Savoury Pancakes! Smile Feb 07, 2013
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

If you've never tried savoury pancakes (like me before I tried Strictly Pancakes), this is a good place to start with!

This place is located in a cozy corner along a stretch of shop houses at Prinsep Street. Other than an upper level, diners can choose to seat in the alfresco area if there's seats available.

Garlic Butter Prawns. Comes with three thick pancakes (a little thicker than McDee's) drenched generously in garlic herb butter sauce and 6 freshly blanched prawns sitting atop in a line. Really really awesome.

Tiramisu. A scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate shavings over three pancakes as well. To be honest I can't really taste the coffee in it. I'm not really someone who loves sweet food, so this pancake is not really for me.

Service was impeccable. The waiter and waitress make sure that the diners all have their water glass filled to the brim most of the time.

I'd definitely come back to try more savoury pancakes from Strictly Pancakes!

Awesome Coconut Soup :) OK Feb 07, 2013
Categories : Thai

Star Vista is a really good place to chill and hang out just to enjoy the breeze. Porn's is located at the outskirts of the mall, facing the MRT station, and this place is generally crowded when it comes to lunch and dinner time.

Love the funky concept this restaurant takes on, it's really unexpected of a Thai eatery.

Here's what we had:

Pineapple Fried Rice. Honestly, it lacks the wow factor, even though there are bits of pineapple in every bite. The fragrance in the rice is absent. The blanched prawns were really fresh though.

Pad Thai Noodles. The pho noodle is a little dry and the seafood was overcooked.

Coconut soup. Rich coconut milk added a lot of flavour and aroma in the soup, on top of the tangy and spicy taste.

Tom Yum Soup. Fresh seafood was used in this pot of soup. It was probably twice as tangy as the coconut soup, but the level of spiciness was the same. The presentation of this soup reminds me of zi char stall clear seafood soup.

Green curry chicken. Not spicy, but sweet curry. Chicken was tender.

Durian sticky rice and mango sticky rice. Mango was really sweet and the sticky rice created a balance when eaten together. Durian was rich and fragrant and I'd prefer the durian sticky rice hands down over the mango one even though it was good.

I'd return for the dessert or the coconut soup.

Rosti Smile Feb 07, 2013

Categories : European | Pasta | Paella

Located at the basement of Takashimaya in a buzzling corner somewhere, lies an open-concept sausage and pasta "bar" that serves European cuisine in a casual manner.

Here's what I tried.

Rosti with Chicken Chicken Sausages. $11.20

Generous double portion of chicken sausages was served with rosti. The sausages oozed liquid cheese when its cut. Love the buttery taste in the potatoes and it was definitely well seasoned. But I find the rosti portion was insufficient - It was just a thin layer. sad (NOT ENOUGH!!!) Something which I find special about this rosti is that they serve not only sour cream, but also SAUERKRAUT! Love preserved cabbage and it blends really well when eaten with the potatoes. <3

No GST and service charge is added in the bill! All net prices. smile They also have a substantial list of beer they serve on the menu.

<3 the Breakfast menu! OK Feb 07, 2013   (Related Review)

Decided to have breakfast for lunch at Pique Nique since it was one month ago since the last time I had their breakfast.

Norwegian Salmon Breakfast Set. $14.90

Eggs Benedict atop bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Side salad was tossed in balsamic vinaigrette. Olive oil was drizzled generously over the bagel. Eggs benedict was done just the way I like it - egg whites cooked thoroughly with watery yolk.

Iced Chocolate. $7.80

I can't remember when was the last time I had a really bad iced chocolate. The chocolate wasn't sweet, nor rich. It was really diluted. I couldn't bring myself to finish them after the third sip. The marshmallow that floated atop was in a shape of a cloud which I think was kind of cute if the chocolate was sweeter and richer in taste.

It's a pity that the chocolate was a disappointment. I don't think I'm gonna order their drinks anymore, except orange juice to go with the breakfast sets which is the safest choice. sad

Prosperity meal!  Smile Feb 07, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Food Court | Steaks and Grills

One concern that I always have when I visit Pepper Lunch is the stench that will stick to my clothing after the meal. But since my colleague and I were heading home straight after dinner, I decided to go ahead with my craving. smile

Salmon Pepper Rice - 11.80, comes with a regular cup of Sjora Mango and Peach. When sufficient sauce is added, every grain of rice is moist and tender with buttery peppery fragrant.

I added cheese to my pepper rice with no corn (yuck) and began seasoning it with garlic soya sauce. Part of the attraction of this eatery is that patrons get to cook and stir their food on the hot plate which I find it therapeutic. The salmon becomes shredded when it's cooked. I loved my salmon three-quarter done though.

Overall I'm satisfied with the pepper rice and it's a quick fix for my craving for something savoury.
