Braised duck OK Jul 24, 2013

This is my second time at Poulet, and I decided to try their Braise de Canard, which sounds really good. The meat is really tender, and topped with dried cranberry and some random salad at the side. Despite the appetizing appearance, flavor was lacking much in this dish which is a pity. As a braised dish which should have been cooked for a long time, it tasted bland and unimpressive.

The outlet at Vivo feels very new, and the service is quite good. There was a lack of crowd on a weekday afternoon, maybe due to its "hidden" location away from the atrium.

Dough Culture OK Jul 24, 2013

Categories : Chinese Desserts

Fried food are always best when eaten hot, and the same applies to the food from dough culture. The Hum Chee Bing that I had was eaten straight away after buying. I bought the plain one, and it was very soft and salty, with slight taste of sweetness.

The doughstick that i brought home however, was soggy already and had an extremely oily texture to it. Bad choice to buy it home. The review probably wont do justice to the you tiao, as it was left in the plastic bags for a period of time.

There are a lot of items on the menu, so much that i became at a loss as to what to order.

Fried Pig Trotter, the minimum order is 2 pieces which cost about $10. The service is good, they offered to cut it into 4 pieces in total. Very crispy, and though there was not much meat, there is plenty of soft tissues, collagen!

Fried Yam with Duck. A very yummy dish! They only showed 3 pieces on the menu, and thus I was expecting a small portion of it, but the food that came was huge! The yam is very loose, and perfectly fried on the outside. A filling dish.

Oyster Omelette ($15) was the worst dish that I had in this place. Each piece seemed to be over-fried, and there was no starch in the dish. Very different from the authentic dish, and not in the good way!

Spending per head: Approximately $20

Taiwan food Smile Jul 19, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant | Desserts and Cakes | Bubble Tea/ Tea | Noodles

This restaurant is heavily decorated with Jay Chou albums, playing his songs, and even have his photo within pages of the menu.

The Milk Tea - $4.50: The specialty of the shop, and is pretty decent. It has a nice milky taste, but the pearl is way too soft.

Mango Smoked Duck: Just as the name suggest, this dish comprises smoked duck with mango sauce and black sesame as toppings. Quite unique, but the mango smothers too much of the smoked duck flavour, and I would not recommend this dish.

Pork Rice - $3.80/bowl: Also the specialty of the store. I was not surprised when it comes in a small bowl from the price. It would be much better to have a proper serving of the rice cause it is good! The meat used is fatty, but suits the rice very well.

pretty cake Smile Jul 19, 2013

I went with a group of friends on a Friday night, and we were placed to sit outside as the inside was fully booked. The weather was cooling at night, which is bearable for outdoor seating, but the number of mosquitoes was not. I left with more than 5 bites on my legs.

Other than environment wise, the rest of the evening was pretty well. The waitress was attentive, and we had such a good time looking at those pretty little cake and choosing them!

I shared 3 cakes with 2 other friends, and we all agreed that the chocolate hazelnut praline cake is the best of them all. Rich taste of almond in the praline, together with hazelnut and chocolate, what could be better in a cake? We made the wrong choice of ordering all chocolate cakes, and we were so sick of chocolate at the end. But nevertheless, this is the place to come for quality cake.
