Large breads Smile Dec 04, 2014

I have been wanting to buy the breads from Duke Bakery since the longest time and I was really excited to know that there is an outlet at Suntec City. The outlet is quite brightly lit (as compared to the Bedok and Citylink outlet) and when I was there, there are lots of varieties of bread as well as samples. I tried quite a few, and in the end decided to go for this Swiss Chocolate bread. It is a huge dome shaped bread and it is quite heavy carrying it around. I have already ate one quarter of it before remembering to take the photo. The bread has chocolate and walnut bits in it, and although there is no filling inside the bread, it is quite flavourful on its own. I can just eat it plain without having to spread anything on the bread. Even though the bread is more expensive, but given the larger portion and ingredients used, it is worth the money.

Snow fungus with papaya  Smile Dec 04, 2014

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

I was craving for some sweet desserts after lunch and decided upon Hong Kong Sheng Kee dessert. I decided to get the snow fungus with papaya as it a more is nourishing dessert. I ordered a takeaway, and it is stored in its red paper bowl with its name. The dessert is quite yummy and not too sweet which increases its health factor. The white fungus is rather hard though, it would be better if it is softer. There are also some gingko nuts and a small whitish nut which I cant identify. I will probably be back to try out more of the desserts that they offer, especially the mango sago which they are famous for.

yummy japanese food Smile Dec 04, 2014

It is my very first visit to Tampopo and I was awed by the many different offerings that they have on their menu. There is ramen, tonkatsu, sashimi, sushi and I was simply spoilt for choices. I ordered the Black Pig Loin Tonkatsu Set and since there are three of us, we also ordered a salmon sashimi to share. The Black Pig tonkatsu is really good. I would say it is one of the best tonkatsu that I have ever had. The tonkatsu is not too oily and the meat is juicy and tender. Normally for tonkatsu, it will be slightly on the dry side but not the ones at Tampopo. I guess the use of the loin from the black pig really is more tender than the loin from a normal pig.

The salmon sashimi is sliced very thickly and it is served on a bowl of ice to maintain its coldness and freshness. The salmon sashimi, while being thickly cut (as seen from the photo) and fresh, is rather expensive since it is $15 for 6. I would probably skip ordering this next time and save the $15 for desserts. Do try the black pig tonkatsu if you haven’t!

Nice lunch Smile Dec 03, 2014

I saw my colleague ordering from this stall and his food looked very appetising, which made me want to order from this stall as well. There are quite a few different dishes to choose from and I ordered the brinjal, a chili drumstick and stir fried diced tau kwa. The chili drumstick is really delicious. The chili is slightly spicy and sweet and savoury all in one. The chicken drumstick is tender and the meat falls off the bone easily. The brinjal is tasty too, but I felt it is a bit too greasy for my liking. If I were to order again, I will choose another vegetable instead of the brinjal the next time.

one of the better phad thais! Smile Dec 03, 2014

Categories : Thai | Hawker Centre | Zi Char

I was craving for thai food and luckily for me, there is a stall in Tiong Bahru market which sells thai food. The menu is quite extensive and it is all reasonably priced at around $4 to $5. I went for the pad thai. I am already salivating at the sight of it because it looked just like the pad thai that I had in Bangkok platinum mall. The rice noodle used is the thin type and it is slightly chewy and holds together much better. It is very slightly moist and it is very savoury with the shredded green mango/papaya and onions. The taste still could not be compared to those in Bangkok, but it is close to it. I would say it is one of the more authentic thai hawker stalls around. The phad thai comes with minced meat which is quite surprising to me as I have never seen phad thai with meat before. I will definitely order from this stall the next time I am craving for thai food.
