Dessert gem? Cry Sep 30, 2013

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

Wimbly Lu is hidden in a private estate near Serangoon, which makes it hard to find if you are a first-timer at this restaurant. The place is decorated to give it a cosy feeling, and be amazed at the display of dessert when you stepped into the cafe.

I had the root beer cake, with vanilla ice cream. It is one of their signature dessert, which looks really pretty being served in a martini glass but not all that nice when you eat it. I have no idea where or how it gets the name, cause i am not able to taste the root beer in it. It was so different from what i have seen on reviews on blog!

I also had a cup of latte. I will always order hot drinks these days, just for the sake of those cute cafe art. To my disappointment, they do not do it at this cafe.

Perhaps I have not tried what truly makes this cafe popular/amazing, but from what i have tried, i do not think i will be visiting the cafe again.

Chicken rice ball Smile Sep 30, 2013

Categories : Hainanese | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

From the name of the shop, one could guess that the shop is known for its Chicken + rice ball. The cutely shaped rice ball is very soft, and i had 2 at a time! Way more than what i will normally take for chicken rice. I had the chicken thigh meat, and also a plate of pork belly to share. When a comparison was done between the two meat, i found myself liking the pork belly way more than the chicken even though both have the characteristic dark sauce drizzle over it. The pork belly is very soft, well marinated, but unfortunately, fatty. For hawker food, this chicken rice stall is considered to be expensive, with the meal costly about $25 in total.

Value Set Lunch  OK Sep 30, 2013

Categories : American | Steaks and Grills

This place is a bit away from the Ang Mo Kio central, but it is still filled with people on a weekday afternoon. Most people are having the set lunches, which comes with soup of the day, main course and also the a slice of cake of the day. The soup is served shortly after ordering of food, and comes with a cold and soft garlic bread. The main took a long time, partly cause of the crowd as well. I had the steak main course, of which i have ordered medium rare, but was almost medium done. The steak is thin but comes with nice mushroom sauce.

Overall, this is the place to go to have set lunches, but i do not think it is worth a trip specially for anything on its ala carte menu

Pasta at coffee bean Cry Sep 30, 2013

The pasta at coffee bean was on offer, $11.90 for each dish and 1-for-1 with the use of coffee bean card.

It should be the first and only time that i will be having pasta at coffee bean. The beef lagsana tasted like typical microwave food. The salmon pasta has a lot of bits of salmon, but the salmon do not taste fresh, and the cream is diluted. I have no idea what i am eating.

The portion is huge, but it is not good in this case. Coffee bean is still a better place for drinks.

Making Ice Cream Like a Chemist OK Sep 30, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

The taste of the ice cream is normal, and the originality only lies in the way that they make it. I bought the voucher from Qoo10 ($2.90), I add on another $1 to upgrade it to the durian flavor. The whole process starts with a liquid solution. After they pour into the mixer, they used liquid nitrogen to deep freeze the mixture and put the durian puree (they are so stingy with the puree!) in. After lots of nitorgen gases and mixing, the ice cream is done!

It is magical to watch, but not really when you taste it. The ice cream is good, but not to the extent that i will pay so much more extra for a cup of it.
