Chocolate cake Smile Aug 01, 2013

Looking for new dessert place around town area and found Vanilla Bar & Café. I ordered a Chocolate Molten Cake. Warm dark brown cake was rich and luscious, when I cut into the middle of the dense cake, gooey and hot chocolate slowly flows out. Accompanied by cold smooth and velvety vanilla ice cream. This place is cozy and quiet, would definitely come back again to try the savory dishes.

Mr Bean Smile Aug 01, 2013

I was in toa payoh HDB hub accompanying my sis as she’s applying for a flat.
It was a hot day , so I decided to have something light and refreshing without feeling guilty.

The soya bean ice cream was cold and smooth and refreshing. It reminds me of those days of 7-11’s mr softie. I like my ice cream in this form and I love the cute cup and spoon that comes together with it

As I live nearby about 5 minute drive away, I like to come here often to take a night stroll under the moonlight with the seabreeze…. No really actually the smells of the seafood!

We ordered Half Shell Scallop , Cereal Prawns and Chilli Crab with Fried Buns.

Fresh and succulent scallops covered with springy vermicelli , aromatic garlic and fried pickled radish with a splash of light sauce. This dish is savoury sweet and beautiful with being intact to the shell.

Crispy Cereal Prawns were coated with butter that has been specially infused with chilli padi and fragrant kariff leaves topped with crunchy and flavourful toasted cereal. The fresh crunchy prawns were fried well to the point where it didn’t need de-shelling and eat it whole (without the head unless you prefer).

Big meaty mud crab, beautifully placed like a sculpture in a pool of bright red eggy chilli tomato sauce. Sweet and tangy sauce coated the moist and scrumptious exposed crab parts (not the claws) , and upon breaking open the claws revealed phat crab meat that has preserved its natural juices and freshness. Simply delightful!

The Muthu's Flavors Smile Jul 31, 2013

Hanging out at Dempsey Road, sometimes a little sick of eating all the usual Chinese/Japanese/Western so decided to try Indian Cuisine this time after hearing the hype about the Fishhead Curry. We ordered Fishhead Curry, Sotong Curry and Tandoori Chicken.

Fishhead alone was massive sized in proportion to the bowl. The curry has a great seafood freshness and not the usual poultry curry taste. The fishmeat is soft and my favourite part is the fish eyes and the cheek which is the gem of tenderness! The fishhead has a lot of soft parts that are high in collagen, and collagen is great for us women who want to firm up our skin.

Next dish was a great visual appeal of squid and onion sliced circles in a curry bowl. The squid meat is well cooked, firm, and not rubbery at all. This curry texture tasted a little different, like there’s additional tomato puree or something to thicken the gravy so there’s variety in each dish.

Flavourful and aromatic tandoori chicken was small and shrivelled due to the prolonged cooking. Barely fills me up, but it’s alright if you’re in for the taste.

I wanted to order more, but by now I was a little sick of eating anything. Especially curry.

Out Of The Pan Into My Belly OK Jul 31, 2013

The last time I was here mainly for the desserts, so this time I was in for the savoury dishes.

We ordered Korean BBQ Pork and Sweet&Sour Fish And Assam Prawn.

Sourish appetizing fermented cabbage with shredded kimchi pork was spicy and had strong taste of Korean flavours jam packed in a well wrapped crepe. However I felt it was a little dry overall and could use an actual kimchi dipping sauce to enhance the taste, but no such option was available.

I seldom see asian infused dishes with western when it comes to savoury crepes. The fish and prawn meat were well hidden like clown fish in sea anemones, I had the impression that the serving was little but when I took a bite, I felt all the freshness of the seafoods, flavours of spicy, sour, sweet and bitterness (from the crepe) simultaneously bursted in my mouth. The okra (lady finger) , pineapple and cucumbers added a nice texture ontop of all. This is a well done crepe.
