I like the deco of the cafe. It is so pretty that I can't stop snapping photos using my camera!

I went on a weekday and I was quite disappointed when I realized that they did not serve breakfast food on weekdays. Well, so we decided to go for the Set Lunch. It is available from Tues-Fri, 1130 to 1430 [: The price varies depending on the main course that you choose. They change some courses of the Set Lunch occasionally which is good so that we can always have new things to try! The Set Lunch comes with a drink and a soup of the day.

The coffee was disappointing as the coffee was rather bland and not as aromatic as I would have like it to be.

The food was alright but not mind-blowing. I guess I would try their brunch the next time round instead of their main courses!

Overall, even though the food and coffee were not great, the deco and ambience of the place made up for it. They have outdoor seats as well so it makes a good place for big group gatherings

Rakuichi is situated in Far East Shopping Centre, which is just a stone's throw from Ion Orchard. The building is quite old and worn and the escalators were not working when we were there. Nevertheless, we managed to locate Rakuichi on the 3rd floor.

Even though it was a Friday night, we were quite surprised that the place was not crowded. In fact, we were one of the three tables there were occupied that night. We ordered the dinner set which came with Tempura, Teapot Soup, Assorted Sashimi of the day, Yakitori Sticks and some Shishamo and Edamame. We thought that the portion was on the small side considering the cost of the meal.

The bowl of assorted Sashimi that came caught us aback! It was presented in a large bowl of ice and out salmon and yellowtail fish sashimi was placed neatly on top. Presentation and effort is worth 10 points! Sadly, they did not have my favorite swordfish sashimi that I was craving for. All of us felt that the temperature of the sashimi could be cooler. It was strange because with the amount of ice, we thought that the sashimi would be much cooler. I could never have enough of Salmon Sahimi!

Aburi Sushi! Yes, everyone loves Aburi sushi, which is sushi that is torched lightly. It was our top dish of the day as well. The burst of flavor when you put a piece in your mouth is really too much to describe.

We had some Assorted Sushi set as well which came with Teapot Soup, Tempura and Shishamo. Well, I am not a fan of Shishamo actually. The idea of eating a pregnant fish is just too overwhelming. The assorted sushi were alright. Similar to the Sashimi, we would prefer the temperature of the slices to be cooler. The tempura was fried to perfection but, we were a little disappointed that it was not served hot.

I guess many patrons of Rakuichi are more familiar to the branches at Oasia Hotel and Dempsey. Of course, if you compare the sets to high end Japanese restaurants Tastsuya, the price that they offer is quite reasonable for sets ranging from $40-80. Well, I would recommend you visiting Rakuichi for lunch as I feel that their lunch sets are quite similar to dinner and more value-for-money.

Great place for desserts! OK Jun 24, 2013

Cafe Rogue is one of the few cafes that sprouted in Haji Lane recently. Having heard about the yummy dessert they serve, we decided to give it a try.

Cafe Rogue is not difficult to spot. It is situated below Sushi Airways. Boosting an alfresco concept, it does not have a large seating capacity. It's a more informal and casual setting where one can chill with friends while immersing in the rich culture of Haji Lane/Arab Street.

Chocolate Pear Helene ($6.50) was our choice as it was a recommendation on the menu. It is basically a layer of pear paired with dark chocolate cream. I got to say this is really delicious! I can definitely finish this cake all by myself. The bitterness of the dark chocolate complements very well with the sweetness of the pear. And what I really like is the texture of the cake that is fluffy and it really melts in the mouth! Would definitely come back for this. I would really love a bigger slice though!

We tried the Apple Cinnamon and Raisin Crepe ($6.50). It looks really appetising and pleasing to the eyes, right? What I like about the crepe is the texture of it. I would hope that it would be served hot. The cream on top was disappointing as it was like instant whipped cream. We felt replacing it with some icecream would perhaps be better. Would say that there's room for improvements for their crepes!

Overall, I am excited to try out their other cakes! Ambience wise, it's more casual and exudes an ambience with as a dessert place more than a place for main courses.

After trying so many different Japanese buffets, I would say that all of them have pretty much the same variety. What will then make the difference between one that I will return to and one that I will not return to? Of course, it is the quality of the food! Senki has over 100 different kinds of variety for its buffet. Good spread. However, I felt that the sashimi was not really fresh except the swordfish sashimi (I ate a lot of that). Towards the later part of the night, the salmon sashimi was really bad. One additional point to note is that Green Tea is not included in the buffet which was a great disappointment.

The Nasu-miso was pretty good though. The plus point to Senki is that they have many nice cooked dishes. The Ebi Tempura is also up to the standards!

Overall, I think that Senki serves an average fare of Japanese food. They also have an Ala-carte menu if you are not a buffet fanatic! For the same price range, I would prefer Irodori to this definitely.

The buffet is at $30++ for lunch and $33++ for dinner. On eve of public holidays and public holidays, the buffet is at $39++.

Personally, I prefer grilled steak compared to roasted. I like the grilled charcoal taste that lingers on in the mouth. Les Bouchons’ steaks are grilled which make it a plus factor to try it out. As we had a relatively large group, we made reservations and was seated at the outdoor area. Not bad a location as it was along the quayside and there was some river breeze.

For starters, they have baguette rolls that are unheated and basically quite cold and hard. As we were still waiting for a couple more friends, we decided to give the cold and hard rolls a try. Surprisingly, it tasted quite well despite its unappealing demeanor.

For our friend who does not eat beef, she ordered the grilled salmon, priced at $32.80.It came with half the plate filled with fries. The salmon was cooked well done and even. However, I feel that the flavour is too bland as there wasn't any sauce or garnishes on it.

Next up, Grilled Ribeye Steak with "Vigneron" Butter priced at around $38. My friend chose medium well-done as she does not like her steak to be bloody. I felt that there was nothing particularly special about the steak. Flavor-wise, I preferred the grilled steak at Hog's Breath. I felt that it was palatable but nothing very out-of-the-ordinary.

Overall, the price is quite reasonable for steak. However, if you're looking for variety, this would not be a place you would like to visit.
