago and their famous Gula Melaka Chendol dessert. Yummy, you can't just get enough of this comfort food.
Yummy and Awesome comfort food. Must Try!

Lastly, as my review title suggests, give this Cafe a shot if you wish to flee away from your troubles and enjoy a happy meal. Thank you.

Thanks to Chef's Noodle Singapore Facebook, some of us have a chance to be up and personal with award winning Korean Celebrity Chef Choi from "The Starking Series" at the newly opened Chef's Noodle outlet in Jurong Point.

Appetiser 1 : Buchu Saeu Twigim, Mandu Twigim Gamja Goroke
These are popular side dish and Korean street food. Buchu Saeu Twigim are chives and shrimps fritter. I found the serving too generous and I have to break it into small chucks. Mandu twigim is deep fried seafood dumplings. It tastes like fried wanton but the difference is the special wasabi dipping sauce which is hot hot hot! Gamja Goroke is deep fried croquettes. I like this savoury sweet appetiser the most as it is made of potato and yam paste.

Appetiser 2 : Bossam
This is pork belly wrap. The vegetable is extremely fresh. The pork is juicy. I was told to prepare the wrap by placing pork belly, special Jang condiment, sliced raw garlic, sliced raw chilli and kimchi pickle in the large lettuce. In Korea, it is common to eat bossam in one gob!

Main Course 1 : Chef's Guksoo
This is their signature noodle dish! If this is your first visit, it is recommended to try this main course. I enjoy the soft textured noodles cooked with a concentrated broth! The logo on the egg pancake is personally hand-stamped by the Chef to retain the original Chef's Noodle logo. It requires dedicated skills to do it. Other ingredients include fresh vegetable garnishes, pork, beancurb, chives, silver sprout and seafood. This is really yummy and delicious!

Main Course 2 : Chef's Bibim Guksoo
This is their signature dried noodle which is loaded with delicious sauteed prok bulgogi. The shredded seaweed (imported from Korea) is simply awesome and fantastic! For those who love dried chilled noodle, you will enjoy this dish. I was told that in order to accommodate to our local Singaporean's taste, they have actually reduced the amount of chilli! In Korea, it will be much hotter for the same dish!

Drink : Iced Rubus Tea
Our meal will not be completed without this special iced rubus tea. I was told it was made with a special type of berries. It is light and sweet and it is a good compliment to the food.

Conclusion
My experience with Chef's Noodle is positive! If you are looking for traditional Korean food  mixed with a modern fushion twist, this is the place to go!

Highly recommended!
