The Sushi Bar was recommended by a colleague for it's good aburi salmon sushi. Excited to try out a new Japanese hunt, we headed down to Far East Plaza. The Sushi Bar is located at an inconspicuous corner of Far East Plaza. The whole concept of Sushi Bar is kept simple with no frills.

Salmon Aburi Roll ($13.90 for 8 rolls) was the highlight! Just looking at the appearance of the Salmon Aburi already makes one drool. The softshell crab is wrapped in the nicely packed japanese rice and topped with torched salmon and mayo. It's just really good and have one craving for it after every bite!

Overall, I think for the food, I will be back to The Sushi Bar! Especially for the Salmon Aburi Roll. With no gst and service charge, the Sushi Bar only accept cash which I'm totally fine. The prices are definitely reasonable for the quality of food. There is not much of an ambience I would say. But, what more could you ask for?

Spending per head: Approximately $28(Dinner)

Tiramisu Cafe Smile Oct 23, 2013

It is not difficult to spot Tiramisu Hero from afar! As you can see from the photo below, when you arrive at the shop, you will spot the big signage as well as the garden-like alfresco dining area. I really like the entrance of the shop as it is spacious and inviting. It also has a smoking area for patrons who wish to take a smoke break.

As you step into the shop, The Tiramisu Hero's mascot, Sir Antonio greets you at every corner of the wall. What we really like about the interior is the ladders hanging upside down from the ceilings. Lights are wrapped around the ladder which helps illuminate the places as well as add a creative touch to the design. The whole place gives off a relaxed and comfortable vibe while achieving a chic minimalist stance. We could feel that the owners really placed a lot of effort in decorating the shop to bring out it's own unique character and style.

The must-try when we are in The Tiramisu Hero's cafe is their signature Tiramisu. Here in their cafe, they offer various sizes of Tiramisu that will match your group's size. Also, they have all the flavors and some special ones include Horlick, Lavendar, Lemon and such. Sadly, when we were there, only Original and Milo were available. We decided to try the Milo flavoured, MommaHero ($7.90), good for one.

We were really surprised when we saw that the menu consists of dishes like Tom Yum Goong and Thai Basil Pork Rice which we don't really see appear on the usual brunch menu. Piqued, we decided to order the Thai Basil Pork Rice ($12.50) as we wanted to try something different. Looking at the photo below, it doesn't look very photogenic, but, the dish was really appetizing and quite tasty. We would recommend this dish to those who prefer something other than your usual brunch.

Overall, we feel that The Tiramisu Hero Cafe is a great place for friends to hang out and we will be back to chill out with our friends over some coffee. Do drop by if you are in the area even if it's just to grab some tiramisu to takeaway or look at the beautiful and well-thought decorations!

Yummy raw fish slices! Smile May 09, 2013

For full review and photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2012/09/sin-kee-famous-chicken-rice.html

Personally, I am very particular about the rice as I feel that not every chicken rice store can achieve the nice and fragrant rice taste. However, the standard of the chicken rice at the store is not really the best you can taste in Singapore. The rice is more on the plain side, without the fragrance that will make you want to eat the rice all by itself.

This is it! They sell porridge as well, not bad if you want something different to go with your chicken.

Raw fish slices. $6.00 I was quite apprehensive towards eating raw fish slices with my chicken rice at first. But, since this is heavily recommended by people, I reckon it would not hurt to try this. Of course, I'm glad I tried it. This is really yummy. There is absolutely no fishy taste and it is marinated to the right extent, with lime, chili, parsley, spring onion. A must try if you dare to eat the raw fish slices!

Half a chicken $ 12.00. Of course, the main dish is the chicken. I like the sauce, but it may be a little on the salty side. The chicken is tender however, I find the skin not that well done and the chicken is on the fatty side. Personally, I like to savour the skin of the Hainanese Chicken Rice so nice skin is important to me!

Overall, I think this is worth eating if you are near the vicinity! Definitely worth the price.

Good coffee & Pancakes! Smile Jul 01, 2014

Categories : Bars/Lounges | Café

Jewel Cafe + Bar is located on Rangoon Road, about 10minutes walk from Farrer Park MRT. I like the spaciousness of the whole cafe; with it's high ceilings and spaced out seatings. The place has a clean cut, modern industrial look with two levels of seating.

We tried their Pan Seared Watermelon Steak which was something really quite unique. It was served with Pineapple Sorbet. First taste of the hot watermelon on its own was really quite strange. Mmm, it is nothing like I had ever tasted. Paired with the sorbet and the flavour was much better. The pairing went surprisingly well. Having said that, I probably will not order this dish next time. It is of an acquired taste and thus, if you're up for something new, do try this dish!

The Ricotta Pancakes tasted really good. Served with caramelised bananas and some strawberries, it was a balance of sweet and sour flavour. A really good dessert to end of the meal!

Nevertheless, Jewel Cafe & Bar offers a spacious place with good coffee to its patrons. I would definitely love to try its much raved about burgers soon!

Great place for desserts! OK Jun 24, 2013

For full review and more photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2013/06/cafe-rogue-thumbsforfood.html

Cafe Rogue is one of the few cafes that sprouted in Haji Lane recently. Having heard about the yummy dessert they serve, we decided to give it a try.

Cafe Rogue is not difficult to spot. It is situated below Sushi Airways. Boosting an alfresco concept, it does not have a large seating capacity. It's a more informal and casual setting where one can chill with friends while immersing in the rich culture of Haji Lane/Arab Street.

Chocolate Pear Helene ($6.50) was our choice as it was a recommendation on the menu. It is basically a layer of pear paired with dark chocolate cream. I got to say this is really delicious! I can definitely finish this cake all by myself. The bitterness of the dark chocolate complements very well with the sweetness of the pear. And what I really like is the texture of the cake that is fluffy and it really melts in the mouth! Would definitely come back for this. I would really love a bigger slice though!

We tried the Apple Cinnamon and Raisin Crepe ($6.50). It looks really appetising and pleasing to the eyes, right? What I like about the crepe is the texture of it. I would hope that it would be served hot. The cream on top was disappointing as it was like instant whipped cream. We felt replacing it with some icecream would perhaps be better. Would say that there's room for improvements for their crepes!

Overall, I am excited to try out their other cakes! Ambience wise, it's more casual and exudes an ambience with as a dessert place more than a place for main courses.
