Dessert gem? Cry Sep 30, 2013
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

Wimbly Lu is hidden in a private estate near Serangoon, which makes it hard to find if you are a first-timer at this restaurant. The place is decorated to give it a cosy feeling, and be amazed at the display of dessert when you stepped into the cafe.

I had the root beer cake, with vanilla ice cream. It is one of their signature dessert, which looks really pretty being served in a martini glass but not all that nice when you eat it. I have no idea where or how it gets the name, cause i am not able to taste the root beer in it. It was so different from what i have seen on reviews on blog!

I also had a cup of latte. I will always order hot drinks these days, just for the sake of those cute cafe art. To my disappointment, they do not do it at this cafe.

Perhaps I have not tried what truly makes this cafe popular/amazing, but from what i have tried, i do not think i will be visiting the cafe again.

Pasta at coffee bean Cry Sep 30, 2013

The pasta at coffee bean was on offer, $11.90 for each dish and 1-for-1 with the use of coffee bean card.

It should be the first and only time that i will be having pasta at coffee bean. The beef lagsana tasted like typical microwave food. The salmon pasta has a lot of bits of salmon, but the salmon do not taste fresh, and the cream is diluted. I have no idea what i am eating.

The portion is huge, but it is not good in this case. Coffee bean is still a better place for drinks.

Dessert buffet  Cry Sep 07, 2013

Categories : Café | Seafood | Burgers and Sandwiches

I came across the deal from deal.com.sg, a dessert buffet that comes with free flow Flower Tea at $9.90. I thought it was a good deal and bought 4 vouchers to go with friends.

It is located in Little India and about 5 minutes walk away from the MRT, but the shop is quite hard to spot. I walked by it without realising and had to back track to locate the shop.

Unless typical buffet style, the food was already placed on the table that my friends and i are to be seated at when we stepped in. sad We couldnt even choose which are the cakes that we absolutely have no interest in, it is all placed on the table already. Although the cake looks pretty, none of it actually is as good as it looks. The cheesecake was tasteless, and the crust was soggy. The carrot cake was overwhelmed with the taste of cinnamon and nothing else. The banana cake and chocolate cake are the average ones that can still be considered decent. The worst of the lot is the tomato apple cake. No one wants to touch it, and given the chance we would not even want to order it.

The chocolate mousse is rich in chocolate, and the other cup is tasteless. I have no idea what i am eating.

Their free flow "flower tea" of that month is pineapple rose tea, which is just syrup basically. I feel cheated thinking that there will be real flower tea, as it is hard to find such a shop in Singapore. For the price paid for the deal, I find it alright. But i would not go back again, not even if there is another $9.90 deal.

Raspberry angel foodcake Cry Jul 30, 2013

I always wanted to try out the cakes on display; everyone of them is a sight to behold. Raspberry angel foodcake, what a pretty name for a cake. And the cake itself is a darling too, but only on the surface.

This shop is very good at presentation, but seriously bad at making cakes. This is one of the driest and hardest cake that i have tasted. Not dry and dense enough to be a cookie, not moist and soft enough to be a cake! I left more than half the cake untouched when i left the shop, and i only ordered tea together with this cake.

Salmon feast? Cry Jul 30, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

The Salmon Zukushi Set ($24) looks awesome on picture, but it is too bad that the staff at sakae sushi is unable to reproduce even 50% similarity to the picture. The set that was presented to me look like a mess.

Salmon slices, on one hand, is reasonably fresh. But again, the difference with the picture on menu is too huge! I was tricked into believing thick long slices of sashimi will be served, but i ended up lumps of short mess.

For the price and quality, i might as well get from convenient sushi bars outside.
