Once you enter Marina Square on the 2nd floor, you will see Lady M on the left of the entrance. Donned in white, Lady M presents a chic minimalist theme which puts the focus on its cakes that are of different colors. I really like the simplicity of the setting, with occasional flowers and plant on the table. Waiters and waitresses are also dressed in Black to contrast with the white setting.

The waiter politely ushered us to a sit and passed us the menu. We were also told that we can walk to the displays to look at the cakes and desserts offered before deciding what we would like to try. Apart from Mille Creps, they offer other selections such as cheesecakes, eclairs and tarts. We note that the prices range from $5.50 to $10 for the eclairs and tarts.

Vanilla Mille Crepe ($7.50 a slice) is a definite must-order, especially for first-time patrons. After tasting it, I would say that it doesn't disappoint! This signature cake has 20 layers of crepe infused with cream in between the layers. I like how thin the layers are and how the crepe and cream complement perfectly with each other. The cake is fragrant without being too sweet. I think I can easily down 2 cakes without feeling sick of it!

I was really hoping to try the Green Tea Mille Crepe as well but sadly, it had a seasonal cake sticker over it on the menu. The waiter told us that it is not always available.

Hence, we decided to try the Banana Mille Feuille ($8 a slice). Mille Feuille is usually made up of three layers of puff pastry and two layers of crème pâtissière. The one here has vanilla sponge cake and bananas in it. What I really like about the Mille Feuille is that although the cream makes up a large portion of the cake, the cream has a tinge of banana flavor, making it very fragrant.

Checker ($8) is a visually pleasing cake. A simple choclolate and vanilla sponge cake topped with chocolate ganache, Checker is different from your usual chocolate and vanilla cake as it isn't as sweet. The sponge layers are also fluffy and tasty, I especially like the Ganache layer which gives the cake a delectable touch.

Gateau Nuage ($7.50) looks like an ordinary cheesecake but, it is actually more than that. Atop the nicely whipped cheesecake base and Graham crackers crust is a thin layer of sour cream. Gatrau Nuage actually means "cloud cake". The melt-in-your-mouth cheese makes you feel that you tastebuds have accelerated up into the air.

I would love to try their other cakes such as theGateau Aux Marrons ($7.50), which reminds me of a mont blanc. It is actually an almond flour cake with whipped cream and chestnut cream. I will definitely be back to try their other cakes!

Lady M also serves coffee and tea for customers who want a drink to pair with the sweets. The coffee and tea are priced below $10 and are quite friendly to the pocket.

Overall, I would recommend Mille Crepe Cake lovers to try out Lady M's signature Mille Crepe! If you want to avoid the taxes, you can takeaway too. For those who have tried the other flavors, do let us know what is your favorite flavor by commenting on our post! smile

For more photos and full review, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2013/10/symmetry-thumbsforfood.html

I have been wanting to visit Symmetry for a while as I have heard positive reviews about their brunch. Well, I didn't get to try their breakfast menu though as I headed down on a Friday afternoon and all they had was their Lunch menu. There was a wide selection of food though, and some choices of breakfast food for people craving for some comfort breakfast food.

I really like the decorations in the shop and it made me feel like I was transported back to a cafe in Melbourne. I love the cafe culture in Melbourne and in New Zealand!

Potato Fries (With Truffle Oil) $15. Well, I would say this can match up to the truffle fries at P.S cafe in terms of the portion. Really huge but we still managed to finish it. Deep deep love for anything & everything that has truffle in it [: The truffle taste sort of died out towards the end though but it was good enough for us!

Truffle Eggs & Mushroom. We came with our heart and mind prepared for some hearty brunch so we decided to order a classic breakfast meal! The portion was good & I loved the mushrooms so much. There's a mixture of different mushrooms but my favourite got to be the oysters mushroom. Really tasty! The scrambled eggs was pretty normal though. Oh yes, the berries flavoured butter is something that I have not tried before and it went so well with the bread. If only I could have more of that for my bread!

They have free wifi as well so I managed to get some work done there! Love cafes that have free wifi!

Flat White. The coffee is definitely up to the standards. Do you know that they brew their coffee with a $30,000 American Slayer Espresso Machine?

Overall, I would say that Symmetry serves quite decent food. The price may not be the most affordable though! I would definitely head down to try the Brunch Menu next time round. Really wanted to try some of their items on the menu!

For full reviews and more photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2013/10/the-tiramisu-hero-cafe-thumbsforfood.html

It is not difficult to spot Tiramisu Hero from afar! As you can see from the photo below, when you arrive at the shop, you will spot the big signage as well as the garden-like alfresco dining area. I really like the entrance of the shop as it is spacious and inviting. It also has a smoking area for patrons who wish to take a smoke break.

As you step into the shop, The Tiramisu Hero's mascot, Sir Antonio greets you at every corner of the wall. What we really like about the interior is the ladders hanging upside down from the ceilings. Lights are wrapped around the ladder which helps illuminate the places as well as add a creative touch to the design. The whole place gives off a relaxed and comfortable vibe while achieving a chic minimalist stance. We could feel that the owners really placed a lot of effort in decorating the shop to bring out it's own unique character and style.

The must-try when we are in The Tiramisu Hero's cafe is their signature Tiramisu. Here in their cafe, they offer various sizes of Tiramisu that will match your group's size. Also, they have all the flavors and some special ones include Horlick, Lavendar, Lemon and such. Sadly, when we were there, only Original and Milo were available. We decided to try the Milo flavoured, MommaHero ($7.90), good for one.

We were really surprised when we saw that the menu consists of dishes like Tom Yum Goong and Thai Basil Pork Rice which we don't really see appear on the usual brunch menu. Piqued, we decided to order the Thai Basil Pork Rice ($12.50) as we wanted to try something different. Looking at the photo below, it doesn't look very photogenic, but, the dish was really appetizing and quite tasty. We would recommend this dish to those who prefer something other than your usual brunch.

Overall, we feel that The Tiramisu Hero Cafe is a great place for friends to hang out and we will be back to chill out with our friends over some coffee. Do drop by if you are in the area even if it's just to grab some tiramisu to takeaway or look at the beautiful and well-thought decorations!

A new favorite place for steak!  Smile Oct 23, 2013

For full review and more photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2013/09/the-chop-house-vivo-city-thumbsforfood.html

The Chop House is presented from the Wooloomooloo Group that are the brains behind the famed Wooloomooloo Steakhouse. The Chop House offers a casual dining concept that can be seen from it's full ceiling to floor windows and outdoor semi-waterfront dining area.

You will be greeted with the wooden entrance and the signage of The Chop House. We were there on a Sunday night and we had thought that we could immediately be seated as there was no queue at the entrance. It was only when we were told by the waitress at the door that we had to wait for 20 minutes that we found out that they had a waiting list. Bent on eating some steak that night, we decided to wait. However, we were only seated about 40 minutes later as the waitress explained that they were facing service staff shortage as they were newly opened.

The Chop House pride themselves for their burgers. We were recommended by the waitress to try the Patty Melt. We were not for burgers that night, thus, we gave it a miss. We would however, come back to try their burgers soon! They offer seafood grill, sausages and a range of steak and sides. We felt that the prices of food offered were quite reasonable, consistent with their goal of presenting a casual dining experience.
USDA Prime Rib Eye

USDA Prime Rib Eye

The USDA Prime Rib Eye ($36) caught the eyes of Z. It was served with fried onion streaks, salad and some gravy to go with the steak. The steak was really delicious and done very well. The meat was juicy, flavorful and tender. When placed into the mouth, the meat was full-flavored and coats the palate perfectly. You don't have to dip the meat into the gravy as it has great flavor on its own.
Austrailian Grass Fed Beef Tenderloin

Austrailian Grass Fed Beef Tenderloin

Australian Grass-fed Beef Tenderloin ($27) was tasty as well. The meat was moist, juicy with a slight chewy texture. We also liked the baked potato that complemented the steak was soft with buttery notes. The rocket salad provided a balance to the whole dish.
Berkshire Pork Chop

Berkshire Pork Chop

I chose the Berkshire Pork Chop ($32). It is difficult to find juicy and succulent pork chop cuts as they tend to be dry and hard. The pork chop in The Chop House was juicy but, the texture was still on the hard side. I would love it to be less tough. I like how the pork was marinated as it did not overpower the pork's own flavor. Like the steak, it came with streaks of fried onion, some salad and baked potato. I enjoyed the pork chop with the streaks of fried onion as I felt that it brought out a sweet flavor when eaten together.

Drinks wise, The Chop House offers a variety of beers such as Mata from New Zealand, Mac’s Great White Cloudy Wheat Beer, Pure Blonde Premium Lager, and Schneider Wiesse Tap 7. They have a self-serve beer tap where patrons can buy a stored value card and purchase fresh tap beers with it. Beers at happy hour range from $12.

Overall, we felt that the steak did not disappoint and we felt that the prices of the food were reasonable. The ambience of The Chop House was great for drinks with friends over some sides and meat. One thing we felt that has room for improvement was their service. The service was slow and the waiting staff were not meticulous enough. Having said that, we would definitely return to try their burgers!

For more photos and full review, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2013/10/the-marshmallow-tree-cafe-telok-blangah.html

A perfect choice to chill and read on a lazy Sunday [: It is located in a corner of the Telok Blangah neighbourhood. Just a short walk from the Telok Blangah MRT!

I love the decor of the cafe. It gives off a cosy feeling which makes me feel like staying there to just read my book or talk to my friends. Well, I would really love to do that but there was a constant crowd on the Sunday that I visited and we did not want to deprive others of their coffee drinking chances! This newly set-up cafe can seat around 20-odd people I think; pretty tiny space!

Latte $4.50. I thought that the coffee was pretty good! And, the coffee art was good too! For a small budding cafe, Marshmallow tree cafe has definitely surpassed my expectations of it!

A differentiating point about this cafe is that they serve up their drinks with a roasted marshmallow! Loveeeee it! Though it is nothing fascinating, we were all still pretty hyped up when the marshmallows came. Reminded us of the good old days when we would all fight for the marshmallows during BBQ sessions. If only they had free flow of marshmallows or something, it would be so perfect!

Hot chocolate $5.50. I liked the hot chocolate as well as it was thick and milky enough! Would order it on days when I don't need caffeine.

Waffles with a scoop of ice-cream $7.50. This is a simple yet satisfying dessert! A safe choice!

Domo Cup $4.50. I would say this is something that I would order again the next time I visit the cafe! Melted marshmallows on top with nutella and biscuits at the bottom of the cup. Definitely something that will lift your mood up high into the skies!

Overall, I feel that the Marshmallow Tree Cafe is worthy place to visit. However, the cafe does not really serve proper meals so I would suggest dropping by for a cup of coffee and some sweets! Setting itself in a neighbourhood environment and having a unique theme of its own, I foresee increasing popularity of this newly opened cafe!
