Chicken Rice! Smile Mar 26, 2013
Categories : Chicken Rice

Walked to Singapore Flyer from MBS after church service on Sunday. Apparently Singapore Flyer is within walkable distance from a few MRT stations (Raffles Place, Cityhall and or even Bayfront)

Was with a friend and I was quite surprised that the Flyer wasn't fully packed on a Sunday night.

Here's what I had:-

Roasted Chicken Rice!!!

I'm not sure if my friend who ordered for me added rice or chicken to that portion. The portion was really generous! The chopped chicken meat covered the surface of the rice.

It tasted awesome! The rice wasn't too oily. The chicken was done perfectly, not too dry even though chicken breast was used.

Didn't know of the price but worth going back for more! smile

Located at Star Vista at the third floor just beside Ya Kun, IS MY FAVOURITE JAPANESE SPAGHETTI RESTAURANT! As Star Vista is partially owned by New Creation Church (my church), on every Sunday it's usually crowded with church goers. And I'd have my lunch at Yomenya Goemon when I wanna get my spaghetti fix.

Yomenya Goemon offers a wide range of spaghetti heavily influenced by Italian cuisines as can be seen from the olive oil, cheeses and cream sauce that they use for their dishes.

Here's what I had. Avocado & Shrimp with Cheese Cream Sauce. $12.10 (excl GST and service charge)

I've not seen spaghetti prepared with avacado and I just had to try it. The verdict wasn't too bad. In fact the avocado blended quite well with the rest of the ingredients. Love the cream sauce. Prawns were fresh. Spaghetti was cooked till al dente.

Would definitely go back to try out the other flavours.

Best Laksa I've ever tried! Smile Mar 22, 2013

Just a 10 minutes walk away from NTU, Bai Jia Cafe is quaintly located below a HDB block in Jurong West neighbourhood.

Bai Jia Cafe prides itself with home-cooked food with no MSG added. The lady boss, Dawn, is good in preparing spicy food. So if you love, laksa, curry fish head and curry chicken, you are in for a ride of palatable pleasures!

This laksa literally set fireworks on my appetance! By far this is the best laksa I've tried, the coconut milk and the spices blended really well and it hit the right notes for me. The tau pok was the bomb! Best eaten soaked in laksa gravy. tongue

The curry chicken was also not too bad! Chicken was really fresh and I love it that they used chicken drumsticks to prepare it. I love chicken drumsticks!

Curry fish head. THIS IS ONE OF THE SIGNATURE DISHES AT BAI JIA CAFE. The fish head was really fresh. One of the indicator of the freshness was that the fish eye has no tinge of fishiness! The long beans and cabbage were thoroughly cooked in the assam curry. Slurps.

As the lady boss specialize in preparing spicy dishes, the next dish that was served was also spicy - Thai Style Tofu! mad Really love the tofu wrapped in a thin layer of batter thoroughly fried, drenched in tangy spicy blended sauce with strands of raw onion rings.

Served piping hot, this Signature Tofu that the lady boss brought out for us was awesome! Each bite taste exquisitely different as she added chestnut, prawns, spring onion, carrots and even black fungus (hei mu er) to make the tofu!

Lastly we had Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables (mei cai kou rou)! The vegetables were made by the chef and it was a tad too salty for me. But the pork belly was yummy! It literally melts in your mouth and doesn't leave a fatty after taste.

Will definitely go back for more laksa, curry fish head and tofu!

New Breakfast Menu! Smile Mar 21, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Kids-Friendly

KungFu Paradise at Bugis+ is a little difficult to locate if you're not familiar with the layout of the mall. Just opposite CocoIchibanya, there is a stretch of restaurants like KungFu Paradise, Bonchon Chicken and Blackball.

KungFu Paradise recently launched their breakfast menu in early Feb this year and I must say I love their breakfasts! I'm not a morning person, and I love the fact that they serve their breakfast menu throughout the day! And their opening hours from 11am to 2am/3am really favours the youngsters.

So here's what I tried! The Royal Rumble... Basically it's two croissants filled with egg mayo, bacon bits and spring onion sprinkled atop. Don't you agree that it looks delightfully appetizing?!

The croissants were light and fluffy with a whiff of buttery aroma in every bite. The egg mayo was creamy and flavourful. It fulfills my breakfast cravings perfectly. Even the grilled cherry tomatoes and sauteed mushrooms were awesome.

What more can I ask for?!

Disappointing Cry Mar 21, 2013

Categories : Hainanese | Chicken Rice

The last time I went to Nam Kee was probably 5 years ago, when there was still long queue and the minimum waiting time to get a seat was 30 minutes.

5 years later, I decided to visit this place again because I really miss the food there! But I was greatly disappointed by the standard of the food served now as I grew up having the chicken rice here for lunch with my family every Sunday.

The chicken no longer taste tender and fresh, it carries a weird taste for both roast and steam chicken a like. I'm guessing they probably used frozen chicken to prepare. sad

This is the only dish that is palatable. The fried tofu is slightly above average, not the best I've had. Comparing this to what they used to serve, this is a substandard.

Deep fried prawn. There was totally no "wok hei" fragrance even though it's deep fried. The batter was bland.

Stir fried kai lan with garlic. just average.

I guess this is the last time I'll visit Nam Kee. sad
