Chicken rice ball Smile Sep 30, 2013

Categories : Hainanese | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

From the name of the shop, one could guess that the shop is known for its Chicken + rice ball. The cutely shaped rice ball is very soft, and i had 2 at a time! Way more than what i will normally take for chicken rice. I had the chicken thigh meat, and also a plate of pork belly to share. When a comparison was done between the two meat, i found myself liking the pork belly way more than the chicken even though both have the characteristic dark sauce drizzle over it. The pork belly is very soft, well marinated, but unfortunately, fatty. For hawker food, this chicken rice stall is considered to be expensive, with the meal costly about $25 in total.

Jap Buffet  Smile Sep 30, 2013

Haagen Daz ice-cream

Sashimi and crab legs are two things that will always be snatched up the moment they are out of the kitchen. Crab meat is tender and sweet, but the quality of salmon sashimi differs greatly. There are some batches that do not taste as fresh, which some cuts are just the oppesite. But no matter how good something is, it should be eaten in moderation. It gets quite sick after a while.

Haagen Daz ice-cream is served for its dessert, which I did not expect given that this is one of the more budget buffet in Singapore.

Thai Food  Smile Sep 30, 2013

This shop does not seem like an authentic Thai shop, with it selling curry fish head as well. However, it is one of the better thai food i have had in Singapore.

The milk tea is very sweet and thick! For the price of $1.50, it is a very worth it drink.

Pineapple fried rice was unlike the picture, which was served in a actual pineapple shell. The pork floss on top of the enhaced the flavor of the fried rice. Quite a nicely done dish.

Fried squid, a huge portion was served, such that it is impossible to finish if there is only 2 people having it.

Their clear Tom yam soup is good too, spicy and slightly sour. Tasted authentic!

Jap Fried Rice Smile Sep 30, 2013

I had the Teppen rice this time round instead of a ramen. The rice comes on a sizzling iron skillet-type plate, which reminds me a lot of Pepper Lunch. But the food is better than pepperluch, with lots of eggs as the base, and a piece of butter on top. It will be even better if they can double the amount of butter that they give. I love the slightly burnt garlic taste in the rice. It might not be a good choice if you dont want to leave the restaurant with a smokey smell though.

The shop is very small, and look as though they only have a staff on the outside to serve customers. Service might be slow at times.

Fruity Pork Belly Smile Sep 30, 2013

Platypus Kitchen, a relatively new store in Bugis Junction. There wasnt a crowd when i went, so i had a low expectation for the restaurant. I ordered the Pressed pork belly ($19.90) and it is one of the nicest variation that i have had before. The skin is crispy, and the dish is served with apple and carrot sauce to go with it. The fruity sweet taste of the sauce goes great with the dish. The waiters are very efficient and serve the dishes promptly.
