Definitely gives me the WoW.  Smile Dec 05, 2012

At ABC food center, there is a wide variety of dishes to choose. There is the delicious fried hokkien mee, the well-cooked claypot rice, famous thick longtong and many others. To those peeps out there who have made all the way from other parts of Singapore to ABC food center, you have definitely made the right choice. There is a food choice for each and every person.

Today, I decide to satisfy my craving for chicken chop. There are a 3 stalls which sell chicken chop. But I decide to eat at Wow Wow West. Why? Look at my picture below and you will definitely be enlightened. As the saying goes" A picture speaks a thousand words"

Service is fast. You do not have to wait long for your food to arrive on your table. The portion of chicken is huge! More than enough for 1 person. Perhaps, in future, I would order it and share it with my gf. The gravy sauce is thick and overflowing the whole chicken chop. Definitely adds on flavor to the chicken chop. Thumbs up!

For the sides, they offer coleslaw and french fries. The portion of coleslaw is quite a big amount too. For the fries, it is not as much as the coleslaw. Nevertheless, I don't mind, as I don't like to eat french fries. Coleslaw is prepared well. The mayonnaise quite thick and isn't watery.

To conclude, the chicken chop provides a good deal for those guys who are looking for a full and protein-saturated meal should eat at Wow Wow West. And it is only for $6. Definitely a deal-breaker. If only, they have a choice of healthy sides like Astons, I would definitely patronize it more often.

My gf and I were walking around in RWS, wondering what to eat. There are many restaurants, but most of them are out of our budget. There is a Malaysian food street, but we wanted a quiet place for us to chit chat while having dinner.

We came across Aston Specialities restaurant. It is tucked in a quiet corner of RWS. It is away from the crowd who are here at RWS for casino and USS. Price was not high for a couple on a budget.

We reached the restaurant at around 530pm. So there isn't any queues. We are ushered smoothly to a table. Service and environment was pleasant.

Astons offers a wide variety of food, ranging from chicken, fish, spaghetti to steaks. For every poultry meat, it gives customer a variety of ways to be cooked. There is indeed something for every customer.

We are looking to make this a healthy meal. Therefore we choose grilled food, instead of fried food. And both of us choose chicken, as it provides good proteins for our bodies.

I ordered Teriyaki Chicken ($7.90). My gf chose Chargrill Chicken ($7.90). The most wonderful thing about Aston is that there is a list of side dishes for us to choose. Unlike other restaurants, where you have to eat whatever sides they serve you and most notably, there would be the unhealthy french fries. sad

In Astons, each of us not only can choose 1 side, but 2 sides! As every customer has personal preference, there are cold and hot side dishes. Good!

I have always have a special preference for hot side dishes, notably baked potato, which is my favorite. Astons offers it on their menu, therefore I immediately chose it as one of my side dish. The next side that I chose is garden veggie, to make this a balanced meal for my dinner.
For my gf, she chose coleslaw and mashed potato.

Serving of food to our table is fast. Both of our grilled chicken is cooked well. It was up to my expectations for a simple and budget dinner in an expensive place like RWS. The side dishes are wonderful too. The baked potato was not dry, due to a large portion of butter was served on top of it. Complimentary water was also served.

I certainly have full of praises for Astons Specialities restaurant. I will definitely keep this restaurant in mind, whenever I am at RWS.

Sumptutous lunch @ PuTien Smile Dec 05, 2012

I went out with my gf's family on a Sat's afternoon to PuTien. We wanted to eat Chinese cuisine. And this restaurant was on our top's list. It is listed as one of the top 50 restaurants in Singapore, by Straits Times Newspaper. The quality of the food is consistent in all branches.

The restaurant was quite fully packed when we reached at 1230pm, on a public holiday. Luckily, we have made reservation beforehand. Therefore we do not have to wait for a table.

Service is tip-top, with the waitress mostly Chinese. Therefore, it is easier for us to converse in Chinese on the dishes. We ordered Pu-er as our tea. It was fragrant.

On every table, there is a small pot of chilli sauce. It is claimed to be made exclusively in Pu-Tien restaurant. It wasn't too spicy. I can taste the freshness of the chilli sauce.

We ordered Set Menu A for 4 Pax. It costs $108++. It comes with 1) Starters platter 2) Braised beancurd with chinese cabbage 3) Steamed seabass with chilli 4) Deep fried pork ribs 5) Stir-fried yam 6) Choice of main course - Mee Sua 7) Complimentary dessert.

Firstly, they serve 2 starters. One is mini octopus dish. The other is Fa Cai. As my gf and her family members do not like to eat octopus, we told the waitress that we dislike the octopus dish, and request for a change, if possible. The waitress went to look for the manager. The manager came and find out what was the problem. We explained it again. To my unhappiness, the manager remarked that we should have told the waitress that we dislike to eat seafood when we placed our orders. Reluctantly, he told us that he try to change to another dish for us. In my mind, I was thinking that on the menu, it didn't state that the starter dishes contain a plate full of octopus. It merely states "Starters Platter". How should I be able to list out a long list of food items which I dislike? Nevertheless, we didn't allow the manager's attitude to spoil our mood.

Next came the pot of braised beancurd with chinese cabbage. The soup servings is plentiful, allowing each person to have 2nd or 3rd servings. The soup is sweet and soothing to the stomach. Our taste buds are opened up immediately.

Then it was the stir-fried yam. Yam was cooked amazingly well. My gf's family memebers praised it too. In the past, I don't have much liking for yam. But after eating this, I have a fond for yam dishes. smile

Next, it was steamed seabass with chilli. It was a huge piece of seabass fish. Fresh and steamed perfectly well. There isn't any fishy smell too. All of us enjoyed it a lot. Ample servings for each person too .

Next it was the deep-fried pork ribs. It was fried well. Not too oily. The well-made gravy on the ribs adds onto the taste of the pork ribs.

With the dishes more or less done, the mee sua came. I feel this is the main character in this menu. It is cooked very well. Lots of fantastic ingredients in the mee sua, which makes it very delicious and fragrant. All of us enjoyed it alot.

Last but not the least, came the yam dessert. It is presented very well, with sort of pattern like a flower blossoming. It tastes sweet and great too. It adds a final touch to the great food that we had beforehand.

To conclude, all of us have full praises for food in Pu Tien restaurant. We will definitely recommend our family and friends to this place again.

It was the 2nd anniversary of my relationship with my gf. We decided to celebrate it by having a cuisine, which we never had it before: french cuisine. We chose this place as it is located at Rochester area, which was touted to be quiet and peaceful for couple dating.

On that day, after our work has ended, we made our way towards the restaurant. It was not too far away from the Buona Vista mrt station, around 10-12mins way. Along the way, you will pass by Rochester Mall.

Upon reaching the restaurant, it was indeed quiet and peaceful. Only 4-5 tables are taken up. As I have made a reservation beforehand, they have gave us a table at a quiet corner. Complimentary ice water was given too

The menu has quite a good variety of dishes to choose from, from bites, starters, soup to main course and desserts. Wine is also available, if u are in the mood to drink.

First dish is the Seared Scallop ($16.80). It is pan seared Hokkaido scallops, with tomato relish and crabmeat. The scallops were quite meaty. They were seared well, without being overcooked

Next came the Nicoise Salad ($14.80). It is a garden salad, filled with boiled potatoes, hard boiled eggs, capsicum, fine beans, black olives, white anchovies, topped with seared smoked tuna with french dressing. The salad uses fresh leaves and toppings. Tuna is smoked well too . Portion is sufficient for the 2 of us to have some greens before we go onto our main courses.

Next came our bowl of soup ($11.80). It is the French onion soup. We chose this, because this is a French restaurant. It should be their signature soup. It has a strong onion taste, which is quite overbearing for us. The serving size for the bowl of soup is quite small, since it is priced more than $10. I have expected a bigger size or some good ingredients inside it.

For main course, I have ordered Tuna Steak ($25.80). It is a flame-kissed tuna, which comes with grilled vegetables, tomato and mango salad accompanied with balsamic vinaigrette. I am a big fan of Tuna. So naturally, I would choose this dish. It is a huge chunky piece of tuna, placed on the center of my plate. I guessed it should weigh around 300-400g. The tuna is fresh and cooked perfectly well. Side salad was prepared well, to add on to the taste of tuna.

My gf ordered Seafood Paella Rice ($28.80). It is baked spanish bomba rice, accompanied with sauteed seafood. For this, we do not have high praises for it. The colour of the dish was too yellowish, which makes it look a curry rice. Taste was just average. We didn't finish up the rice too.

For the service, I would not rate highly. It was quite hard to get the attention of the waitress at times. They would stand at a table, which was quite a distance from our table. Nevertheless, the service is still there.

All in all, this restaurant is a good place for couple dating. It is away from the busy city of Singapore. Good for couples to chit chat softly, without raising the voices. smile

Good lunch venue for weekdays Smile Nov 07, 2012

My gf and I decided to have lunch buffet at Starz restaurant after we checked out of the amazing Hard Rock Hotel. The ambiance is quiet and good for a couple dates who want to avoid the large crowds at the restaurants near the casino and Universal Studios.

The food choices are quite plentiful, but not a wide spread of choices. Service is prompt, as the waitress would initiate to serve you coffee or tea when they noticed that you are finishing your desserts.

The drunken prawns in soup is delicious and freshly cooked on the spot.

The wagyu mini burgers must not be missed either.

Fresh seafood choices are plentiful, with snow crabs, prawns, mussels

We also like the cold dessert- barley soup. Good for your stomach after having a hearty buffet. smile
